Captain of the Hosts
Who is He?
Isa 37:16 O LORDH3068 of hosts,H6635 GodH430 of Israel,H3478 that dwellestH3427 between the
cherubims,H3742 thouH859 art the God,H430 even thou alone,H905 of allH3605 the kingdomsH4467 of
the earth:H776 thouH859 hast madeH6213 (H853) heavenH8064 and earth.H776

The term Lord of Hosts is cited 282 times in the Word of God. It is a
military term meaning “God of Battles”

Isa 31:5 As birdsH6833 flying,H5774 soH3651 will the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 defendH1598 H5921
Jerusalem;H3389 defendingH1598 also he will deliverH5337 it; and passing overH6452 he will
preserveH4422 it.

Our God is a Warrior. He is a fighter, and we are in His army. The call to
salvation is a call to enlist in God‟s army and war against the spirits of
darkness and their activity in this world. We must understand His
character to appreciate the Lord of Hosts. The Lord of Battles can tell us
exactly how to stand against the strategies of the enemy He can counsel
us on how to fight and how to win our victories.

Isa 28:29 ThisH2063 alsoH1571 cometh forthH3318 fromH4480 H5973 the LORDH3068 of hosts,H6635 which
is wonderfulH6381 in counsel,H6098 and excellentH1431 in working.H8454

The Lord of Hosts is referred in the New Testament as the Lord of Armies:

Jas 5:4 Behold,G2400 theG3588 hireG3408 of theG3588 labourersG2040 who have reaped downG270
yourG5216 fields,G5561 which is ofG575 youG5216 kept back by fraud,G650 crieth:G2896 andG2532
theG3588 criesG994 of them which have reapedG2325 are enteredG1525 intoG1519 theG3588 earsG3775 of
the LordG2962 of sabaoth.G4519

Rom 9:29 AndG2532 asG2531 EsaiasG2268 said before,G4280 ExceptG1508 the LordG2962 of SabaothG4519
had leftG1459 usG2254 a seed,G4690 we had beenG1096 G302 asG5613 Sodoma,G4670 andG2532 been made
likeG3666 G302 untoG5613 Gomorrah.

If it were not for God‟s holiness in defeating the devil for us through Jesus
Christ at Calvary, we would be eternally lost in sin. He is the Lord of Armies
who wins the battles for us.

The Lord of Hosts keeps His promises

1Sa 1:11 And she vowedH5087 a vow,H5088 and said,H559 O LORDH3068 of hosts,H6635 ifH518 thou wilt
indeed lookH7200 H7200 on the afflictionH6040 of thine handmaid,H519 and rememberH2142 me,
and notH3808 forgetH7911 (H853) thine handmaid,H519 but wilt giveH5414 unto thine handmaidH519 a
manH376 child,H2233 then I will giveH5414 him unto the LORDH3068 allH3605 the daysH3117 of his
life,H2416 and there shall noH3808 razorH4177 comeH5927 uponH5921 his head.H7218

Isa 14:27 ForH3588 the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 hath purposed,H3289 and whoH4310 shall
disannulH6565 it? and his handH3027 is stretched out,H5186 and whoH4310 shall turn it back?H7725

David knew the Lord of Hosts

David trusted in God‟s ability to fight his enemies and win his battles for
him. He became the champion of his nation and a legend in his own time
through the Lord of Hosts.

1Sa 17:45 Then saidH559 DavidH1732 toH413 the Philistine,H6430 ThouH859 comestH935 toH413 me with a
sword,H2719 and with a spear,H2595 and with a shield:H3591 but IH595 comeH935 toH413 thee in the
nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 of hosts,H6635 the GodH430 of the armiesH4634 of Israel,H3478
whomH834 thou hast defied.H2778
1Sa 17:46 ThisH2088 dayH3117 will the LORDH3068 deliverH5462 thee into mine hand;H3027 and I will
smiteH5221 thee, and takeH5493 (H853) thine headH7218 fromH4480 H5921 thee; and I will giveH5414 the
carcasesH6297 of the hostH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430 thisH2088 dayH3117 unto the fowlsH5775 of the
air,H8064 and to the wild beastsH2416 of the earth;H776 that allH3605 the earthH776 may knowH3045
thatH3588 there isH3426 a GodH430 in Israel.H3478
1Sa 17:47 And allH3605 thisH2088 assemblyH6951 shall knowH3045 thatH3588 the LORDH3068 savethH3467
notH3808 with swordH2719 and spear:H2595 forH3588 the battleH4421 is the LORD'S,H3068 and he will
giveH5414 you into our hands.H3027

The Lord of Hosts judges Nations

Jer 11:20 But, O LORDH3068 of hosts,H6635 that judgestH8199 righteously,H6664 that triestH974 the
reinsH3629 and the heart,H3820 let me seeH7200 thy vengeanceH5360 onH4480 them: forH3588
untoH413 thee have I revealedH1540 (H853) my cause.H7379

Isa 2:12 ForH3588 the dayH3117 of the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 shall be uponH5921 everyH3605 one that
is proudH1343 and lofty,H7311 and uponH5921 everyH3605 one that is lifted up;H5375 and he shall be
brought low:H8213

Mal 3:5 And I will come nearH7126 toH413 you to judgment;H4941 and I will beH1961 a swiftH4116
witnessH5707 against the sorcerers,H3784 and against the adulterers,H5003 and against falseH8267
swearers,H7650 and against those that oppressH6231 the hirelingH7916 in his wages,H7939 the
widow,H490 and the fatherless,H3490 and that turn asideH5186 the strangerH1616 from his right,
and fearH3372 notH3808 me, saithH559 the LORDH3068 of hosts.H6635

One day our children will reap the harvest we are now planting; so let‟s be
deliberate in what we plant before the Lord of Hosts.
Jer 50:34 Their RedeemerH1350 is strong;H2389 the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 is his name:H8034 he
shall throughly pleadH7378 H7378 (H853) their cause,H7379 thatH4616 he may give restH7280 (H853) to the
land,H776 and disquietH7264 the inhabitantsH3427 of Babylon.H894

The Lord’s Hosts have a Captain

Not only does the Lord of Hosts have volunteers in His army, He has a
Captain.

Jos 5:13 And it came to pass,H1961 when JoshuaH3091 wasH1961 by Jericho,H3405 that he lifted upH5375
his eyesH5869 and looked,H7200 and, behold,H2009 there stoodH5975 a manH376 over againstH5048
him with his swordH2719 drawnH8025 in his hand:H3027 and JoshuaH3091 wentH1980 unto him,H413
and saidH559 unto him, Art thouH859 for us, orH518 for our adversaries?H6862
Jos 5:14 And he said,H559 Nay;H3808 butH3588 as captainH8269 of the hostH6635 of the LORDH3068 am
IH589 nowH6258 come.H935 And JoshuaH3091 fellH5307 onH413 his faceH6440 to the earth,H776 and did
worship,H7812 and saidH559 unto him, WhatH4100 saithH1696 my lordH113 untoH413 his
servant?H5650
Jos 5:15 And the captainH8269 of the LORD'SH3068 hostH6635 saidH559 untoH413 Joshua,H3091
LooseH5394 thy shoeH5275 from offH4480 H5921 thy foot;H7272 forH3588 the placeH4725 whereonH834
H5921 thouH859 standestH5975 is holy.H6944 And JoshuaH3091 didH6213 so.H3651

Only the Most High is worthy of praise; however, this Mighty One
commanded Joshua to worship Him. The Captain of God‟s hosts is Jesus
Christ.
Isa 44:6 ThusH3541 saithH559 the LORDH3068 the KingH4428 of Israel,H3478 and his redeemerH1350 the
LORDH3068 of hosts;H6635 IH589 am the first,H7223 and IH589 am the last;H314 and besideH4480 H1107
me there is noH369 God.H430

We are in a Spiritual Warfare

Eph 6:11 Put onG1746 theG3588 whole armourG3833 of God,G2316 that yeG5209 may be ableG1410 to
standG2476 againstG4314 theG3588 wilesG3180 of theG3588 devil.G1228
Eph 6:12 ForG3754 weG2254 wrestleG2076 G3823 notG3756 againstG4314 fleshG4561 andG2532 blood,G129
butG235 againstG4314 principalities,G746 againstG4314 powers,G1849 againstG4314 theG3588 rulersG2888
of theG3588 darknessG4655 of thisG5127 world,G165 againstG4314 spiritualG4152 wickednessG4189 inG1722
highG2032 places.

