- MORE –
1 Radio Teacher: Thank you, teacher ____! Good morning Grade 4 pupils! How are

2 you? I will be your radio teacher for today, Teacher ________________. Come on

3 Let us learn more!

1 BIZ: MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS AND UNDER

2 RADIO TEACHER: Knock! knock! Do you know why you have to study from

3 home? (PAUSE) That’s because of the threats from COVID-19. What did you

4 do during the quarantine? Did you watch TV? I know some people who did!

5 BIZ: MSC 2 UP FOR 2 SECS AND THEN UNDER

6 RADIO TEACHER: Kids, let me tell you a story. Ian and his friends enjoyed

7 watching football game on television. They were surprised when they saw the

8 sports ground. They wanted to know how many people can it accommodate.

9 So, when the announcer said that 12 645 people came to watch the game,

10 they were really surprised!

11 BIZ: MSC 2 UP FOR 2 SECS AND THEN UNDER

12 RADIO TEACHER: Questions, how do you feel when you have fun with your

13 friends? (PAUSE) Great! Is it nice to be friendly? (PAUSE), Yes of course!

14 Who watched the game on TV? (Pause) Ian and his friends! How many people

15 came to watch the game? (Pause) 12 645! Hey can you imagine how big that

16 number is?

17 BIZ: MSC 3 FADE IN FOR 3 SECS AND THEN OUT

18 RADIO TEACHER: in visualizing numbers, use logs, blocks, flats, longs and

19 units or number discs such as 10 000s, 1 000s, 100s, 10s, and 1s. These two

20 ways to represent numbers are shown on your module, look!

21 BIZ: MSC 2 UP FOR 1 SEC AND UNDER:

22 RADIO TEACHER: Can you see circles with numbers on them? (PAUSE) There it

23 is! Those are called number discs! Say it again? Number discs!

- MORE -
1 BIZ: MSC 2 UP FOR 2 SECS AND THEN UNDER

2 RADIO TEACHER: Can you point the discs with numbers 1 written in it?

3 (PAUSE) Yes! Those are 1s discs and their place value is ones. Let’s count how

4 Many are them! One, two, three, four, five! How many? (PAUSE) Can you write

5 number 5 above those discs?

6 SFX: TING, SNEAK IN SNEAK OUT

7 RADIO TEACHER: Next, can you see discs with numbers 10 in it? (PAUSE)

8 Good! Their place value is tens. Let’s count them. One, two, three, four.

9 Good job! Can you write number 4 above those discs? (PAUSE) Thank you!

10 SFX: TING, SNEAK IN SNEAK OUT

11 RADIO TEACHER: Now look! What numbers are written on the next group of

12 discs? (PAUSE) 100! Nice! Their place value is hundreds. Now, it’s your turn

13 to count them. (PAUSE) Yes, there are six. Write six above them.

14 SFX: TING, SNEAK IN SNEAK OUT

15 RADIO TEACHER: Next, what numbers are written on the next group of discs?

16 (PAUSE) Yes, 1000! Now, count how many are them then write the number you

17 counted above the discs. (PAUSE) Finally, what discs is left? (PAUSE) 10 000!

18 How many can you see? Only one. Write number 1 above it also.

19 SFX: TING, SNEAK IN SNEAK OUT

20 RADIO TEACHER: Bravo! Now, look at all the numbers you have written above

21 the discs. (PAUSE) Are they familiar? Yes! That is the number of people who

22 came to watch the game. How many is that again? (PAUSE) 12 645!

- MORE -
1 SFX: APPLAUSE FOR 2 SECS, SNEAK IN SNEAK OUT

2 RADIO TEACHER: Are you following me so far? (PAUSE) Very good! (PAUSE)

3 Another way to visualize numbers is to use logs, blocks, flats, longs, and units.

4 Kids, we also call all of them mab! M-A-B, mab! Like number discs, these also

5 represent place values when grouped together.

