1 Introduction
1.1 General
From the 1st of September 2008 Elster GmbH in Dortmund (former Elster-Instromet Systems)
will supply to all markets (including resellers and station builders) upgraded standard versions of
the next listed Model 2000 Flow Computer products:
The upgrade consist of hard- and software modifications as declared in paragraph 1.3 initiated
by product standardization & new market requirements.
Be aware that some former hardware parts will become obsolete for delivery in new products
but will remain available as spare parts for existing products (see Paragraph 3). Sometimes
newer or the latest hardware can be used instead but a firmware upgrade may be required to
support all functionalities.
In Paragraph 2 all individual hard- and software upgrades are listed in great detail
Additional user or technical information can be found in the Instrument Instruction Manual and
Technical Manual as listed in Paragraph 4.
All models will be supplied with new (standard) Windows configuration software:
Windows 1.5.1.2 Latest standard Windows configuration software for Model 2000 Flow
Computer
Remarks:
Only MPU’s model FC2000-SP2024 with a serial number (S/N) 117101-200 or higher can
possibly be upgraded from 8M to 16M Flash Memory at reasonable cost when returned to our
production facility in Dortmund. Please contact Elster GmbH in Dortmund to request a
quotations if this applies.
Older MPU’s (so with S/N lower than 117101-0200) or MPU’s model FC2000-SP2034 can not
be upgraded!
The Input 2 Module uses a micro-controller while the former Input Module used Programmable
Interface Controllers (PIC’s) to control the internal functions of the I/O Module. Therefore the
new Input 2 Module does not require any PIC firmware to be loaded before initial operation.
The next table declares the available link settings for the Input 2 Module and a typical
connection diagram for the 4-wire PRT signal. Remark: The Prover Output and the 4-wire PRT
input can not be used simultaneously (see Link No. 16) since they share a common terminal
connection pin (A13) at the input socket of the Input 2 Module. All I/O terminal pin connections
for the Input 2 Module can be found in the Instrument Instruction Manual.
The Power Supply Unit (PSU) (FC2000-SP2038) module is revised to allow the use of multiple
brands DC-DC converters (Ericsson, Traco or P-Duke). All versions have equal specifications
and are 100% compatible and exchangeable in all Model 2000 products. For that reason the
part number (FC2000-SP2038) of the PSU has not been altered.
The Encal 3000 gas chromatograph has a fully configurable ModBus table. This allows
users the option of adding and removing components as they wish. For this reason the
order that the components appear within the Encal 3000 must be entered into the Model
2000 using the "Encal Component Codes" tab. Component 1 corresponds to the address
7#00 within the Encal 3000, where # is 0 for Stream 1, # is 2 for Stream 2, # is 3 for
Stream 3, etcetera.
A standard setup file for the ENCAL 3000 is available at Elster-Instromet B.V. in Silvolde
which will automatically match the components codes used in the ENCAL 3000 to the
(default) component codes in the Model 2000.
GC alarming is free programmable in both products ENCAL 3000 and the Model 2000
Flow Computer.
In the ENCAL3000 the ModBus register 7024, 7224, 7324, 7424 and 7524 contain 32
bits of GC stream alarm data (see table next page). ModBus register 7624 is always
used for calibration status information.
In the Model 2000 the user can select for each alarm bit (when ticked) an accountable or
non-accountable alarm to be activated when set. When an Alarm box (Bit x) is not ticked
the alarm is disabled and will not be flagged. Remark: For the time being only the alarm
Bit 1 will be functional as general GC alarm, this has to do with an upcoming ENCAL
3000 software change to allow all bits to be activated individually. If this functionality is
available we will inform you!
Remark: The status register for this specific GC has been corrected to accept status
1000 as OK or no alarm.
See technical note “TN11415” for typical Ex-i Encoder connections & signals. The Model
2000 can be configured to receive a serial input signal from the former Instromet SMART
Index or from an Elster-Instromet Encoder for Turbine meters. The input uses one of the
serial communication ports configured for that purpose using the NAMUR serial
communication protocol. The Model 2000 will only display the information as received, it
does not use the information in any flow calculations or comparisons. However the
information is available for the data loggers or ModBus set-up. The Model 2000 will read
and display the following Parameters (Commands a and b) from the attached device:-
For more detailed information related to the set-up and configuration of the Instromet
SMART Index, or the Elster-Instromet Encoder see the operating instruction manuals for
those devices.