Our warfare is spiritual. It is not against people, but against the powers of
darkness. Some Christians refuse to get into an area of spiritual warfare,
and some have been carried away by the extremes. Many become weary
practicing spiritual warfare. They are fighting the devil and trying to win
a battle that is already won. What they need to do is shout and rejoice in
God. Jesus triumphed over Satan and destroyed his works at Calvary.
Satan‟s only weapon now against mankind is deception.
Col 2:15 And having spoiledG554 principalitiesG746 andG2532 powers,G1849 he made a shewG1165 of
them openly,G1722 G3954 triumphing overG2358 themG846 inG1722 it.G848

When man tries to enter into a personal conflict against Satan , using
human strength, he can never win. But we must exercise spiritual
warfare according to the word of God.

Jas 4:7 SubmitG5293 yourselves thereforeG3767 to God.G2316 ResistG436 theG3588 devil,G1228 andG2532 he
will fleeG5343 fromG575 you.G5216

I believe that in these last days, spiritual warfare will be intensified. More
and more, wickedness and viciousness will come against us. The Body of
Christ is going to bless the world. We are going to stand up with Jesus in
all His strength and win every battle.

Hag 2:6 ForH3588 thusH3541 saithH559 the LORDH3068 of hosts;H6635 YetH5750 once,H259 itH1931 is a little
while,H4592 and IH589 will shakeH7493 (H853) the heavens,H8064 and the earth,H776 and the sea,H3220
and the dryH2724 land;
Hag 2:7 And I will shakeH7493 (H853) allH3605 nations,H1471 and the desireH2532 of allH3605 nationsH1471
shall come:H935 and I will fillH4390 (H853) thisH2088 houseH1004 with glory,H3519 saithH559 the
LORDH3068 of hosts.H6635
Hag 2:8 The silverH3701 is mine, and the goldH2091 is mine, saithH5002 the LORDH3068 of hosts.H6635
Hag 2:9 The gloryH3519 of thisH2088 latterH314 houseH1004 shall beH1961 greaterH1419 thanH4480 of the
former,H7223 saithH559 the LORDH3068 of hosts:H6635 and in thisH2088 placeH4725 will I giveH5414
peace,H7965 saithH5002 the LORDH3068 of hosts.H6635

Biblical Strategies

Jehoshaphat’s Strategy 2Chron. 20:3-20

1. Setting ourselves to seek the Lord

Vs.3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast
throughout all Judah.

2. Proclaiming the greatness of our God

Vs.6-7 “O Lord God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over
all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might , so that
no one is able to withstand You? Are You not our God, who drove out the inhabitants of
this land before Your people Israel, and gave it to the descendants of Abraham, Your
friend forever?”
3. Acknowledge our frailty

Vs.12 “O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great
multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon
You.”

4. The Strategy

Vs.15 “Listen, all of you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you King
Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: “Do not be afraid or dismayed because of the
great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God‟s.vs.17 “You will not need to fight
this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with
you, O Judah and Jerusalem! Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against
them, for the Lord is with you.”

5. Receiving the Strategy

Vs.18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and
the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowed before the Lord, worshipping the Lord.

6. Executing the Strategy

Vs.20 so they rose early in the morning and went into the wilderness of Tekoa; and as
they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of
Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God and you shall be established; believe His
prophets and you shall prosper.” And he consulted with the people, he
appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the
beauty of His holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:
“Praise the Lord, for His mercy endures forever.” Now when they began to
sing and to praise , the Lord set ambushments against the people of
Ammon, Moab, and Mount Sier, who came against Judah; and they were
defeated

Gideon’s Strategy

1. Recognizing the presence of sin

Jdg 6:1 And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORD:H3068
and the LORDH3068 deliveredH5414 them into the handH3027 of MidianH4080 sevenH7651 years.H8141
Jdg 6:2 And the handH3027 of MidianH4080 prevailedH5810 againstH5921 Israel:H3478 and becauseH4480
H6440 of the MidianitesH4080 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 madeH6213 them(H853) the densH4492

whichH834 are in the mountains,H2022 and caves,H4631 and strong holds.H4679

Jdg 6:3 And so it was,H1961 whenH518 IsraelH3478 had sown,H2232 that the MidianitesH4080 came
up,H5927 and the Amalekites,H6003 and the childrenH1121 of the east,H6924 even they came upH5927
againstH5921 them;
Jdg 6:4 And they encampedH2583 againstH5921 them, and destroyedH7843 (H853) the increaseH2981 of
the earth,H776 tillH5704 thou comeH935 unto Gaza,H5804 and leftH7604 noH3808 sustenanceH4241 for
Israel,H3478 neither sheep,H7716 nor ox,H7794 nor ass.H2543
Jdg 6:5 ForH3588 theyH1992 came upH5927 with their cattleH4735 and their tents,H168 and they
cameH935 asH1992 grasshoppersH697 for multitude;H7230 for both theyH1992 and their camelsH1581
were withoutH369 number:H4557 and they enteredH935 into the landH776 to destroyH7843 it.
Jdg 6:6 And IsraelH3478 was greatlyH3966 impoverishedH1809 becauseH4480 H6440 of the
Midianites;H4080 and the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 criedH2199 untoH413 the LORD.H3068

2. Recognizing the need for deliverance

Jdg 6:7 And it came to pass,H1961 whenH3588 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 criedH2199 untoH413 the
LORDH3068 because ofH5921 H182 the Midianites,H4080
Jdg 6:8 That the LORDH3068 sentH7971 a prophetH5030 untoH413 the childrenH1121 of Israel,H3478
which saidH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saithH559 the LORDH3068 GodH430 of Israel,H3478 IH595
brought you upH5927 (H853) from Egypt,H4480 H4714 and brought you forthH3318 (H853) out of the
houseH4480 H1004 of bondage;H5650
Jdg 6:9 And I deliveredH5337 you out of the handH4480 H3027 of the Egyptians,H4714 and out of the
handH4480 H3027 of allH3605 that oppressedH3905 you, and drave them outH1644 (H853) from
beforeH4480 H6440 you, and gaveH5414 you(H853) their land;H776
Jdg 6:10 And I saidH559 unto you, IH589 am the LORDH3068 your God;H430 fearH3372 notH3808 (H853)
the godsH430 of the Amorites,H567 in whoseH834 landH776 yeH859 dwell:H3427 but ye have notH3808
obeyedH8085 my voice.H6963

3. The Lord sends His Word

Jdg 6:11 And there cameH935 an angelH4397 of the LORD,H3068 and satH3427 underH8478 an oakH424
whichH834 was in Ophrah,H6084 thatH834 pertained unto JoashH3101 the Abiezrite:H33 and his
sonH1121 GideonH1439 threshedH2251 wheatH2406 by the winepress,H1660 to hideH5127 it fromH4480
H6440 the Midianites.H4080

