The radio script discusses the climate crisis and issues facing the planet. It notes that the world's population and carbon emissions have increased, causing rising temperatures, melting ice caps, and rising sea levels. Small actions like recycling and using renewable energy can help address the problem. If no actions are taken, the planet could warm 4 degrees by 2100, causing mass extinctions of plants and animals unable to adapt. The host urges listeners to do their part to protect the planet and prevent future disasters.

Introduction
Me (EMILY BUTLER)
Hello and welcome, my name is Emily Butler and in today’s
episode I am going to be speaking about the Climate Crisis and the issues our planet is facing every day.
PLAY A SOUND FOR TRANSITION
Over time the world’s population has increased massively,
1000’s of trees have been chopped down and the sea has been absorbing more and more of the worlds greenhouses gases given off by things we humans use in our daily lives , like heating and electricity, ice caps are melting and sea levels are rising. The world is 1 degree hotter and this is partly down to us. If we can keep temperatures no higher than 1.5 degrees it will have a big impact on our plant and even ourselves.
So what can we do to help? There are small things that we can
do in our everyday lives to play our part and help out our planet. For example, recycling, it doesn’t take much to check your packaging and recycle where possible and re use bags when you go to the supermarket rather than buying plastic bags. Looking at the bigger picture renewable sources are desperately needed and more and more trees need to be planted to soak up carbon dioxide meaning deforestation must be banned so this can take place and also it will prevent animals homes being destroyed so that they have somewhere to live.
Research shows that by 2100 our planet is going to get an
astounding 4 degrees hotter, this is because of the fossil fuels and co2 we humans burn and release on the planet and by this time there will be no going back and no way to change and improve things. Also, plant and animal extinctions are expected as habitats are changing faster than species are even able to adapt. This is why we need to act now and work to make improvements to our precious planet to prevent a 6th mass extinction as scientists say that things are happening

extremely quickly and urgent action is needed to avoid
disaster in the future.
We have become so used to buying things like household items
such as dishwashers and washing machines that are produced using of fossil fuels. We need to buy alternatives that don’t produce greenhouse gases. Solar power could be the new way to things, it is cheap and used in so many countries over the world. Even vehicles, have an big effect on the world, electric cars need to become the new way of travel if not walking or public transport like buses that run on bio - gas , they produce much less CO2 and are a much greener way for us to travel. We need to be less wasteful and buy things that will last longer, even if it’s more expensive its so much more efficient, reduce how much food we waste as planet and cut down on meat like beef as cows produce methane. These things will help make a difference.
At the beginning of 2020 Australia was hit with devastating
bush fires, nothing like they had ever experienced before. This is because of the increase in global temperatures and if this carries on and temperatures keep on rising over the years disasters like these bush fires will be 4 times more likely to happen , destroying homes and even some lives of both people and many animals in fact it was reported that at least a billion animals died in the fires. These dreadful fires last weeks, the environment was destroyed with trees and plants being lost making it much more likely for flooding and landslides to occur. The earth will then wash away, causing soil erosion. This is why something needs to be done and many residents and climate activists are questioning the government over the use of greener forms of energy like wind and solar power to help reduce the carbon emissions. Climate change is happening in our world and is increasing chances of things happening like these fires by 30%.
Back in 2011 another disaster occurred , the East Africa
Drought took place. It was reported to be the worst drought in 60 years. 10 million individuals were put in danger left with a food and water shortage. It was a major crisis and sadly this is all due to climate change , lives of both people and animals were lost and this is because of how we are acting and our ways of life on this planet.
Our planet can’t go on like this, we need to do everything we
can to prevent awful events like the 2 I just spoke about happening as it’s a worry for everyone’s future and the planet itself. Everyone has the ability and power to help in some way and its important to do your bit to protect our planet and prevent the predictions of the future taking place.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to this week’s
episode , I look forward to speaking to some people about their views on this crisis and what they are doing to help prevent it at the same time next week. Remember start now, its never to late to do your part and make some small changes in your daily lifestyle.
