Safety information

Important information
Read these instructions carefully and look at the equipment to become familiar with the device before trying
to install, operate, service or maintain it. The following special messages may appear throughout this bul-
letin or on the equipment to warn of potential hazards or to call attention to information that clarifies or sim-
plifies
a procedure.

The addition of either symbol to a "Danger" or "Warning" safety label indicates that an electrical hazard exists
which will result in personal injury if the instructions are not followed.

This is the safety alert symbol. It is used to alert you to potential personal injury hazards. Obey all safety mes-
sages that follow this symbol to avoid possible injury or death.

DANGER
DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury.

WARNING
WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.

CAUTION
CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate
injury.

NOTICE
NOTICE is used to address practices not related to physical injury. The safety alert symbol shall not be used with this
signal word.

Please note
Electrical equipment should be installed, operated, serviced and maintained only by qualified personnel. No responsibility is assumed by Sch-
neider Electric for any consequences arising out of the use of this material.

A qualified person is one who has skills and knowledge related to the construction, installation, and operation of electrical equipment and has
received safety training to recognize and avoid the hazards involved.
Safety precautions
During installation or use of this software, pay attention to all safety messages that occur in the
software and that are included in the documentation. The following safety messages apply to
this software in its entirety.

WARNING
UNINTENDED EQUIPMENT OPERATION
• Do not use the software for critical control or protection applications where human or equipment safety relies on
the operation of the control action.
• Do not use the software to control time-critical functions because communication delays can occur between the
time a control is initiated and when that action is applied.
• Do not use the software to control remote equipment without securing it with an authorized access level, and
without including a status object to provide feedback about the status of the control operation.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death or serious injury.

WARNING
INACCURATE DATA RESULTS
• Do not incorrectly configure the software, as this can lead to inaccurate reports and/or data results.
• Do not base your maintenance or service actions solely on messages and information displayed by the software.
• Do not rely solely on software messages and reports to determine if the system is functioning correctly or meeting
all applicable standards and requirements.
• Consider the implications of unanticipated transmission delays or failures of communications links.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, equipment damage, or permanent loss of
data.

WARNING
POTENTIAL COMPROMISE OF SYSTEM AVAILABILITY, INTEGRITY, AND CONFIDENTIALITY
• Change default passwords to help prevent unauthorized access to device settings and information.
• Disable unused ports/services and default accounts to help minimize pathways for malicious attackers.
• Place networked devices behind multiple layers of cyber defenses (such as firewalls, network segmentation, and
network intrusion detection and protection).
• Use cyber security best practices (for example: least privilege, separation of duties) to help prevent unauthorized
exposure, loss, or modification of data and logs, or interruption of services.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, and equipment damage.

Introduction
Event Notification Module (ENM) installation is one step in the commissioning of a
system. The current install allows for a great deal of flexibility including both local and
remote database instances. To facilitate remote installation, the setup allows the user
to choose from three install types.
• Complete Installation
The Event Notification Module and the SQL database will reside on the same
server host and the user is required to choose an SQL instance on the local
machine for the install to configure the database server.
• Database Server
Installs the database components on the database server for Event Notification
Module. This install type must be run on a database server machine and will not
install the database components on a remote machine.
NOTE: The ENM server application components are not installed during this
installation.
• Application Server
Installs only the server application components. The user must first install the
database server, in order to operate the ENM application.
For reference the following have been provided in this guide:
• Requirements
Hardware and Software requirements that must be met in order to install ENM.
• Upgrades
Upgrade cases which have been detailed for existing users.

Requirements
Please note the following system requirements when installing or using Event
Management solutions.
NOTE: For server systems where SQL Server will also be installed, please refer to the
SQL requirements to ensure the system is able to host both SQL and ENM.
NOTE: SQL Server must be configured to run as the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
account.

Upgrades
To upgrade a system that has an ENM 7.1 configuration to ENM 8.3.3, please see the
steps that follow.

Upgrade from ENM 7.1 to ENM 8.3.3

This process will upgrade the database to a new Database Schema followed in
ENM 8.3.3, automatically preserving the ENM 7.1 Database. This is an irreversible
change. To use the ENM 7.1 database backup, it must be restored to another ENM
7.1 system.
1. Uninstall ENM 7.1 through Control Panel > Programs and Features.

2. Install ENM 8.3.3 by running the install executable.

NOTE: During the configuration step of the upgrade, three tasks display:
Backing Up Previous Historical Data: Backs up the PLES_AEHistory Database to the
Database Location selected in the installer.
Trimming Previous Historical Data: Trims the PLES_AEHistory Database to
2,000,000 records.
Migrating Previous Historical Data: Converts the data into the new ENM 8.3.3.
Schema.

Upgrade from ENM 8.x to 8.3.3

Click Next to install ENM in the default location. You are prompted to create a new
folder if this is a new install.

Click Yes to allow the install to create the default folder. Or, click No, then browse to
the preferred location. After you select the location, click Next.
NOTE: When installing Event Notification Module (ENM) and Sequence of Events
Recorder (SER) on the same machine, they are required to share the same File
Destination. Files are shared between both products that are fundamental to proper
behavior. When installing on the same machine, verify the location where these
products may be installed.
5. The Backup Location screen displays for you to choose the database location.

to create the folder. Click Yes to proceed.
6. The Database Maintenance Credentials screen displays.

Enter credentials that belong to a Local Windows Administrator associated with the
machine on which ENM is being installed. The username and password
credentials will be verified in the following screen.

Click Next.
7. The Database Software screen displays:

By default, the local database instance is selected. The format displayed is

"machine name\database instance." Ensure that it is correct.
Enter the login credentials (username and password) associated with the
database, and click Next to continue.
A progress bar displays while the credentials are verified and the connection to the
database is tested.
If the credentials are invalid or if the database connection fails, an error displays.
Correct the information and click Next.

8. The install begins with the Check System screen displayed.

The ENM application checks to see if the requirements are met. If there is an issue
with any requirement, you are notified; the installation will not proceed until the
issue is corrected. The program verifies the following:
