Visa is a multinational financial services company that facilitates electronic

payment systems throughout the world. It operates the retail electronic payments
network through the transfer of value and information among financial institutions,
merchants, consumers, businesses, and government entities. It also provides electronic
payment, risk management, and payment security solutions to online merchants, digital
goods transactions services in online games, digital media, and social networks, as well
as mobile financial services for mobile network operators and financial institutions in
developing economies.
Moreover, there are not a lot of financial services company in the Philippines
which makes the industry an Oligopoly. An oligopoly is an industry which is dominated by
a few firms. In this market, barriers to entry is high and a few examples of these barriers are
brand loyalty, patents and a very costly starting capital. Also, in this industry, pricing of the
product/service shall also undergo in delicate planning since an oligopolistic firm cannot
raise prices in fear that customers will flee to its competitors.
If am were a manager in the VISA Company, and as someone who wants VISA
to be the number 1 leading multinational financial services company in the country,
provided that we have competitors in the industry such as Mastercard, PayPal and etc
so I would like to recommend to conduct research and development to acquire
innovations and that would vanquish its main competitors.
 Acquire Innovations
o VISA should be more open with other innovations and strategies as
it only operates an open-loop network. Visa does not make money
from the merchant discount fees or cardholder membership fees.
Merchant discount fees are split unevenly between the issuers and
acquirers depending upon the interchange rate. VISA earns
revenue only on the payment volume and the transaction volume
carried out through their cards.
 Diversify
o VISA should continue to build not only internationally but a global
processing infrastructure consisting of multiple synchronized
processing centers. These centers should be interlinked and
engineered for redundancy. Managing these payment networks and
diversifying it into other places in the world is a core part of VISA
operations to ensure a safe, efficient, and consistent service to the
banks, cardholders, and merchants globally.