Jdg 6:12 And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 appearedH7200 untoH413 him, and saidH559 untoH413
him, The LORDH3068 is withH5973 thee, thou mighty manH1368 of valour.H2428
Jdg 6:13 And GideonH1439 saidH559 untoH413 him, OhH994 my Lord,H113 if the LORDH3068 beH3426
withH5973 us, whyH4100 then is allH3605 thisH2063 befallenH4672 us? and whereH346 be allH3605 his
miraclesH6381 whichH834 our fathersH1 toldH5608 us of, saying,H559 Did notH3808 the LORDH3068
bring us upH5927 from Egypt?H4480 H4714 but nowH6258 the LORDH3068 hath forsakenH5203 us, and
deliveredH5414 us into the handsH3709 of the Midianites.H4080
Jdg 6:14 And the LORDH3068 lookedH6437 uponH413 him, and said,H559 Go inH1980 thisH2088 thy
might,H3581 and thou shalt saveH3467 (H853) IsraelH3478 from the handH4480 H3709 of the
Midianites:H4080 have notH3808 I sentH7971 thee?
Jdg 6:15 And he saidH559 untoH413 him, OhH994 my Lord,H136 wherewithH4100 shall I saveH3467 (H853)
Israel?H3478 behold,H2009 my familyH504 is poorH1800 in Manasseh,H4519 and IH595 am the
leastH6810 in my father'sH1 house.H1004
Jdg 6:16 And the LORDH3068 saidH559 untoH413 him, SurelyH3588 I will beH1961 withH5973 thee, and
thou shalt smiteH5221 (H853) the MidianitesH4080 as oneH259 man.H376
Jdg 6:17 And he saidH559 untoH413 him, IfH518 nowH4994 I have foundH4672 graceH2580 in thy
sight,H5869 then shewH6213 me a signH226 that thouH7945 H859 talkestH1696 withH5973 me.
Jdg 6:18 DepartH4185 notH408 hence,H4480 H2088 I pray thee,H4994 untilH5704 I comeH935 untoH413 thee,
and bring forthH3318 (H853) my present,H4503 and setH5117 it beforeH6440 thee. And he said,H559
IH595 will tarryH3427 untilH5704 thou come again.H7725
Jdg 6:19 And GideonH1439 went in,H935 and made readyH6213 a kid,H1423 H5795 and unleavened
cakesH4682 of an ephahH374 of flour:H7058 the fleshH1320 he putH7760 in a basket,H5536 and he
putH7760 the brothH4839 in a pot,H6517 and brought it outH3318 untoH413 him underH413 H8478 the
oak,H424 and presentedH5066 it.
Jdg 6:20 And the angelH4397 of GodH430 saidH559 untoH413 him, TakeH3947 (H853) the fleshH1320 and
the unleavened cakes,H4682 and layH5117 them uponH413 thisH1975 rock,H5553 and pour outH8210 the
broth.H4839 And he didH6213 so.H3651
Jdg 6:21 Then the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 put forthH7971 (H853) the endH7097 of the staffH4938
thatH834 was in his hand,H3027 and touchedH5060 the fleshH1320 and the unleavened cakes;H4682
and there rose upH5927 fireH784 out ofH4480 the rock,H6697 and consumedH398 (H853) the fleshH1320
and the unleavened cakes.H4682 Then the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 departedH1980 out of his
sight.H4480 H5869
Jdg 6:22 And when GideonH1439 perceivedH7200 thatH3588 heH1931 was an angelH4397 of the
LORD,H3068 GideonH1439 said,H559 Alas,H162 O LordH136 GOD!H3069 forH3588 becauseH5921 H3651 I
have seenH7200 an angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 faceH6440 toH413 face.H6440

4. The Lord prepares the heart

Jdg 6:23 And the LORDH3068 saidH559 unto him, PeaceH7965 be unto thee; fearH3372 not:H408 thou
shalt notH3808 die.H4191
Jdg 6:24 Then GideonH1439 builtH1129 an altarH4196 thereH8033 unto the LORD,H3068 and calledH7121
it Jehovahshalom:H3073 untoH5704 thisH2088 dayH3117 it is yetH5750 in OphrahH6084 of the
Abiezrites.H33
Jdg 6:25 And it came to passH1961 the sameH1931 night,H3915 that the LORDH3068 saidH559 unto him,
TakeH3947 (H853) thy father'sH1 young bullock,H6499 H7794 even the secondH8145 bullockH6499 of
sevenH7651 yearsH8141 old, and throw downH2040 (H853) the altarH4196 of BaalH1168 thatH834 thy
fatherH1 hath, and cut downH3772 the groveH842 thatH834 is byH5921 it:
Jdg 6:26 And buildH1129 an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 uponH5921 the topH7218 of
thisH2088 rock,H4581 in the ordered place,H4634 and takeH3947 (H853) the secondH8145 bullock,H6499
and offerH5927 a burnt sacrificeH5930 with the woodH6086 of the groveH842 whichH834 thou shalt
cut down.H3772

5. Obedience to the call (changes us from the inside out)

Jdg 6:27 Then GideonH1439 tookH3947 tenH6235 menH376 of his servants,H4480 H5650 and didH6213 asH834
the LORDH3068 had saidH1696 untoH413 him: and so it was,H1961 becauseH834 he fearedH3372 (H853)
his father'sH1 household,H1004 and the menH376 of the city,H5892 that he could not doH4480 H6213 it
by day,H3119 that he didH6213 it by night.H3915
Jdg 6:28 And when the menH376 of the cityH5892 arose earlyH7925 in the morning,H1242 behold,H2009
the altarH4196 of BaalH1168 was cast down,H5422 and the groveH842 was cut downH3772 thatH834
was byH5921 it, and the secondH8145 bullockH6499 was offeredH5927 uponH5921 the altarH4196 that
was built.H1129
Jdg 6:29 And they saidH559 oneH376 toH413 another,H7453 WhoH4310 hath doneH6213 thisH2088
thing?H1697 And when they enquiredH1875 and asked,H1245 they said,H559 GideonH1439 the sonH1121
of JoashH3101 hath doneH6213 thisH2088 thing.H1697
Jdg 6:30 Then the menH376 of the cityH5892 saidH559 untoH413 Joash,H3101 Bring outH3318 (H853) thy
son,H1121 that he may die:H4191 becauseH3588 he hath cast downH5422 (H853) the altarH4196 of
Baal,H1168 and becauseH3588 he hath cut downH3772 the groveH842 thatH834 was byH5921 it.
Jdg 6:31 And JoashH3101 saidH559 unto allH3605 thatH834 stoodH5975 againstH5921 him, Will yeH859
pleadH7378 for Baal?H1168 will yeH859 saveH3467 him? he thatH834 will pleadH7378 for him, let him
be put to deathH4191 whilstH5704 it is yet morning:H1242 ifH518 heH1931 be a god,H430 let him
pleadH7378 for himself, becauseH3588 one hath cast downH5422 (H853) his altar.H4196
Jdg 6:32 Therefore on thatH1931 dayH3117 he calledH7121 him Jerubbaal,H3378 saying,H559 Let
BaalH1168 pleadH7378 against him, becauseH3588 he hath thrown downH5422 (H853) his altar.H4196
Jdg 6:33 Then allH3605 the MidianitesH4080 and the AmalekitesH6003 and the childrenH1121 of the
eastH6924 were gatheredH622 together,H3162 and went over,H5674 and pitchedH2583 in the
valleyH6010 of Jezreel.H3157
Jdg 6:34 But the SpiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 came uponH3847 (H853) Gideon,H1439 and he blewH8628
a trumpet;H7782 and AbiezerH44 was gatheredH2199 afterH310 him.
Jdg 6:35 And he sentH7971 messengersH4397 throughout allH3605 Manasseh;H4519 whoH1931 alsoH1571
was gatheredH2199 afterH310 him: and he sentH7971 messengersH4397 unto Asher,H836 and unto
Zebulun,H2074 and unto Naphtali;H5321 and they came upH5927 to meetH7125 them.
Jdg 6:36 And GideonH1439 saidH559 untoH413 God,H430 IfH518 thou(H3426) wilt saveH3467 (H853)
IsraelH3478 by mine hand,H3027 asH834 thou hast said,H1696
Jdg 6:37 Behold,H2009 IH595 will putH3322 (H853) a fleeceH1492 of woolH6785 in the floor;H1637 and ifH518
the dewH2919 beH1961 onH5921 the fleeceH1492 only,H905 and it be dryH2721 uponH5921 allH3605 the
earthH776 beside, then shall I knowH3045 thatH3588 thou wilt saveH3467 (H853) IsraelH3478 by mine
hand,H3027 asH834 thou hast said.H1696
Jdg 6:38 And it wasH1961 so:H3651 for he rose up earlyH7925 on the morrow,H4480 H4283 and thrustH2115
(H853) the fleeceH1492 together,H2115 and wringedH4680 the dewH2919 out ofH4480 the fleece,H1492 a

