INTRODUCTION

Transport phenomena is the integrated study of momentum, energy and mass transport.

Unifies fluid dynamics, heat transfer and mass transfer.

• Transport of momentum, heat and mass often occur simultaneously

• The basic equations describing the transport of momentum, energy and mass are similar

• The molecular mechanisms underlying the transport of momentum, energy and mass are similar

INTRODUCTION

Transport of momentum, heat and mass can be studied at different levels:

• Macroscopic Level: Macroscopic balances

• Microscopic Level: Equations of change

• Molecular Level: Mechanisms in terms of molecular structure, motion and interactions.