6 BIZ: MSC 2 UP FOR 2 SECS AND THEN UNDER

7 RADIO TEACHER: Look at your modules! Can you see single squares? (PAUSE)

8 There it is! If it is just a single square or single mab, we call it unit. Again, we

9 call it? (PAUSE) Good. A unit represents place value ones. One square is equal

10 to one unit. Now, let's count how many units are there! One, two, three, four,

11 five! There are five units.

12 BIZ: MSC 2 UP FOR 2 SECS AND THEN UNDER

13 RADIO TEACHER: Next, look at the group of mabs in the next box. If we

14 combine 10 units and put them one on top of the other, we can form what we

15 call longs. Say it again with me. Longs! It’s easy to remember them because

16 they are long! Longs are under place value of tens. How many units are there

17 in one long? (PAUSE) 10! Very good!

18 BIZ: MSC 2 UP FOR 2 SECS AND THEN UNDER

19 RADIO TEACHER: Are you still with me? Don’t sleep. (PAUSE) Moving on. Look

20 at the next group of mabs. (PAUSE) If we combine 10 longs and put them side

21 by side just like what you see on the module, we form what we call, flat! One

22 ` more time (PAUSE) Flats are under the place value, hundreds. So in one flat,

23 there are 100 units! (PAUSE) How many flats can you on your module? (PAUSE)

24 Did you say six? Correct! So if there are six flats, how many units are there?

25 (PAUSE) 600!

- MORE –
1 BIZ: MSC 2 UP FOR 2 SECS AND THEN UNDER

2 RADIO TEACHER: in the next box, you will see what we call, block. Say it again

3 (PAUSE) Again (PAUSE) If we combine 10 flats and stack them up together like

4 how we stack up our books, we can form one block! (PAUSE) In one block, there

5 are 1000 units! So, what do you think is the place value of a block? (PAUSE)

6 thousands, right! How many blocks can you see on your module? Two! So if

7 there are two blocks, how many units are those? (PAUSE) Did you say 2 000?

8 Correct!

9 BIZ: MSC 2 UP FOR 2 SECS AND THEN UNDER

10 RADIO TEACHER: Finally, there’s one more left! Can you guess what this is

11 called? (PAUSE) Log! Very good. If we combine 10 blocks, we can form one log!

12 The place value of a log is ten thousands. So in one log, there are 10 000 units!

13 (PAUSE) How many log can you see there? Only one.

14 BIZ: MSC 2 UP FOR 2 SECS AND THEN UNDER

15 RADIO TEACHER: Now if we combine all of those mabs together, how many

16 units do you think are there? (PAUSE) 12 645! Wow, you are fantastic!

17 BIZ: MSC 2 UP FOR 2 SECS AND THEN UNDER

18 RADIO TEACHER: Kids, that’s it for today! I hope you learned very well. Once

19 again, I am your Teacher ________. See you next time!

20 BIZ: MSC 2 UP FOR 2 SECS AND THEN OUT

21 BIZ: MSC 1 UP FOR 2 SECS AND THEN UNDER

22 HOST: Wow! Thank you, Teacher _______! Pupils, you are doing great! I’m back

23 again, Teacher ______ your host in Radyo Eskwela na Tayo sa South Cotabato.

24 (PAUSE) Did you all learn? (PAUSE) Well, let’s make sure you remember the

25 discussion. Let’s recap!

- MORE –
1 BIZ: MSC FOR RECAP FADE IN FOR 3 SECONDS AND THEN OUT

2 HOST: Remember, in visualizing numbers, use logs, blocks, flats, longs and

3 units or number discs such as 10 000s, 1 000s, 100s, 10s, and 1s. Number

4 Discs are grouped according to place values. Logs, blocks, flats, longs, and

5 units are mabs. One log is made up of 10 blocks. One block is made up of 10

6 flats. One flat is made up of 10 longs and one long is made up of 10 units!

7 (PAUSE) A unit is under place value ones, long is under tens, flat is under

8 hundreds, Block is under thousands and log is under ten thousands!

