Reverse Engineering

The document is a proposal for a reverse engineering project to design and build a replacement hood for a lawn mower. It includes an introduction outlining that a friend found a lawnmower without a hood, prompting the project. It then provides exploded views of the proposed hood assembly, bills of materials, sketches of individual parts, instructions for assembling the hood with lights and vents, and proposed improvements such as adding side vents and a locking mechanism.

My Proposal
Group:
Karissa Billock

My product:
Lawn Mower Hood Cap

My Thoughts behind this project:

My friend found a lawnmower on the side of the road and it didn’t have a hood on it, therefore, I thought of coming
up with an idea to help him make a new hood for it.

How to assemble
What will be needed for this:
● Bolts/bearings
● Metal plates for sides and top
● Lights
● Electrical wiring
● A vent in the front so the motor stays cool
● Springs

Tools needed:
● Wrench
● Measuring tape
● Welder tool
● Wire cutters

Safety First:
Make sure you are wearing proper clothing. For example, no hoodies, no long sleeves shirts, long pants, and no open-toed shoes. Also,
make sure you are wearing safety glasses and rubber gloves. If you have long hair, please tie it up. Do not wear any jewelry.

Directions On How To Assemble

Step 1: Weld the sides together on the frames.

Step 2: Weld the vent on the front.

Step 3: Put springs on the back on the front panel and then attach
the springs to the bottom of the tractor.

Step 4: Put the nuts and bolts on the hinge.

Step 5: Connect the wire to a power source. Then put the lights
into the cut out holes in the front panel.

Step 6: Turn on the lawn mower to make sure the lights come on
and everything is running smoothly.

How To Improve:
To improve the lawnmower hood cap, I would add vents on the side for more circulation to the motor. Also, make the lawnmower
air dynamic, so you can get better results. As well as, make a lock for the hood to keep in place so if you hit a bump, the hood wouldn’t
flap open. The lock will make a strip that attaches from the top angle side to the bottom of the lawnmower. Another part I would change is
the lighting. I would put the light bulbs on the front panel of the hood instead of on top of the hood.
What I could have done differently during this project was to take the hood completely off and measure the motor itself. I noticed
that the motor is sticking out just a little bit on the sides. That way the hood would fit properly on the lawnmower. I could have added
grease to help the hood move up and down easier.
