Correlation Analysis Between Soil Moisture and Rainfall in The Upland, Lowland, and Coastal Ecosystems of Tabaco City, Albay

This study aimed to develop an irrigation scheduling computer program for farmers in Tabaco City, Albay, Philippines. Soil samples were collected from three barangays and analyzed to determine soil type, porosity, field capacity, bulk density, and permanent wilting point. The relationship between rainfall and soil moisture content was analyzed, showing a positive correlation. Due to COVID-19, the computer program was not completed, but the data collected on soil properties and moisture content at different rainfall amounts can inform future development of an irrigation scheduling tool to help farmers determine crop water needs.

Regression Analysis
Results
The predicted soil moisture for the 3-study
area are closely ranging to observation 14 which has
the highest predicted soil moisture. The volumetric
soil moisture content remaining at field capacity is
about 15 to 25% for sandy soils, 35 to 45% for loam
soils, and 45 to 55% for clay soils.

Relationship between Rainfall

and Moisture Content
Result shows that the size of correlation
coefficient in each barangay is high and positive
by the rule of thumb which is 0.8 for Brgy. Buang
and San Vicente and 0.7 for Brgy. San Lorenzo.
The three Barangays shows the close relationship
or positive relationship between variables because
the dots are closely scattered in the upward
direction of regression line.

Irrigation Scheduling Computer

Program
One of the expected output of
this study is the computer program for
crop irrigation scheduling. However,
this was not materialized due to the
COVID-19 pandemic, which hindered
the researchers to gather data relative
to the formulation of the program.

Soil type. To determine the types of soil in the three (3) study areas,
soil sampling was conducted. Samples were brought to the Department of
Agriculture- Regional Soils Laboratory, Del Rosario, Naga City. The soil type
of Brgy. Buang, Tabaco City is sandy loam, Brgy. San Vicente and Brgy. San
Lorenzo is loam and sandy clay loam, respectively.
Soil porosity. Brgy. Buang, San Vicente and San Lorenzo were