bowlH5602 fullH4392 of water.H4325

Jdg 6:39 And GideonH1439 saidH559 untoH413 God,H430 Let notH408 thine angerH639 be hotH2734
against me, and I will speakH1696 butH389 this once:H6471 let me prove,H5254 I pray thee,H4994
butH7535 this onceH6471 with the fleece;H1492 let it nowH4994 beH1961 dryH2721 onlyH905 uponH413 the
fleece,H1492 and uponH5921 allH3605 the groundH776 let there beH1961 dew.H2919
Jdg 6:40 And GodH430 didH6213 soH3651 thatH1931 night:H3915 for it wasH1961 dryH2721 uponH413 the
fleeceH1492 only,H905 and there wasH1961 dewH2919 onH5921 allH3605 the ground.H776
Jdg 7:1 Then Jerubbaal,H3378 whoH1931 is Gideon,H1439 and allH3605 the peopleH5971 thatH834 were
withH854 him, rose up early,H7925 and pitchedH2583 besideH5921 the wellH5878 of Harod:H5878 so
that the hostH4264 of the MidianitesH4080 wereH1961 on the north sideH4480 H6828 of them, by the
hillH4480 H1389 of Moreh,H4176 in the valley.H6010

6. The Lord gives the preparation for strategy

Jdg 7:2 And the LORDH3068 saidH559 untoH413 Gideon,H1439 The peopleH5971 thatH834 are withH854
thee are too manyH7227 for me to giveH5414 (H853) the MidianitesH4080 into their hands,H3027
lestH6435 IsraelH3478 vaunt themselvesH6286 againstH5921 me, saying,H559 Mine own handH3027
hath savedH3467 me.
Jdg 7:3 NowH6258 therefore go to,H4994 proclaimH7121 in the earsH241 of the people,H5971 saying,H559
WhosoeverH4310 is fearfulH3373 and afraid,H2730 let him returnH7725 and depart earlyH6852 from
mountH4480 H2022 Gilead.H1568 And there returnedH7725 ofH4480 the peopleH5971 twentyH6242 and
twoH8147 thousand;H505 and there remainedH7604 tenH6235 thousand.H505
Jdg 7:4 And the LORDH3068 saidH559 untoH413 Gideon,H1439 The peopleH5971 are yetH5750 too
many;H7227 bring them downH3381 (H853) untoH413 the water,H4325 and I will tryH6884 them for
thee there:H8033 and it shall be,H1961 that of whomH834 I sayH559 untoH413 thee, ThisH2088 shall
goH1980 withH854 thee, the sameH1931 shall goH1980 withH854 thee; and of whomsoeverH3605 H834 I
sayH559 untoH413 thee, ThisH2088 shall notH3808 goH1980 withH5973 thee, the sameH1931 shall
notH3808 go.H1980
Jdg 7:5 So he brought downH3381 (H853) the peopleH5971 untoH413 the water:H4325 and the LORDH3068
saidH559 untoH413 Gideon,H1439 Every oneH3605 thatH834 lappethH3952 ofH4480 the waterH4325 with
his tongue,H3956 asH834 a dogH3611 lappeth,H3952 him shalt thou setH3322 by himself;H905 likewise
every oneH3605 thatH834 boweth downH3766 uponH5921 his kneesH1290 to drink.H8354
Jdg 7:6 And the numberH4557 of them that lapped,H3952 putting their handH3027 toH413 their
mouth,H6310 wereH1961 threeH7969 hundredH3967 men:H376 but allH3605 the restH3499 of the
peopleH5971 bowed downH3766 uponH5921 their kneesH1290 to drinkH8354 water.H4325
Jdg 7:7 And the LORDH3068 saidH559 untoH413 Gideon,H1439 By the threeH7969 hundredH3967 menH376
that lappedH3952 will I saveH3467 you, and deliverH5414 (H853) the MidianitesH4080 into thine
hand:H3027 and let allH3605 the other peopleH5971 goH1980 every manH376 unto his place.H4725
Jdg 7:8 So the peopleH5971 tookH3947 (H853) victualsH6720 in their hand,H3027 and their trumpets:H7782
and he sentH7971 allH3605 the rest of IsraelH3478 every manH376 unto his tent,H168 and
retainedH2388 those threeH7969 hundredH3967 men:H376 and the hostH4264 of MidianH4080 wasH1961
beneathH4480 H8478 him in the valley.H6010
Jdg 7:9 And it came to passH1961 the sameH1931 night,H3915 that the LORDH3068 saidH559 untoH413
him, Arise,H6965 get thee downH3381 unto the host;H4264 forH3588 I have deliveredH5414 it into
thine hand.H3027
Jdg 7:10 But ifH518 thouH859 fearH3372 to go down,H3381 goH3381 thouH859 with PhurahH6513 thy
servantH5288 downH3381 toH413 the host:H4264
Jdg 7:11 And thou shalt hearH8085 whatH4100 they say;H1696 and afterwardH310 shall thine
handsH3027 be strengthenedH2388 to go downH3381 unto the host.H4264 Then went he downH3381
with PhurahH6513 his servantH5288 untoH413 the outsideH7097 of the armed menH2571 thatH834
were in the host.H4264
Jdg 7:12 And the MidianitesH4080 and the AmalekitesH6003 and allH3605 the childrenH1121 of the
eastH6924 layH5307 along in the valleyH6010 like grasshoppersH697 for multitude;H7230 and their
camelsH1581 were withoutH369 number,H4557 as the sandH2344 byH7945 H5921 the seaH3220 sideH8193
for multitude.H7230
Jdg 7:13 And when GideonH1439 was come,H935 behold,H2009 there was a manH376 that toldH5608 a
dreamH2472 unto his fellow,H7453 and said,H559 Behold,H2009 I dreamedH2492 a dream,H2472 and,
lo,H2009 a cakeH6742 of barleyH8184 breadH3899 tumbledH2015 into the hostH4264 of Midian,H4080
and cameH935 untoH5704 a tent,H168 and smoteH5221 it that it fell,H5307 and overturnedH2015 H4605
it, that the tentH168 lay along.H5307
Jdg 7:14 And his fellowH7453 answeredH6030 and said,H559 ThisH2063 is nothing elseH369 saveH1115 H518
the swordH2719 of GideonH1439 the sonH1121 of Joash,H3101 a manH376 of Israel:H3478 for into his
handH3027 hath GodH430 deliveredH5414 (H853) Midian,H4080 and allH3605 the host.H4264