- 3-Stream Automated Lubrication Control for Turbine Meters, with delayed alarming
The Model 2000 has a lubrication control module that enables attached turbine meters
to be automatically lubricated. The Automatic Lubrication System requires a number of
electrical controls:
For connections and further information see the Manual of the Automated Lubrication
System (Manual1decemberALS.pdf)
The user can select between a flow rate based or timed lubrication mode. In addition it’s
possible to lubricate only above a programmable flow rate level to ensure the meter is
spinning while lubricated.
Several lubrication parameters can also be displayed and/or logged to help the user
identifying the progress in the lubrication cycle e.g. the user can see when the last
lubrication took place and when the next one will be triggered.
The Model 2000 can verify the velocity of sound measurement made by an ultrasonic
meter against the velocity of sound calculated according to AGA10. This feature can be
enabled by selecting the “Calculate VoS according to AGA10” option on the
Compressibility Equation page. Please be aware that AGA10 requires the AGA8
calculation, this will be run automatically enabling a different calculation method to be
configured for compressibility used in flow calculation. All that’s required is the full gas
composition from a live GC connected. Please configure also the default (keypad)
composition values under the “Gas Data” tab, which will optionally be used in case the
GC is in alarm.
The user can configure VoS alarming in the Ultrasonic Meter page. Both VoS
accountable and VoS non-accountable alarm deviation limits and times can be
programmed. If no deviation limits are programmed VoS alarming is disabled.
When the user requires to display the calculated VoS (and other AGA10 calculated
parameters) they can be configured as display parameters under the item “Display
Pages”. The above screen gives a sample where to find the AGA calculated data in the
three of available display data items (Active Data, Stream 1, Equation, AGA10 etc.)
Remark: Since the calculated VoS is partly derived from the (live) gas composition data
(provided by any connected GC) it should be noticed that a delay in data transfer is likely
to occur, caused by the sample- and analysis time of the connected GC. It is therefore
advised to use sensible alarm deviation limits for VoS alarming.
NTP (Network Time Protocol) time synchronization can be used when the Model 2000 is
connected in a network configuration with a NTP Time Server.
The Model 2000 can be synchronized with up to 3 NTP servers. If more than 1 server is
configured, then the first set of valid data received will be used, although the remaining
servers will still be read. The Model 2000 will not update it’s clock between HH:MM:50
and HH:MM+1:10 as this can cause problems with other events that happen on the
minute.
From Port: This is the Source port that the Model 2000 will use.
Variation From GMT: This is the time-zone that the Model 2000 is in.
Update rate: This is how often the Model 2000 will poll the server
Min & Max Adjust: These are the minimum and maximum amounts the Model 2000
clock will be adjusted by.
Timeout: After the specified period of time the Model 2000 will move on to the next
server if no response is received from the current server.
Use Alarms: Select what level of alarm to raise should an error occur.
Server Update Limit: Maximum amount of time since the last time-server adjustment.
Please notify correct “Gateway” and “Server” IP addresses are required to be configured
(IP Address Tab) to allow the Model 2000 to access the time server in your network.
When connected to a Model 2000 (using Ethernet network communication) you can
enter the Model 2000 IP address in the address bar of your internet browser to use
either the remote front panel features or to verify the NTP data for each time server as
indicated on the next page:
NTP Status information for each time server is provided in the next table:
- Fix for converting hourly mass flow-rate in lbs to daily flow-rate in imperial tons
LV5.911 is an updated version of LV5.910. In LV5.910 there is an error when converting
the hourly mass flow-rate in lbs to a daily flow-rate in imperial tons.
LV5.910 uses (an incorrect) conversion: hourly flow x 24 / 2400.0 = daily flow
LV5.911 uses the correct conversion: hourly flow x 24 / 2240.0 = daily flow
Windows Preferences
It is recommended after installation of the new Windows configuration software to disable the
detections of any new Model 2000 IP addresses to be added to your favourites in your internet
explorer when using the Model 2000 with Ethernet network communication. Dependent on your
Explorer settings these could cause undesired Windows error messages. Select in the Edit -
Preferences menu (under behaviour) the option “Do Nothing”. When the preference is closed all
changes will automatically be saved.
A new Firmware version “Network3200 V5.e” is required for the Network 2 Module to support
new functionalities like Master ModBus over TCP/IP for ENCAL 3000 and NTP time
synchronization.
All new Network 2 Modules will be delivered with this new firmware.
Remark:
Older Network 2 Modules (not the former Network Modules) can be upgraded to the new
firmware using the procedure as defined in document “Programming the Network 2 Module.pdf”,
however this can only be done at Elster GmbH in Dortmund which have been provided with the
required tools and software.
