reported to the project manager and HSE office by phone and later by hand written
preliminary report from concerned supervisor.
5.6 Store Keeper (SK)
1. Responsible for overall Store operations in making sure to store the material delivery
to the site and keep it in suitable area that will keep the material in safe from rusty and
damage.
2. One who will acknowledge the receiving of materials at site in coordination with
QA/QC and concerned Engineer
After the finalization of work, the working area should be cleaned from any scrap materials
related to work performed in a daily basis.
7. Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment
Prior to the commencement of any activities, the work force will receive Tool Box Talk on the project
safety requirements This Tool Box Talk will include both activity issues as well as general safety
requirements
Direct supervisor will ensure that Personal Protection Equipment’s, PPE, are used by site personnel at all
times during this activity.
Training on scaffolding safe erection and usage shall be provided, hence, Safety Engineer/Inspector
should check the scaffold after erection is over and tag it
Personnel who will be working on the top of the scaffolding, if applicable, they should wear safety
harness at all times
No Personnel should be standing or sitting on the scaffolding platform landing while pushing the
scaffolding from one location to another
Staff should be aware of Hazardous waste as explained at safety induction training and any special waste
disposal techniques or PPE then should be outlined by the safety officer
Tools provided to staff must be assessed to fit the purpose given for and the location or the environment
which they are going to be used to
Eye protection is to be provided and used whenever work involve cold chisels, drill machines, grinders or
other tools where there is risk of flying slugs or other
When working at heights, edge protection must be provided prior to start the work and it should not be
moved before consensus approval of the safety department
When working on the top of the roof, fragile materials or installations must be identified such as roof
water membrane before start drilling on any metal member
8. Procedures
8.1 Material Delivery, Handling& Storage
1. Check the reference of delivered materials against approved MSF (size, type, cable, air terminals,
fasteners, etc.)
2. Check the materials against the purchase order,
3. Store lightning materials as per manufacturer instructions
4. Keep packed lightning materials in their original manufacturer packing
5. Check for conformance to purchase order
6. Store in a clean, dry place and protect received material from weather, dirt, water, and
mechanical damage.
8.2 Equipment & Tools
1. Measuring tape
2. Utility knife
3. Screwdriver set
4. Hammer
5. Spanner set
6. Electric drill machine
7. Hacksaw
8. Cable cutter
9. Pliers
8.3 General Instructions
1. Examine areas to receive the task for compliance with requirements of installations
2. All the materials received at site shall be inspected and stored upon receipt as per the
manufacturer’s recommendations
3. Make sure that all relative drawings are available at site for execution
4. All lightning protection systems shall be installed in a neat workmanlike manner
5. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected
8.4 Installation Procedure
1. Verify that the surface of the roof is ready for lightning system installation
2. Obtain shop drawings for all the roof zones, for the concerned building
3. Thoroughly check the route of the conductor and the location of the air terminals of the lightning
system on the roof as per the drawing
4. Mark the location of the air terminal’s base at the cladding joint (The Mullion/Transom profile) as
shown in the shop drawing
5. Before starting drilling make sure that you are away from water proofing membrane or any fragile
GFRC plate
6. Drill for the mounting base of the air terminals on the cladding joint at the marked locations as per
manufacturer recommendation
7. Screw in the air terminal base to the cladding joint with self-tapping screws as per manufacturer
instructions
8. Screw the air terminal to the base and when it is fully screwed in then tighten the air terminal’s
locknut to the base
9. Connect conductor to air terminal base as per the manufacturer instructions
10. Once all the bases are installed, run the course of the race-run on the roof between air terminals
as shown on the shop drawing and avoid sham bending
11. Fasten the conductor to the cladding joint as recommended by manufacturer and observe the
spacing interval as shown in shop drawing
12. Verify by multi meter that there is a continuity between the tip of air terminal, terminal base and
conductor
13. Run the conductor with straight path from the air terminals to the ground connection and try to
avoid sharp edges and narrow loops
14. Use exothermic welding to connect the downlead conductor to the ground grid and in the same
token use exothermic welding to splice conductors to each other
15. Bond extremities of vertical metal bodies exceeding 13m in length to the lightning protection
system by approved connectors
16. Any object being connected to the lightning system must be verified for continuity as mentioned
earlier
8.5 Inspection
1. Ensure that all materials used are approved as per approved material submittal form.
2. Ensure that all the installations and routings are as per shop drawings
3. Ensure that exothermic welding is done properly between cables or between cables and copper
tape
4. Make sure that proper type of graphite mold is used for exothermic welding
5. Ensure that fasteners or bonding are done at proper spacing intervals
6. Use Earth Resistance Meter to conduct earth resistance test and record the value for further
reference
7. Work execution, inspection and testing shall be monitored and witnessed as per SATEP and
recorded in SAIC as applicable. AFET shall issue IR 24hrs in advance of test/inspection to permit
PMC/Supervision Consultant to verify the readiness of test/inspection.
