1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

1.1. General
The project is located along the existing Kapedo-Lokwamwothing road in Turkana County,
North –Rift Region.
The project road starts from Kapedo Market’ centre and runs in a north-eastern direction and
ends at Lokwamosing centre.

2.

2.1. Location
The road is located along Kapedo- Lokwamothing road in Turkana county of North-Rift
Region.

2.2. Scope of Works

The works to be executed under the contract comprise mainly of but not limited to the following;
 Provision of Preliminaries
 Site Clearance
 Excavation and Filing for structures
 Culvert and drainage works
 Passage of traffic
 Grading and Gravelling
 Any other works as may be instructed by the Engineer

2.3. Contract Sum

The Contract Sum is KShs.27, 213,832.00.This amount is inclusive of 16% Value Added Tax
(VAT).

2.4. Contract Period

The Contract Period is set as 6 Months with the expected completion date being 21st April 2019.

2.5. Source of Funding

The project is financed by the Government of Kenya through the Road Maintenance Fuel Levy
(RMFL) fund.

3.3. Programme of Works

The Commencement Date for the project, as defined in Article 17 of the Conditions of Contract,
was 22nd October, 2018. This was 14 days after the issue of the Order to commence by the Engineer,
dated 8th October, 2018.
The Contractor is yet to provide RE’s office with his programme of works.

4.4 Site Meetings

So far no site meeting has been held in the month of April, 2019.

6.0 Material Sources

4.4.1 Borrow Pits for Natural Material
The Contractor has submitted sample for natural gravel for use in the works, mainly for gravelling
works and the same has been approved.

7.0 ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY PROTECTION/HEALTH &SAFETY

7.1 Environmental Quality Protection

Pursuant to Clause 146 of Special Specifications the Contractor is required at all times to
preserve the environmental quality of the project area.

7.2 Health & Safety

Pursuant to Clause 117 of Special Specifications the Contractor has been providing, equipping
and maintaining health and safety throughout the works.
The contractor has been providing staff with reflective jackets, safety boots and masks
The contractor has been employing two people who will be flagging the traffic as the work
progresses.
