the element node incidence matrix. Hence draw the corresponding oriented graph of the
system.

b) Explain TYPE-1 and TYPE-2 modifications during ZBUS building algorithm by step-by-step
building algorithm. 8
c) What are different types of buses considered for load flow analysis? List the specified and
unspecified variables at these buses. 6
b) Explain about Newton-Raphson method of load flow analysis in polar form for a system
consisting of P-Q buses only. 8
c) What are the assumption and approximations made in NR technique so that it is called FDLF
method. 4
5 a) Explain the equal incremental cost criterion with reference to economic operation of power
system with transmission losses considered. 10
b) The incremental fuel costs in Rs./MWh for a plant consisting of two units are
IC1 = 0.008P1 + 8
IC2 = 0.0096P2 + 6.4
Determine the economic operation schedule and corresponding cost of generation if the
maximum and minimum loading on each unit is 625MW and 100MW. The demand is
900MW and the transmission loss is negligible. Estimate cost saving as compare to equal
sharing of load by units. 10
6 a) With the help of flow chart, explain the modified Euler method for transient stability studies. 10
b) Derive the swing equation of a synchronous machine from fundamentals. 5
c) Explain Runge-Kutta method (4th order approximation) for solution of swing equation. 5
