Soap Formula 1: Oil Ratios

1. The document provides a soap formula using a 40% coconut oil, 30% palm oil, 15% sunflower oil, and 15% soybean oil ratio for a total of 1000g of oils. 2. It then calculates the amount of NaOH lye needed to saponify the oils, determining 148g of NaOH is required. 3. The lye is made by dissolving 148g of NaOH in 148-222g of water, then cooled and mixed with the oils. The mixture is poured into molds and allowed to harden for 4-6 weeks before use.

Soap Formula 1

Oil Ratios:
Coconut Oil (40 %) + Palm Oil (30 %) + Sunflower Oil (15 %) + Soybean Oil (15 %)
Total oil weight we are going to take = 1000gm
Total NaOH weight for saponify 1000 gm of oil = Want to be calculate

Lye Calculation Table

Oils Percentage Weight NaOH SAP NaOH weight
Coefficient To Saponify Each Oil
Coconut Oil 40 % 400 gm 0.183 73.20 gm
Palm Oil 30 % 300 gm 0.142 42.60 gm
Sunflower Oil 15 % 150 gm 0.135 20.25 gm
Soybean Oil 15 % 150 gm 0.136 20.40 gm
Total weight of oil = 1000 gm Total Weight of NaOH = 156.45 gm
With 5% super fat final NaOH needed to saponify 1000 gm of oils( For taken ratio) =
148.63 gm
0r 148 gm

Calculation Procedure:
1. We are going to use 1000 gm 0f Oil with desired ratio.
2. So each ratio of oil should multiply with 1000gm.
For example 40 % of coconut oil in 1000 gm oil = 40/100 X 1000
0.4 x 1000 = 400 gm
Do the same for remaining oils too.
3. NaOH SAP Coefficient taken from Standard SAP Chart.
4. For weight of NaOH needs to saponify each fraction of oil, we need to multiply weight of
each fraction of oil with NaOH SAP coefficient of respective oil.
For example: 40 % of coconut oil = 400 gm
SAP for coconut oil = 0.183
400 x 0.183 = 73.20 gm
Do the same for remaining oils too.
5. Finally we get 156.45 gm of NaOH to Saponify 1000 gm oil with desired ratios.
6. This is 100 % value of NaOH.
7. But we should take 95 % of NaOH only for use to avoid dryness of skin while using the
soap.
8. So 95 % of NaoH of 156.45 gm = 95/100 x 156.45 = 148.63 gm or 148 gm
Now we calculated amount of NaOH required
For Lye Preparation
 Generally Water to NaOH ratio is 1:1 to 3:1
 For Example 148 gm of NaOH needs 148 to 444 gm of water
 For our Formula we need water 148 to 222 gm
 If all NaOH dissolved in 148 gm of water it is enough or otherwise add little by little to
get dissolved. But not more than 222 gm of water.
 Once all NaOH dissolved our lye is ready now. Cool down it completely to room
temperature.
 Then mix with mixer of oils in blender to get the desired consistency.
 If you want add desired fragrance now.
 Mix well and pour into greased moulds.
 Cover with heavy cloth too maintain the heat.
 Let it cool completely for 24 hrs then check whether harden or not.
 If it is harden left for 4 to 6 weeks. Then Use.
 If it is not in proper form heat again mix for another sometime and repeat the same
procedure like above to get harden soap.

In Shorts
Dissolve 148 gm of NaOH in 148 to 222 gm of water, cool and mix with 400 gm of
coconut oil+ 300 gm of palm oil + 150 gm of sunflower oil + 150 gm of soybean oil.