9 SFX: APPLAUSE FOR 2 SECS, SNEAK IN SNEAK OUT

10 HOST: Do you remember them well? (PAUSE) Before we proceed, I want you

4 MSC 1 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

5 HOST: I think you are ready for another lesson. If you are ready, let me introduce

6 your radio teacher for today. Teacher _________, take it away!

7 MSC 1 OUT

8 MSC 2 FADE IN AND UP FOR 10 SECS THEN UNDER

9 RADIO TEACHER: Thank you very much, Teacher _______! Hello kids, how are you?

10 We will begin a new lesson for today! In this lesson, we will focus on the place value

and

11 value of each digit in a number. Remember this: the value of each digit depends on its

12 position that it occupies in a large number.

13 SFX: TING! SNEAK IN AND OUT

14 RADIO TEACHER: Kids, I want you to meet my friends! On page 9 of your modules,

you

15 will see my friends inside a box. I call them digits! Say hi to them. (PAUSE) My friend

16 digits are one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine and zero.

17 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

18 RADIO TEACHER: My friends can form pairs and groups. When they form and

combine,

19 they call themselves, numbers! Examples: If digits 1 and 2 combine to form a pair,

20 it’s number 12! If digits 3, 6, and 5 combine, they become number 365! Wow.

21 That’s number of days in one year! If digits, 2,0,2 and 0 combine, they form the

number

22 two thousand twenty! Isn’t that the year this time?

23 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

24 RADIO TEACHER: As you can see, when digits form a group or pair, they can repeat

25 themselves. Like the number 2020. Remember also, that when digits combine, the

order
26 of their combination is followed in forming the number. Examples: if we combine 1

and

27 2, the number formed is 12! But, using the same digits, if we combine 2 then 1, the

28 number formed is 21!

29 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

30 RADIO TEACHER: Now, if digits 9 and 3 combine, what number is formed? (PAUSE)

31 We’ll have 93. Very good!

MORE

1 RADIO TEACHER: What if digits 2, 4, 7 and 8 combine? What number is formed?

2 (PAUSE) 2478. Correct! But to help you more, you need to learn about place values

and

3 values. Another friend of mine wants to read you a situation.

4 Later, she/he will ask you questions. Listen carefully okay? Friend _______, come on

value.

7 So, 4 times one is? (PAUSE) four, correct! So the value of the digit is 4.

8 Next, the digit 6 is in the tens place. Can you see it? (PAUSE) Now, to get its value,

9 multiply it by its place value which is tens. So, 6 times 10 is? (PAUSE) 60! Correct.

10 (PAUSE) The digit 3 is in the hundreds place. So, to get its value, let’s multiply the

digit

11 3 by 100! So the value of the digit is? (PAUSE) 300! Great! Are you following me so far?
12 (PAUSE) Next. Where is the digit 5 placed in the chart? (PAUSE) Thousands, yes! To

get

13 its value, we will multiply the digit by 1000! So its value is? (PAUSE) 5000! Very good.

14 The last digit 2 is placed in ten thousands. Therefore, the value of the digit two is?

9 lesson. (PAUSE) So without further ado, let’s start our discussion.

10 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

11 TEACHER: Open your modules on page 14 and look under What is it (PAUSE) Below,

12 are the following important rules you have to remember to read and to write whole

13 numbers. Listen carefully. (PAUSE) Rule number 1: Read each group of digits from left

14 to right, then say the name of the group or period except in the unit periods. Example:

15 How do you read the number (RECITE AS DIGITS) 89 523? (PAUSE)

16 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

17 TEACHER: Kids, notice on your modules that we have 89 in the thousand period, and

18 523 in the unit period which are separated by space. So reading from the left to right

19 and separating by period, we read it as eighty-nine thousand, five hundred twenty-

three.

20 Remember, we do not include reading the unit period.

21 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

22 TEACHER: Let’s have one more example. (PAUSE) Write down the number (RECITE

23 AS DIGITS) 27 341. How do you read that? (PAUSE) Following the rule, we read from

24 left to right. In the thousand period, we have the number 27 and in the unit period we

25 have there 341. So how do you read that? (PAUSE FOR 2 SECS). It’s Twenty-seven

26 thousand, three hundred forty-one.

