II. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project "Basic tutorial session: MATHalino ako!" extends an introductory tutorial session,
incorporating Mathematics, and endeavors to increase the knowledge of children from ages 6 to 8.
Various exercises have been devised to ensure a thorough understanding of the children's occurring
tutorial session.

Mathematics was appointed as the principal part of the tutorial session. As an opening activity,
games will excite the children’s curiosity and increase their enthusiasm for the following tutorial session.
Easy topics will be covered to accommodate the children’s mental development since an age restriction of
6 to 8 has been specified. These topics comprise basic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication,
and division. It also covers mathematical stories that the children can apply in their daily lives. Moreover,
as a concluding activity for the opening part, a mini-game consisting of five questions correlating to
essential life utilization shall be held.

After accomplishing the first part, the children will be divided into groups to attain teamwork in
understanding all of the covered topics. This further enhances the children's capacity to think critically and
collaboratively with a group.

III. PROJECT RATIONALE

The greatest legacy parents can give to their children is education. Unfortunately, one of the challenges
our country is struggling to tackle is illiteracy due to poverty. However, poverty-stricken or not, because of its
intangibility, knowledge is the foremost thing a person can attain, indicating that no one in this world can steal such
treasure. Even awareness is capable of contributing to poverty reduction in the Philippines.

Therefore, the social status of an individual will be of no hindrance to his or her acquisition of information
with the required amount of effort. However, learning mathematics also causes anxiety and dislike, despite one's
strong motivation to learn. Also, that is the problem this project seeks to solve. With the expertise acquired by
Mapúa University's CWTS students, who were able to complete their incompetent and private academic institutions
in their primary and secondary schools, defining this project's objectives is certain to provide the efficiency of CWTS
students as mentors.

This project aims further to develop the mathematical skills of the participants to be educated
academically. In some applications, it also helps to teach children the importance of mathematics. Also, considering
their complexity, the project promotes taking delight in learning mathematics. The children will fail to focus away
from their teachers with thought-provoking questions and advanced study guides as they will be motivated to
understand the subjects that will be tackled.

A game will take place in each tutorial and will be supervised by the game committee. During the
beginning of the Math session, the introductory game associate’s questions about basic operations to encourage the
children to have a simple overview of the lessons that will be taught. A mini-game whose winner will win a school
supply package will precede the session (notebook, two pencils, a sharpener, and an eraser). Those who have
replied will be given a consolation prize (notebook). Snacks consisting of a sandwich and juice must be given at the
end of the operation.

IV. PROJECT BENEFICIARIES

This project is a mathematics tutorial session. Students ranging from grades 1 to two, aged 6 to 8 years
of age, exempt individuals from attending the tutorial. Only 20 students are limited to the tutorial session.
