Summative Assignment- Website

California State Standards:

10.2 Students compare and contrast the Glorious Revolution of England, the
American Revolution, and the French Revolution and their enduring effects
worldwide on the political expectations for self-government and individual liberty.
1. Compare the major ideas of philosophers and their effects on the
democratic revolutions in England, the United States, France, and Latin
America (e.g., John Locke, Charles-Louis Montesquieu, Jean-Jacques
Rousseau, Simón Bolívar, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison).
2. List the principles of the Magna Carta, the English Bill of Rights (1689),
the American Declaration of Independence (1776), the French Declaration
of the Rights of Man and the Citizen (1789), and the U.S. Bill of Rights
(1791).
3. Understand the unique character of the American Revolution, its spread to
other parts of the world, and its continuing significance to other nations.
4. Explain how the ideology of the French Revolution led France to develop
from constitutional monarchy to democratic despotism to the Napoleonic
empire.
5. Discuss how nationalism spread across Europe with Napoleon but was
repressed for a generation under the Congress of Vienna and Concert of
Europe until the Revolutions of 1848.

Directions-
Homepage Screen:
This first screen is all about the revolution your group has chosen. It must include
all the important dates and events of the revolution. This page will include a start
and end date for the revolution as well as what the reasons were for this revolution
to begin and when was the fighting over. What was the outcome of this revolution?
This page must also include pictures of relevant to the revolution. This means you
must include pictures of battles, important figures, maps, etc. Use this page to also
compare the three revolutions briefly. These three revolutions are all similar, but
what makes your groups chosen revolution stand out from the other two? Is this
revolution unique because of what followed it? Are the circumstances unique?
Find something that differentiates your group’s chosen revolution from the others.
Remember you must prove why your revolution is the most significant on
worldwide political expectations for self-government out of the three revolutions
we are discussing this unit, so this comparison between the other two is very
important to include. Make sure your argument stays focused on a global
perspective, so “We are Americans, so the American Revolution is the most
significant” is not a good argument.
Important questions to ask and answer.
What inspired this revolution? What was the outcome of this revolution?
When did the tensions begin? Were there any aftereffects/ Did this
revolution cause any other events to occur? Did this revolution inspire any
other revolutions? Why is this specific revolution important? Who are
important figures in this revolution (if it is one of the philosophers you are
going to mention the third page, briefly explain their role here and go in
more detail on the third page)? Important figures can include revolutionary
leaders/thinkers, monarchs, generals, and any other individuals who played a
role in the revolutionary cause. What happened to these important figures?
Why is this revolution more significant in comparison to the other two
revolutions, in your group’s opinion? If the American Revolution is chosen,
why is it considered unique among the other two revolutions? If the French
Revolution is chosen, how did the revolution lead to democratic despotism
and then to the Napoleonic empire?

Second Page/ Revolutionary Documents Page:

This page will contain all the information on the bills and declarations made during
your group’s revolution, bills created for the new government, and in one case, a
document that came before other bills of a similar nature (Magna Carta). For the
French Revolution, this page will include information on the French Declaration of
the Rights of Man and the Citizen (1789). For the American Revolution, this page
will include information on the American Declaration of Independence (1776) and
the US Bill of Rights (1791). For the Glorious Revolution, this page will discuss
the English Bill of Rights (1689) and the Magna Carta (1215). Once again, all
these documents are similar due to inspiration and ideas, but what makes your
group’s documents unique compared to the others is an important question to keep
in mind.
Important questions to ask and answer.
What does this bill or declaration do for the citizens of their nation? What
are the guaranteed rights listed in this document? When was this created and
why? Why are these principles important to the people who wrote them?
Why is this/these document(s) important on a worldwide scale? How does
this document change the form of government prior to the revolution? Who
are important contributors to this/these document(s)?

Third Page/ Philosopher Page:

The third page will be discussing philosophers that had contributions to the ideas
found within the documents of your group’s chosen revolution. The third page may
include the Popplets you created in the Graphic Organizer assignment, if your
group can relate it to this assignment. All students that created that Popplet may
use it in their assignment. Remember for the Glorious Revolution, your group will
discuss John Locke. For the American Revolution discuss Jefferson and Madison.
For the French Revolution, discuss Montesquieu and Rousseau. Your group’s
revolution may be inspired by all these philosophers, but it is a minimum
requirement to speak about these certain philosophers when discussing that
revolution. This section must also include at least one picture of each philosopher
discussed.
Important questions to ask and answer:
What did this philosopher contribute to the revolutions? What were some of
his ideas? Did this philosopher directly contribute to the creation of the
revolution’s document(s) or were his ideas just used as inspiration for this/
these document(s)? What are his some of this philosopher’s writings? Why
are his ideas important? Where can you find this philosopher’s ideas being
used? Did this philosopher possibly influence any other ideas?
Fourth Page/ Citation Page:
The fourth page will be used to cite ALL your sources. Use MLA style and provide
a clickable link to each source. This is all you need to do to get full credit for this
section.