7. The Lord confirms His Word

Jdg 7:15 And it wasH1961 so, when GideonH1439 heardH8085 (H853) the tellingH4557 of the dream,H2472
and the interpretationH7667 thereof, that he worshipped,H7812 and returnedH7725 intoH413 the
hostH4264 of Israel,H3478 and said,H559 Arise;H6965 forH3588 the LORDH3068 hath deliveredH5414
into your handH3027 (H853) the hostH4264 of Midian.H4080
Jdg 7:16 And he dividedH2673 (H853) the threeH7969 hundredH3967 menH376 into threeH7969
companies,H7218 and he putH5414 a trumpetH7782 in every man'sH3605 hand,H3027 with emptyH7386
pitchers,H3537 and lampsH3940 withinH8432 the pitchers.H3537
Jdg 7:17 And he saidH559 untoH413 them, LookH7200 onH4480 me, and doH6213 likewise:H3651 and,
behold,H2009 when IH595 comeH935 to the outsideH7097 of the camp,H4264 it shall beH1961 that,
asH834 I do,H6213 soH3651 shall ye do.H6213

8. The Lord gives the strategy

Jdg 7:18 When I blowH8628 with a trumpet,H7782 IH595 and allH3605 thatH834 are withH854 me, then
blowH8628 yeH859 the trumpetsH7782 alsoH1571 on every sideH5439 of allH3605 the camp,H4264 and
say,H559 The sword of the LORD,H3068 and of Gideon.H1439
Jdg 7:19 So Gideon,H1439 and the hundredH3967 menH376 thatH834 were withH854 him, cameH935
unto the outsideH7097 of the campH4264 in the beginningH7218 of the middleH8484 watch;H821 and
they had butH389 newly setH6965 H6965 (H853) the watch:H8104 and they blewH8628 the
trumpets,H7782 and brakeH5310 the pitchersH3537 thatH834 were in their hands.H3027
Jdg 7:20 And the threeH7969 companiesH7218 blewH8628 the trumpets,H7782 and brakeH7665 the
pitchers,H3537 and heldH2388 the lampsH3940 in their leftH8040 hands,H3027 and the trumpetsH7782
in their rightH3225 handsH3027 to blowH8628 withal: and they cried,H7121 The swordH2719 of the
LORD,H3068 and of Gideon.H1439
Jdg 7:21 And they stoodH5975 every manH376 in his placeH8478 round aboutH5439 the camp:H4264 and
allH3605 the hostH4264 ran,H7323 and cried,H7321 and fled.H5127
Jdg 7:22 And the threeH7969 hundredH3967 blewH8628 the trumpets,H7782 and the LORDH3068
setH7760 (H853) every man'sH376 swordH2719 against his fellow,H7453 even throughout allH3605 the
host:H4264 and the hostH4264 fledH5127 toH5704 BethshittahH1029 in Zererath,H6888 and toH5704 the
borderH8193 of Abelmeholah,H65 untoH5921 Tabbath.H2888

The Strategy of Joshua

1. Sanctify yourselves
Jos 3:5 And JoshuaH3091 saidH559 untoH413 the people,H5971 Sanctify yourselves:H6942 forH3588 to
morrowH4279 the LORDH3068 will doH6213 wondersH6381 amongH7130 you.

2. Take up the Word of God

Jos 3:6 And JoshuaH3091 spakeH559 untoH413 the priests,H3548 saying,H559 Take upH5375 (H853) the
arkH727 of the covenant,H1285 and pass overH5674 beforeH6440 the people.H5971 And they took
upH5375 (H853) the arkH727 of the covenant,H1285 and wentH1980 beforeH6440 the people.H5971
Jos 3:7 And the LORDH3068 saidH559 untoH413 Joshua,H3091 ThisH2088 dayH3117 will I beginH2490 to
magnifyH1431 thee in the sightH5869 of allH3605 Israel,H3478 thatH834 they may knowH3045 that,H3588
asH834 I wasH1961 withH5973 Moses,H4872 so I will beH1961 withH5973 thee.
Jos 3:8 And thouH859 shalt commandH6680 (H853) the priestsH3548 that bearH5375 the arkH727 of the
covenant,H1285 saying,H559 When ye are comeH935 toH5704 the brinkH7097 of the waterH4325 of
Jordan,H3383 ye shall stand stillH5975 in Jordan.H3383

3. Recognizing the Power of God

Jos 3:9 And JoshuaH3091 saidH559 untoH413 the childrenH1121 of Israel,H3478 ComeH5066 hither,H2008
and hearH8085 (H853) the wordsH1697 of the LORDH3068 your God.H430
Jos 3:10 And JoshuaH3091 said,H559 HerebyH2063 ye shall knowH3045 thatH3588 the livingH2416
GodH410 is amongH7130 you, and that he will without fail drive outH3423 H3423 from beforeH4480
H6440 you(H853) the Canaanites,H3669 and the Hittites,H2850 and the Hivites,H2340 and the

Perizzites,H6522 and the Girgashites,H1622 and the Amorites,H567 and the Jebusites.H2983
3. The memorial of the Lord (a place of worship)

Jos 4:1 And it came to pass,H1961 whenH834 allH3605 the peopleH1471 were cleanH8552 passed
overH5674 (H853) Jordan,H3383 that the LORDH3068 spakeH559 untoH413 Joshua,H3091 saying,H559
Jos 4:2 TakeH3947 you twelveH8147 H6240 menH376 out ofH4480 the people,H5971 out of every tribe a
man,H376 H259 H376 H259 H4480 H7626
Jos 4:3 And commandH6680 ye them, saying,H559 TakeH5375 you henceH4480 H2088 out of the
midstH4480 H8432 of Jordan,H3383 out of the placeH4480 H4673 where the priests'H3548 feetH7272 stood
firm,H3559 twelveH8147 H6240 stones,H68 and ye shall carry them overH5674 (H853) withH5973 you, and
leaveH5117 them in the lodging place,H4411 whereH834 ye shall lodgeH3885 this night.H3915
Jos 4:4 Then JoshuaH3091 calledH7121 H413 the twelveH8147 H6240 men,H376 whomH834 he had
preparedH3559 of the childrenH4480 H1121 of Israel,H3478 out of every tribe a man:H376 H259 H376 H259
H4480 H7626

Jos 4:5 And JoshuaH3091 saidH559 unto them, Pass overH5674 beforeH6440 the arkH727 of the
LORDH3068 your GodH430 intoH413 the midstH8432 of Jordan,H3383 and take ye upH7311 every
manH376 of you aH259 stoneH68 uponH5921 his shoulder,H7926 according unto the numberH4557 of
the tribesH7626 of the childrenH1121 of Israel:H3478
Jos 4:6 ThatH4616 thisH2063 may beH1961 a signH226 amongH7130 you, that whenH3588 your
childrenH1121 askH7592 their fathers in time to come,H4279 saying,H559 WhatH4100 mean ye by
theseH428 stones?H68
Jos 4:7 Then ye shall answerH559 them, ThatH834 the watersH4325 of JordanH3383 were cut offH3772
beforeH4480 H6440 the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of the LORD;H3068 when it passed overH5674
Jordan,H3383 the watersH4325 of JordanH3383 were cut off:H3772 and theseH428 stonesH68 shall
beH1961 for a memorialH2146 unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 for ever.H5704 H5769

5. Obedience

Jos 4:8 And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 didH6213 soH3651 asH834 JoshuaH3091 commanded,H6680
and took upH5375 twelveH8147 H6240 stonesH68 out of the midstH4480 H8432 of Jordan,H3383 asH834
the LORDH3068 spakeH1696 untoH413 Joshua,H3091 according to the numberH4557 of the tribesH7626
of the childrenH1121 of Israel,H3478 and carried them overH5674 withH5973 them untoH413 the place
where they lodged,H4411 and laid them downH5117 there.H8033
Jos 5:7 And their children,H1121 whom he raised upH6965 in their stead,H8478 them JoshuaH3091
circumcised:H4135 forH3588 they wereH1961 uncircumcised,H6189 becauseH3588 they had notH3808
circumcisedH4135 them by the way.H1870
Jos 5:8 And it came to pass,H1961 whenH834 they had doneH8552 circumcisingH4135 allH3605 the
people,H1471 that they abodeH3427 in their placesH8478 in the camp,H4264 tillH5704 they were
whole.H2421
Jos 5:9 And the LORDH3068 saidH559 untoH413 Joshua,H3091 This dayH3117 have I rolled awayH1556
(H853) the reproachH2781 of EgyptH4714 from offH4480 H5921 you. Wherefore the nameH8034 of the

placeH4725 is calledH7121 GilgalH1537 untoH5704 thisH2088 day.H3117

Jos 5:10 And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 encampedH2583 in Gilgal,H1537 and keptH6213 (H853) the
passoverH6453 on the fourteenthH702 H6240 dayH3117 of the monthH2320 at evenH6153 in the
plainsH6160 of Jericho.H3405
Jos 5:11 And they did eatH398 of the old cornH4480 H5669 of the landH776 on the morrow afterH4480
H4283 the passover,H6453 unleavened cakes,H4682 and parchedH7033 corn in the selfsameH6106

