Learning Task 1:
Real Talk
Directions. Read the conversation provided for you here. Underline the
vocabulary or jargons that are intimate in nature.
While at the living room…
Tasha: I dunno, it was just this show about a girl who gets pregnant when she’s only
17. They follow her around for a while when she’s pregnant and then afterwards
when she has the baby.
Mom: Sounds kind of interesting. What did you think of it? Was it realistic?
Tasha: Geezz, she definitely had a lot of problems. When she was pregnant she
couldn’t do all the stuff that her friends were doing and had to miss out on things like
going on the class trip at the end of the year which sucked for her.
Tasha: Well she didn’t really have a good place to stay. Her parents were really mad
at her so they kicked her out and she was staying at her boyfriend’s, but he was a
real jerk. I can’t believe that her parents were so mean that they would actually kick
her out of the house. I mean she made a mistake, but that seems beyond mean.
Mom: Well, I can tell you from a parent’s perspective maybe they think that’s the only
way that she can learn a lesson. I don’t think I could ever kick you out of the house,
but I certainly wouldn’t be very happy if you told me that you were pregnant.
Mom: It would be pretty tough, but I know that you’re a smarty pants and you must
know that you don’t have to put yourself in that situation.
Tasha: Yeah, yeah, I know, Dad’s already told me that I just have to stay away from
boys in general…

Mom: (laughing) I’m not sure that will always be the answer. Although I’m pretty sure
that’s what your dad would prefer.
