NODE 3: Advanced Features of Illustrator (Continuation)
 Import and Export Text
You can import and export text that you want. Here are the ways to import and export text.

Import Text
1. Click File, and then select Open. Select the file from the Open dialog box you want, and then click the Open button.
2. You can change the options in the Microsoft Word Options dialog box.
3. It will automatically convert into layer and into sublayer. You can now use the font size and font style.
Import text into an existing file
1. Click File, and then select Place. Select a file you want from the Place dialog box and then click the Place Button.
2. You can change the options in the Microsoft Word Options dialog box.
3. When you use Place, the document you import will fit in the illustrator document.
Export Text
1. Click File, and then select Export. Select the existing file you are working on.
2. The Export dialog box would ask if you want to replace it. Click Yes, and then click the Save button. If Text Export
Options is accepted, click the Export button.
3. The text in your Illustrator document will be exported to your existing file.

 Format Text
Whatever formatting text you have in word processing can also be in the Illustrator program. You can create columns
and rows, simple tables, wrap text or object, create headlines, and more.

Create rows and columns of text


1. Select your text or area type object.
2. Click Type in Menu Commands, and then select Area Type Options.
3. Do one of the following in the Area Type Options dialog box.
 Number – Specify the number of rows and columns you want.
 Span – Specify the height of individual rows and the width of individual columns.
 Gutter – Specify the distance between rows or columns.
 Inset Spacing – Specify the margin.
 Text Flow – Determine how text flows between rows and columns.
Wrap Text
1. Select the object you want to wrap in your text.
2. Click Object in Menu commands, the select Text Wrap, and then Make.
Fit a headline across the full width of a type area
1. Select your text or area type object.
2. Click Type in Menu commands, and then select Fit Headline.

 Apply Effects
Creating and applying effects in your text or object makes your work artistic, presentable, and more sophisticated.
1. Select your object.
2. Click Effect in Menu commands.
3. Use one of the following effects and apply the options you want in every dialog box of the effects.
 3D Extrude & Bevel
 3D Revolve
 Convert to Shape
 Distort and Transform – Zigzag
 Distort and Transform – Roughen
 Distort and Transform - Pucker & Bloat
 Distort and Transform – Tweak
 Distort and Transform – Twist
 Path – Offset Path
 Stylize – Drop Shadow (You can choose the mode you want.)
 Stylize – feather
 Stylize – Inner Glow (You can choose the mode you want.)
 Stylize – Outer Glow (You can choose the mode you want.)
 Stylize – Round Corners
 Stylize – Scribble

 SVG Filters – You can choose the types of SVG filter from the list (You can import the SVG filter.
 Warp – You can choose the style you want from the list.
 Effect gallery – You can choose effects in the gallery, like Artistic, Brush Strokes, Distort, Sketch,
Stylize and Texture. You can modify each effect. Click the OK button if you are done or the Reset
button to abandon.
Create a Mosaic
1. Insert an image. Rasterize first the object to be used in the mosaic.
2. Click Object in Menu commands, then select Create Object Mosaic.
3. You can apply options in the Create Object Mosaic dialog box, like changing the space in between tiles.
Create a Pattern
Pattern can be used in your text, object, or image. You can even create your own pattern.
1. Insert and click the image you want.
2. Click Object in Menu commands, then select Pattern, and then Make.
3. The new pattern has been added to the swatches panel. Click the OK button.
4. You can apply Pattern options, like new name for the pattern, size in between, spacing, overlap, and
number of copies. Click X if there are no changes.
5. The new pattern will be displayed to the Swatches panel.
Insert new gradient
1. Click the Swatch Libraries menu, then click Gradient, and select the gradient you want to add and apply.
2. The gradient will automatically be displayed in the Swatches panel.
3. You can now apply gradient in your object.

NODE CHALLENGE
I. Arrange the following:

Click File, and then select Export. Select the existing file you are working on.