6. Receiving the Strategy of the Lord (worship in the warfare)

Jos 6:1 Now JerichoH3405 was straitly shut upH5462 H5462 becauseH4480 H6440 of the childrenH1121 of
Israel:H3478 noneH369 went out,H3318 and noneH369 came in.H935
Jos 6:2 And the LORDH3068 saidH559 untoH413 Joshua,H3091 See,H7200 I have givenH5414 into thine
handH3027 (H853) Jericho,H3405 and the kingH4428 thereof, and the mightyH1368 men of
valour.H2428
Jos 6:3 And ye shall compassH5437 (H853) the city,H5892 allH3605 ye menH376 of war,H4421 and go round
aboutH5362 (H853) the cityH5892 once.H259 H6471 ThusH3541 shalt thou doH6213 sixH8337 days.H3117
Jos 6:4 And sevenH7651 priestsH3548 shall bearH5375 beforeH6440 the arkH727 sevenH7651 trumpetsH7782
of rams' horns:H3104 and the seventhH7637 dayH3117 ye shall compassH5437 (H853) the cityH5892
sevenH7651 times,H6471 and the priestsH3548 shall blowH8628 with the trumpets.H7782
Jos 6:5 And it shall come to pass,H1961 that when they make a longH4900 blastH4900 with the
ram'sH3104 horn,H7161 and when ye hearH8085 (H853) the soundH6963 of the trumpet,H7782 allH3605
the peopleH5971 shall shoutH7321 with a greatH1419 shout;H8643 and the wallH2346 of the cityH5892
shall fall downH5307 flat,H8478 and the peopleH5971 shall ascend upH5927 every manH376 straight
beforeH5048 him.

Spiritual Mapping for effective Spiritual warfare

1. What is Spiritual Mapping and how does it make for effective

Spiritual Warfare?

Spiritual mapping is the process of collating and putting spiritual

information concerning a region or people on a map. The accumulated data
is used in spiritual warfare to seize that region or people group from the
enemy. Spiritual mapping is like having a bright light focused on a
otherwise dimly lit area. It allows us to see how the enemy is strategizing
and exposes Satan‟s hidden agenda for that particular region or people
group.
Mar 4:22 ForG1063 there isG2076 nothingG3756 G5100 hid,G2927 whichG3739 shall not(G3362) be
manifested;G5319 neitherG3761 wasG1096 any thing kept secret,G614 butG235 thatG2443 it should
comeG2064 abroad.G1519 G5318

In spiritual mapping we are looking for things that are right in front of us,
yet hidden. Spiritual mapping may only be accomplished by the Spirit of
the Lord., and not by power or might. We need to understand that spiritual
mapping is not spiritual warfare. It is precursory tactic to warfare. We can
gather data , ascertain information, and pin it on a map all you want.
However, that and in itself , will not disperse the darkness. As we submit
ourselves unto the Lord, allowing Him to wield us as His weapon, we wage
war against the enemy.

Jer 51:20 ThouH859 art my battle axeH4661 and weaponsH3627 of war:H4421 for with thee will I break
in piecesH5310 the nations,H1471 and with thee will I destroyH7843 kingdoms;H4467

A study of history of the land and its peoples is crucial in spiritual mapping.
We must be able to understand the mind set, habits, and customs of the
“original” people. It is important to concentrate your study on finding out
the unrighteous practices and beiliefs of the people. Generally you will be
dealing with whatever strongholds the original residents opened the door to
through their sin.

We will talk about the specific 4 sins which defile the land a little later.

We should look for God‟s redemptive purposes and gifts for the area. The
goal of spiritual mapping and spiritual warfare is always the saving of souls.
Jesus, in giving the Great Commission, did not say to go into all the world
and spiritually map. This mapping is a tool we use to accomplish His desire.
Mat 28:18 AndG2532 JesusG2424 cameG4334 and spakeG2980 unto them,G846 saying,G3004 AllG3956
powerG1849 is givenG1325 unto meG3427 inG1722 heavenG3772 andG2532 inG1909 earth.G1093
Mat 28:19 GoG4198 ye therefore,G3767 and teachG3100 allG3956 nations,G1484 baptizingG907 themG846
inG1519 theG3588 nameG3686 of theG3588 Father,G3962 andG2532 of theG3588 Son,G5207 andG2532 of
theG3588 HolyG40 Ghost:G4151
Mat 28:20 TeachingG1321 themG846 to observeG5083 all thingsG3956 whatsoeverG3745 I have
commandedG1781 you:G5213 and,G2532 lo,G2400 IG1473 amG1510 withG3326 youG5216 alway,G3956 G2250
even untoG2193 theG3588 endG4930 of theG3588 world.G165 Amen.G281

We must be willing to fight for the most valuable of principles and

commodities: the Gospel and the souls for whom Christ died. Had the Lord
not intended for us to know spiritual warfare, He would not have made
such statements as, “Fight the good fight of faith…..”(I Tim.6:12), “…The
weapons of our warfare are…..”(2 Cor.10:4), “Thou are my battle ax and
weapons of war….”(Jer.51:20)

2. Why should you spiritually map an area?

In the following scriptures we see that the Lord had Moses send spies into
the land to find out specific details concerning the land. He wanted them to
posses the land, not just move in and blend.

Num 13:1 And the LORDH3068 spakeH1696 untoH413 Moses,H4872 saying,H559

Num 13:2 SendH7971 thou men,H376 that they may searchH8446 (H853) the landH776 of Canaan,H3667
whichH834 IH589 giveH5414 unto the childrenH1121 of Israel:H3478 of every tribeH4294 of their
fathersH1 shall ye sendH7971 aH259 man,H376 every oneH3605 a rulerH5387 among them.
Num 13:17 And MosesH4872 sentH7971 them to spy outH8446 (H853) the landH776 of Canaan,H3667 and
saidH559 untoH413 them, Get you upH5927 thisH2088 way southward,H5045 and go upH5927 intoH854
the mountain:H2022
Num 13:18 And seeH7200 (H853) the land,H776 whatH4100 itH1931 is; and the peopleH5971 that
dwellethH3427 therein,H5921 whether theyH1931 be strongH2389 or weak,H7504 fewH4592 orH518
many;H7227
Num 13:19 And whatH4100 the landH776 is thatH834 theyH1931 dwellH3427 in, whether itH1931 be
goodH2896 orH518 bad;H7451 and whatH4100 citiesH5892 they be thatH834 theyH1931 dwellH3427 in,H2007
whether in tents,H4264 orH518 in strong holds;H4013
Num 13:20 And whatH4100 the landH776 is, whether itH1931 be fatH8082 orH518 lean,H7330 whether
there beH3426 woodH6086 therein, orH518 not.H369 And be ye of good courage,H2388 and bringH394
of the fruitH4480 H6529 of the land.H776 Now the timeH3117 was the timeH3117 of the firstripeH1061
grapes.H6025

