• 10 ton BUCKTON Universal Testing Machine

The manufacturer of this machine is JASHUA BUCTON CO. LTD

LEEDS ENGLAND.

A universal testing machine is a machine which is used to test

tension, compression and bend test.

It is a machine which can perform tension, compression and bend

test.

It is used to for torsion and shear test (direct and punching shear
test).

Its maximum capacity is 10 tons.

Its least count is 0.001tons.

1 ton is divided into 10 divisions each division 0.1 ton, which is further divided into 10 divisions
each division is 0.01 ton and it is further divided into 10 division on venire scale to measure up
to 0.001 tons.

• DENISON Universal Testing Machine

The manufacturer of this machine is SMAL & DENISON SON LTD

LEDDS ENGLAND.

It is used for testing tension, compression and bend test.

It has electric hydraulic system for the application of load.

The upper part is fixed whereas the lower part of the machine can
move.

Its least count is 0.005 tons.

It has four different scales.

 5 tons least count =0005 tons

 10 tons least count = 0.01 tons
 25 tons least count = 0.025 tons
 50 tons least count =0.05 tons

• SHIMARDZU Testing Machine

It is made in Japan.

It is the latest machine for testing tension and compression.

The upper and lower parts of the machine can be moved.

This machine can be connected to the computer to get stress strain

curve digitally.

The machine switches the scale automatically from one scale to

another according to the load.

Its maximum capacity is 500 kN.

It has six scales

 10 kN L.C = 0.01 per div

 25 kN L.C = 0.025 per div
 50 kN L.C = 0.05 per div
 100 kN L.C = 0.10 per div
 250 kN L.C = 0.25 per div
 500 kN L.C = 0.5 per div

• AVERY Torsion Testing Machine

The manufacturer of the machine is W & T AVERY LTD BIRMINGHAM

ENGLAND.

It has fixed head and twisting head.

It is used to perform torsion tests.

Rotating speeds are:

 0-31/3 degree per min

 0-10 degree per min
 0-30degree per min
 0-90 degree per min

It has four different scales:

 0-1500 pound inch

Page 3

 0-3000pound inch
 0-7500 pound inch
 0-15000 pound inch

• CHARPY impact testing machine

The manufacturer of the machine is CHARPY LTD ENGLAND.

Impact load

Sudden application of significant magnitude of load for a very short

interval of time is known as impact load

It can perform impact test under two conditions:

 Tension
 Bending

In this machine fork moves and then hit the specimen for a short interval of time and then it
gives the value of impact load.

It is operated manually.

Its capacity is 0-170o.

• 100 ton BUCKTON Universal Testing Machine

The manufacturer of the machine is BUCKTON MANUFACTURERS.

The upper part of the machine is fixed and lower part is moved for test.

The machine is both electrically and hydraulically to apply load.

Its maximum capacity is 200,000tons or two hundred thousand pounds.

It has two scales 20,000 lbs and 200,000 lbs.

• Rock Well Hardness Testing Machine

The manufacturer of the machine is W & T AVERY LTD BIRMINGHAM

ENGLAND.

Hardness

Resistance to plastic deformation or penetration is known as hardness.

It has two scales:

 B- Scale for low carbon steel

 C- Scale for high carbon steel

Mostly two types of penetrators are used:

 Steel ball 1/16 in DIA for low carbon steel

 Diamond cone for high carbon steel

• SHIMARDZU Fatigue Testing Machine

This machine is used for finding the fatigue test in any material.

Fatigue

Repeated loading which causes reversal of stresses in the material (i.e. in one condition tension
and another condition compression) is known as fatigue.

Page 5

• BRINELL Hardness Testing Machine

This machine is also used to measure the hardness of the material.

• Models of different structures

Models of different structures include plate girders and beck bridges.

• Truss models

It also includes fink roof truss, bridge truss and joints of trusses.

• GUAGE Mark Tools

This apparatus is used to mark at 8’’ on the specimen on which test are applied to find yield
strength, ultimate strength and elongation.

Comments

In this job, we study the purpose of different machines, study their scales and least count of
different machines.
