Module 1 Lesson 1 (Teaching Science)

The document discusses the key components of the K-12 Science curriculum framework in the Philippines. It outlines the goals of developing students' scientific literacy and membership in society. The curriculum is designed around three domains of learning: understanding science, performing scientific inquiry skills, and demonstrating scientific attitudes and values. It utilizes approaches like multi-disciplinary learning and problem/issue-based learning based on educational theories like constructivism. As a future teacher, the author will apply these approaches and models, focusing on problem/issue-based learning to engage students in critical thinking beyond their current knowledge.

Lesson 1

Activity 1

a. As presented in the science framework illustration, what kind of

society do Science education envisions or dream about?

 Based on the science framework illustration, it aims to develop the learners to be

scientific, technologically and environmentally literate to be able for the learners
to be soon productive member of society.

b. How do the K to 12 Science curriculum design and organize into

components?

 The K to 12 Science curriculum designed the three domains of learning science

and those are the understanding and applying scientific knowledge, performing
scientific inquiry skills and developing and demonstrating scientific attitudes and
values, these domains are facilitated by using the following approaches,
multi/interdisciplinary approach, science technology-society approach,
contextual learning, problem/issue-based learning, and inquiry-based approach
and the approaches are based on sound educational pedagogy namely,
constructivism, social cognition learning model, learning style theory, and brain-
based learning.

Activity 2

c. As a future teacher, you will be assisting or guiding your learners to

acquire the scientific and technological skills. How are these skills
developed? What are approaches, Models and Practices Used in the
Science framework? Enumerate and discuss.

 As a future teacher, I will apply the approaches, models and practices that I
learned in Science framework. First I want all my learners to define what is
science, scientific knowledge, and scientific attitudes. In teaching I want to apply
multi/interdisciplinary approach which I will use two or more subject areas like
science and mathematics, or science, history and mathematics, specially, when I
teach Science Technology and Society subject. While teaching to my students I
won’t allow my learners to get bored on my class I will use Problem/Issue Based
Learning, which I will group them into small or big groups, because I want them
not only to learn but to enjoy while learning and also it helps to build their unity
in class and use/share their prior knowledge to each other, it also help them to

improve their inquiry attitude, not only to memorize what I taught but to inspire
them to seek more knowledge, and I will always motivate them that they may not
learned equally on my class but they surely learn differently. Because
Constructivism is a theory explains how people construct their own
understanding and knowledge through prior experiences, and their culture also
affect their thinking.