They also noted the people groupings and their locations within the land.
Num 13:29 The AmalekitesH6003 dwellH3427 in the landH776 of the south:H5045 and the Hittites,H2850
and the Jebusites,H2983 and the Amorites,H567 dwellH3427 in the mountains:H2022 and the
CanaanitesH3669 dwellH3427 byH5921 the sea,H3220 and byH5921 the coastH3027 of Jordan.H3383
The Apostle Paul did some spiritual reconnaissance while in Athens which
revealed to him the city had been given over to idols. The result of his
studying and surveying better equipped him for addressing the leaders of
the city and later evangelizing the area.
Act 17:16 NowG1161 while PaulG3972 waited forG1551 themG846 atG1722 Athens,G116 hisG848 spiritG4151 was
stirredG3947 inG1722 him,G846 when he sawG2334 theG3588 cityG4172 wholly given to idolatry.G2712
Act 17:22 ThenG1161 PaulG3972 stoodG2476 inG1722 the midstG3319 of Mars' hill,G697 and said,G5346 Ye
menG435 of Athens,G117 I perceiveG2334 that inG2596 all thingsG3956 yeG5209 are(G5613) too
superstitious.G1174
Act 17:23 ForG1063 as I passed by,G1330 andG2532 beheldG333 yourG5216 devotions,G4574 I foundG2147
an(G2532) altarG1041 with this inscription,G1722 G3739 G1924 TO THE UNKNOWNG57 GOD.G2316
WhomG3739 thereforeG3767 ye ignorantlyG50 worship,G2151 himG5126 declareG2605 IG1473 unto
you.G5213

It is important to be firm in your understanding of spiritual mapping and

spiritual warfare. In almost anything you do, you will be challenged by
someone at some time, as to the work you are doing. Before you step into a
mapping and/ or spiritual warfare project, you need to know that you have
been called by God to do so. Know where you stand scripturally, not as a
means of defense, but as a confidence in what you are doing.

3. Where do Territorial spirits operate?

Today, when we scout our land, what are we looking for? What is the
spiritual land like? Do we have “camps” or strongholds of pornography?
Does our city have camps of homosexuality, alcohol abuse, drugs? Is our
city held by strongholds of poverty, debt, maybe greed? What camps have
joined forces in order to accomplish a greater work? Don‟t be fooled by
thinking that the camps of darkness don‟t strategize and even work
together. They do!

One of the major differences that separate Christian beliefs from those of
the pagan is our understanding and worship of one God. A religion of
monotheism worships one God, versus the worship and recognition of
many gods.
Jer 10:10 But the LORDH3068 is the trueH571 God,H430 heH1931 is the livingH2416 God,H430 and an
everlastingH5769 king:H4428 at his wrathH4480 H7110 the earthH776 shall tremble,H7493 and the
nationsH1471 shall notH3808 be able to abideH3557 his indignation.H2195
Jer 10:11 ThusH1836 shall ye sayH560 unto them, The godsH426 thatH1768 have notH3809 madeH5648 the
heavensH8065 and the earth,H778 even they shall perishH7 from the earth,H4481 H772 and fromH4481
underH8460 theseH429 heavens.H8065

Many of these gods were recognized as deities that operated over cities or
regions. For example:
1Ki 20:23 And the servantsH5650 of the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 saidH559 untoH413 him, Their godsH430
are godsH430 of the hills;H2022 thereforeH5921 H3651 they were strongerH2388 thanH4480 we; butH199
let us fightH3898 againstH854 them in the plain,H4334 and surelyH518 we shall be strongerH3808
H2388 thanH4480 they.

Dan 10:13 But the princeH8269 of the kingdomH4438 of PersiaH6539 withstoodH5975 H5048 me oneH259
and twentyH6242 days:H3117 but, lo,H2009 Michael,H4317 oneH259 of the chiefH7223 princes,H8269
cameH935 to helpH5826 me; and IH589 remainedH3498 thereH8033 withH681 the kingsH4428 of
Persia.H6539

We see gods and goddesses over people groupings:

1Ki 11:33 BecauseH3282 thatH834 they have forsakenH5800 me, and have worshippedH7812
AshtorethH6253 the goddessH430 of the Zidonians,H6721 ChemoshH3645 the godH430 of the
Moabites,H4124 and MilcomH4445 the godH430 of the childrenH1121 of Ammon,H5983 and have
notH3808 walkedH1980 in my ways,H1870 to doH6213 that which is rightH3477 in mine eyes,H5869 and
to keep my statutesH2708 and my judgments,H4941 as did DavidH1732 his father.H1

As we study further, we find gods that were associated with other things:

Jer 7:18 The childrenH1121 gatherH3950 wood,H6086 and the fathersH1 kindleH1197 (H853) the fire,H784
and the womenH802 kneadH3888 their dough,H1217 to makeH6213 cakesH3561 to the queenH4446 of
heaven,H8064 and to pour outH5258 drink offeringsH5262 unto otherH312 gods,H430 thatH4616 they
may provoke me to anger.H3707

Eze 8:14 Then he broughtH935 me toH413 the doorH6607 of the gateH8179 of the LORD'SH3068
houseH1004 whichH834 was towardH413 the north;H6828 and, behold,H2009 thereH8033 satH3427
womenH802 weepingH1058 forH854 Tammuz.H8542
We see the account of God sending Moses to call down plagues upon Egypt.
Each plague demonstrated the power of the One True God, and the
impotency of the gods of Egypt.

1. When the Lord called upon Moses, the first sign He gave him was his
rod. His rod, which turned into a serpent, consumed the serpents
that had been rods of the magicians of Pharaoh. The serpent was the
symbol of royal authority to the Egyptians and was even a part of
Pharaohs crown. (Ex. 7:9)
2. Hapi was the god of the Nile, and he was powerless as God turned
the water into blood. (Ex. 7:17)
3. Think of the mocking of Heka, the female deity with a frog‟s head,
when God brought forth frogs into the land. (Ex.8:2)
4. Shu, the god of the air, was not able to stand against God‟s plague of
flies. (Ex.8:21)
5. The plague against the cattle was a direct assault also, as the
Egyptians worshipped cattle. (Ex. 9:3)
6. In the plague where boils resulted as Moses and Aaron threw ashes
from the furnace into the air, God blatantly mocked the gods Sutech
and Typhon. Their usual offering was the ashes of sacrificial victims.
(Ex. 9:18)
7. As hail fell from the sky, none of the gods of heaven could stop it.
(Ex. 9:18)
8. Part of Egypt‟s beauty was the Sycamore trees. God sent the locust
and they were all devoured. (Ex.10:4)
9. The plague of darkness showed the impotency of Ra, the sun god.
(Ex. 10:21)
10. Listen to the declaration the declaration of the Lord as He was
about to destroy the first born.

Exo 12:12 For I will pass throughH5674 the landH776 of EgyptH4714

thisH2088 night,H3915 and will smiteH5221 allH3605 the firstbornH1060 in the
landH776 of Egypt,H4714 both manH4480 H120 and beast;H929 and against
allH3605 the godsH430 of EgyptH4714 I will executeH6213 judgment:H8201
IH589 am the LORD.H3068
(12:12 THE Government exercises full governmental authority!)

Every time God had Moses speak to Pharaoh, He had to say, “let my
people go, that they may serve Me and worship Me”. Remember, the
bottom line for spiritual mapping and warfare is for the saving of souls,
in order that all of God‟s creation would be able to serve and worship
Him.

Who we are!

1. 2715 katexousiazo; to wield full privilege over, to exercise authority.
2. 1850 exousiazo ; to control, exercise authority upon, bring under the

The word emphasizes the legality and right more than the doing.”

Redeeming Authority

Use of authority is for purpose of redemption, from a heart

of compassion/love of the Father.