27 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

28 TEACHER: Now, in writing the number we have rule number two. (PAUSE) Staring

29 from the right, count three places and separate unit period from the thousand period

30 by putting space or commas in between. Example: How are we going to write seventy

31 one thousand, four hundred fifteen in symbols?

MORE

1 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

2 TEACHER: Look at your modules again. Notice that, from the right, counting three

3 digits, we separated the unit period from the thousand period by putting a space or a

4 comma in between them. (PAUSE) Did you see all of that in your module? (PAUSE)

5 TEACHER: How about we have one more example? Kids, try to write in symbols the

6 number Thirty-four thousand, two hundred eleven. (PAUSE FOR 2 SECS) You should

7 have written it like this: 3, 4 space or comma 2, 1, 1. Thirty-four

8 thousand, two hundred eleven!

9 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

10 TEACHER: For rule number three: when writing numbers in symbols, use zero as a

11 place holder. Say we have the number sixty-five thousand, twenty-six. How do we

write

12 that in symbols? (PAUSE) Again, on your modules, the zero in the hundreds place has

13 no value but it is needed to hold the place. (PAUSE) Always remember, a period is

made

14 up of three place values before you begin entering digits in the thousands period.

15 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

16 TEACHER: One more example so you can understand better. Write down in symbols

17 the number thirty-one thousand, seven hundred five. (PAUSE FOR 3 SECS) You

should
18 have written 3,1 space or comma 7,0,5. (PAUSE) Is your answer the same?

19 SFX: TING! SNEAK IN AND OUT

20 TEACHER: How was it kids? Did you understand our discussion? (PAUSE) Well, let’s

21 make sure you remember them. Let’s recap!

22 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

23 TEACHER: When reading numbers up to 100 000, read each group of digits from left

24 to right, then say the name of the period except for the unit period. And when writing

25 numbers up to 100 000, separate the unit periods from the thousand period by

putting

26 or providing a space or comma after three place. Lastly, use the digit zero as a

2 HOST: Yesterday, your teachers have discussed about the rules on how to correctly

read

3 and write numbers up to 100 000. But previously, we have also talked about the place

4 value and value of digits in a number? (PAUSE) Why don’t we review them, shall we?

5 (PAUSE) Remember, the place value tells the position, again tells the position of a

given
6 digit in a number. Not only that, place value also gives us idea what is the value or

worth

7 of any digit in a given number. On your modules, page 18, (PAUSE) you can see a

small

8 table. We call that place value chart. Again, place value chart! We have the number

9 98 641 given there. Look! (PAUSE) Now, what is the place value of the digit 1? (PAUSE)

10 Ones. What about the digit 8? (PAUSE) Thousands. The digit 9? Ten thousands.

(PAUSE)

11 Hmmm, the digit 4? (PAUSE) Tens. The digit 6? (PAUSE) Hundreds! (PAUSE) Wow! I

12 hope you’re correct!

13 REVIEW MSC THEME UP FOR 2 SECS THEN UNDER

14 HOST: How about we have a bit of test? (PAUSE) Still, on page 18, answer the given

15 multiple choice. Number your notebooks from 1-5. Select and write only the letter of

the

16 correct answer on your notebooks. I will give you 15 seconds to finish the task.

1 HOST: Once upon a time, there was a fisherman named Mang Tony. Among all

2 fishermen in the village, he is the most hard working. He takes good care of all his

3 Tilapia. That is why, his hard work pays off. Today, he is very happy because he

4 harvested 17 546 kilograms of Tilapia. Yesterday, he harvested 17 845 kilograms of

5 Tilapia Wow! But Mang Tony wanted to know which day did he harvest more. Is it

6 yesterday or today?

