ECTS Grade Conversion

ECTS grade conversion

The grade scale will give you an idea of how U.K. percentage marks compare to the
ECTS system. Please be aware that it is your home institution and not SOAS that
converts your grades, so your final converted mark may differ to what is indicated on
the scale.

Undergraduate Grade Table


U.K. Classification U.K. Percentage Grade ECTS Equivalent
Grade

First (I) 70-100% A

Upper Second (IIi) 60-69% B

Lower Second (IIii) 50-59% C

Third (III) 40-49% D

Fail 0-39% E/ F

Postgraduate Students:
The suggested grade conversion in postgraduate (Masters) courses is the same as
above, except that the pass mark is 50%; 0-49% is a fail grade:

Distinction 70-100%
Merit 60-69%
Pass 50-59%
FAIL Below 50%

ECTS Points:
1 Undergraduate unit is worth 15 ECTS points, 1 Postgraduate unit is worth 22.5
ECTS points.