 Josh 1—wherever the soles of your feet tread, its yours. Authority to
claim territory—king—conquering authority.
o We are given the shoe of authority, to redeem, given shoes of
redemption:
o Ruth 4:7-8 “7In the olden times in Israel, this is how they
handled official business regarding matters of property and
inheritance: a man would take off his shoe and give it to the
other person. This was the same as an official seal or personal
signature in Israel. So when Boaz's "redeemer" relative said,
"Go ahead and buy it," he signed the deal by pulling off his
shoe.”
o Ministry of reconciliation: “All things are of God, who has
reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us
the ministry of reconciliation, 19that is, that God was in Christ
reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses
to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
20Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were

pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be

reconciled to God.” 2 Cor 5:18-20

 Redeeming authority is about bringing humans close to God, not

about getting rid of the evil. We get rid of the evil to be closer, not for
the sake of getting rid of evil or for the sake of war. God is not in a
battle.
 To be effective kings, we must be motivated by the Father‟s heart of
love and compassion; this motivation is born out of a personal
worship relationship with Abba and Jesus. Focus on beauty of God,
the majesty of God, the love of God, knowing our God. The
fulfillment of our priestly relationship.
 Dan 11:32 but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and
do exploits. We must become intimate with our God

Kings Administer Justice

Justice: H4941 a verdict, especially a sentence or formal decree,

including the act, the place, the suit, the crime and the penalty; to
pronounce sentence; to govern

 Zech 7:9-10 “This is what the Lord Almighty says: „Administer true
justice (4941); show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not
oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts
do not think evil of each other.‟”

 Jer 21:12 O house of David, this is what the Lord says: “Administer
justice (4941) every morning; rescue from the hand of his oppressor the
one who has been robbed, or my wrath will break out and burn like fire
because of the evil you have done—burn with no one to quench it.”

 Ps 140:2 I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds
the cause of the needy.

 Mat 23:23 Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you
hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But
you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice,
mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without
neglecting the former.
As kings, submitted to the King of Kings, we
1. exercise dominion
2. make decrees, establishing the dominion and kingdom rule: decree
justice, exercise Christ‟s redeeming power by participating in the
ministry of reconciliation

Possession for the Harvest

 Possess to reap the harvest, motivated by the Father’s
compassionate heart

Possession
Possess--(Heb 3423) - to seize, dispossess, inherit, occupy.

(Merriam-Webster)- to have and hold as property : OWN; to take into

one's possession; to enter into and control firmly : DOMINATE

Possession of the Gentiles, all of mankind—

Acts 15:16,17 “After this I will return And will rebuild the tabernacle of
David, which has fallen down;I will rebuild its ruins, And I will set it up;
So that the rest of mankind may seek the L ORD, Even all the
Gentiles who are called by My name [shall be possessed, Amos
9:12], Says the LORD who does all these things.”

o Num 13:30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and
said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able
to overcome it.
o Num 33:53 And ye shall dispossess [the inhabitants] of the
land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to
possess it.
o Jos 18:3 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long
[are] ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God
of your fathers hath given you?

Imagine the difference when a team of believing Christians choose to

take their place as watchmen over a city mile. The Light of God, which is
in them, will begin to abide in this city mile because they simply walk and
believe that it is true that “every place that the sole of your foot shall
tread upon, that have I given unto you” (Joshua 1:3).
The purpose for this possession is to yield the harvest:
1 Sam 8:12 And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and
captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his
harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his
chariots.

 Is 42:22 But this is a people robbed; they are all of them snared in
holes, and they are hid in prison houses. They are for a prey, for a spoil,
and none delivers and none says, „RESTORE.

 RESTORE [To bring back into existence, back into use; re-
establish; To give back anything taken away or lost; To put
back to a former place or position, rank, etc].

 But this is a people robbed [destroyed, plundered,

spoiled]; they are all of them snared [a net is spread over
them] in holes [like in the cell of a prison], and they are
hid in prison houses. They are for a prey, for a spoil, and
none delivers [defends, snatch away, recovers, rescues]
and none says, ‘RESTORE [To bring back into existence,
back into use; re-establish; To give back anything taken
away or lost; To put back to a former place or position,
rank, etc]. Is 42:22

 The oppressed of the earth are waiting for the mighty men, women
and children of prayer to cry “Restore!”
 The prisoners are waiting for those with the keys of freedom to insert
the key into the lock of the prison house, releasing many into the
kingdom.

Watching With Authority

Watchmen and Gatekeepers. There are three categories of

watchmen and gatekeepers: (1) spiritual watchmen, (2) spiritual
watchmen/gatekeepers, (3) civil gatekeepers
Spiritual watchmen:

(From Releasing Heaven on Earth: God’s Principles for Restoring the

Land, Alistair Petrie):
In most present-day prayer circles, intercessors are regarded as the
watchmen of a city. In many cases, though, watchmen are not only
intercessors but leaders. The watchman is the person who stands before
God on behalf of the land so He does not have to destroy it because of its
sins (see Ezekiel 22:30). The watchmen are also those posted to stand in
the gap between God and His people, to intervene on their behalf and to
sound the alarm when the enemy launches an attack. As Ezekiel 3:17
states, “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel;
so hear the word I speak and give them warning for me.”

 (Heb. 8245) to be alert, sleepless; to be on the lookout (whether for

good or ill) Pro 8:34
 (Heb 6822) to lean forward, that is, to peer into the distance; to
observe, await. Isa 21:5
 (Heb. 4929) a guard, a deposit; to hedge about (as with thorns), to
protect, attend to Neh. 4:9
(Greek 1127, 69) to keep awake, that is, watch, be vigilant, to waken,

Spiritual watchmen/gatekeepers and Civil gatekeepers:

(From Releasing Heaven on Earth: God’s Principles for Restoring the

Land, Alistair Petrie): Gatekeepers of the city do not consist only of clergy
and pastors. They include politicians, educators, economists, health
officials, media personnel and certain indigenous laypersons.
Gatekeepers are people of influence who can readily determine the ebb
and flow of what goes on in the life of their city. From Scripture we learn
that they are to protect the city, to make decisions concerning it, to discern
what is right and wrong, to determine the city’s direction, to govern it (at
times spiritually), to allow or deny entry to whatever form of influence
seeks to enter it, to remain vigilant at all times and not to leave their posts.
Nehemiah acknowledged the importance of gatekeepers following the
rebuilding of the wall: “The gates of Jerusalem are not to be opened until
the sun is hot. While the gatekeepers are still on duty, have them shut the
doors and bar them” (Nehemiah 7:3). First Chronicles 26 also gives insight
into the responsibilities of gatekeepers. Gatekeepers execute extraordinary
authority in the city and can appropriate Matthew 18:18-20 on a corporate
basis—for binding and loosing, and for asking the Father, in agreement, for
anything in Jesus‟ name.

The Doors to a City (If assigned, we can pray for the civil gatekeepers, as
well as be the spiritual watchmen/gatekeepers):

1. Church door
2. Legal door—includes police, lawyers, judges and anyone responsible
to care for the security of others
3. Education door
4. Commerce and business door: airport, banking headquarters
5. Political door
6. Door of influence—people of influence, such as sports figures, radio
and television personalities and regular media
7. Putting together your strategy

1. Gather all information together from team members

2. Separate it out according to groupings of sins which defile
the land.
3. Seek the Lord as to what the order of significance or priority
in each of the groups (there are layers, and importance
within the layers)
4. Identify the principalities/powers or spiritual wickedness
5. Look for linking powers that support the platform of evil
6. Seek the Lord as to the swords that will dismantle the sin
7. Seek the name of the Lord which we run into and are safe
8. Write your decrees: What does the Word say about that
particular sin
9. Write your proclamations of who God is in the midst. What
is His redemptive character it the midst of it.
10. Prepare well: Spiritually, physically, emotionally and
mentally.
11. Be in total agreement! Plan your trip on site with insight!