7 STORYTELLING MSC UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

8 HOST: Question, how many kilograms of Tilapia were harvested yesterday? (PAUSE)

9 17 546 Tilapia! How many kilograms of Tilapia are harvested today? (PAUSE) 17 845!

10 What is asked in the problem story? (PAUSE) So what day did he harvested more?

11 (PAUSE) How will you find out the answer to the problem? (PAUSE) What kind

12 of person is Mang Tony? (PAUSE) Well, he is a hard working person.

18 TEACHER: Thank you very much, Teacher _____! Hello, hello Grade 4 pupils! How do

19 you do? Welcome to our on-air lesson! (PAUSE) Now, as Teacher ____said, we will talk

20 about rules on comparing numbers! Why do we need to compare them anyway?

(PAUSE)

21 Of course, there are times when we need to know which numbers are greater, lesser

and

22 are equal! To make it easier, we will use relation symbols! Again, we will use, relation

23 symbols! But how do we really determine which is which? Well, we have simple steps

to

24 follow.

25 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

26 TEACHER: Step number1, align horizontally the digits with the same place value. Look

27 at your module on page 20. The numbers of Tilapia Mang Tony harvested are written

28 and aligned there. 17 546 for the number of Tilapia today and 17 845 Tilapia he

29 harvested yesterday. (PAUSE) Step number 2. Compare the digits in each place value

30 starting from the left. The first pair of digits that are different in values will tell you

31 which number is greater or lesser.

MORE

1 HOST: Look at the table. Let’s compare the digits in ten thousands place. (PAUSE)

2 They are the same or equal! Let’s proceed to the next place value, thousands.

3 Are the digits in that place value different or equal? (PAUSE) Again, they are equal!

4 So we will proceed to the next place value, hundreds! Now, compare them.

5 Are they different or equal? (PAUSE) They are different! Which is greater or higher,

6 5 or 8? (PAUSE) it’s 8 of course! Therefore, which is greater, 17 546 or 17 845?

(PAUSE)

7 Of course, 17 845! So, on what day did Mang Tony harvested more? (PAUSE)

Yesterday!

8 Very good!

9 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

10 TEACHER: Now, there are terminologies or words, notations and symbols you must

11 learn and remember when comparing numbers. Listen up kids!

12 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

13 TEACHER: Look there. Can you see symbol that looks like an arrow head that points

to

14 the right? We read that as greater than and it is used when the digit or number on the

15 left is larger than the digit or number on the right. Again, we use the symbol greater

16 than is the number on the left is larger than that on the right. Got it well? (PAUSE)

17 examples: a.) 4 354 is greater than the number 4,205. Is that right? Why don’t you try

18 to align the numbers quickly? (PAUSE FOR 3 SECS) Is it correct? Yes, it is. Next

example

19 b. 74 385 is greater than 71 493.

20 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

21 TEACHER: Next, can you see symbol that looks like an arrow head that points to the

22 left? We read that as less than and it is used when the digit or number on the left is

23 smaller than the digit or number on the right. Again how we read that? (PAUSE) Less

24 than good. We use that hen the number on the left is smaller than that on the right.

Let

25 me give you examples. The number 9 674 is less than 9 789. How do we know that is

26 correct? If you align the numbers, you can see that the digits on the hundreds place

27 value, which are 6 and 7 are different. Which one is lesser? It’s 6! Therefore, 9 674 is
28 less than 9 789! One more example: 12 583 is less than 13 002? Try to check if that is

29 correct. (PAUSE) Yes, it is!

30 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER

MORE

1 TEACHER: One last symbol. That symbol is read as equal to or equals. Repeat, equal

to

2 or equals! When do we use it? (PAUSE) Hmmm, we use that symbol if the number on

3 the left is same or equal to the number on the right. That means, if it is a large

number

4 and all the digits there are the same, they are equal! Examples: 4 273 is equal to the

5 sum of 4000 + 200 + 70 + 3! Add them together to see for yourself. Next, 5 650 is

equal

6 to the sum of 5000 + 650!

7 MSC 2 UP FOR 5 SECS THEN UNDER
