Zimulator - Requirements and Installation Guide

Showcase Zerto in its full functionality anytime, anywhere, from any PC, without the need for any
networking or server infrastructure with Zimulator. Zimulator uses the full Zerto Virtual Manager (ZVM)
product code in an local environment allowing you to control what you demonstrate and how.

Zimulator - Requirements
The Zimulator (Zerto's Demo Tool) is installed locally on a Windows based PC or tablet, which meet the
following requirements:

• Minimum 2 CPU / Cores (physical or virtual)

• Minimum 4 GB of available RAM

• Minimum 1 GB available hard drive space

• Windows 10

• User account with local admin privileges

• Chrome / Firefox / Internet Explorer

Accessing the Zimulator Files


To access the Zimulator files:
1. From myZerto ZAP portal, download the file Zimulator.zip.

2. When the download is complete, extract the folder into C:\ drive, or an appropriate data drive of the
Windows host.

• Take a note of the folder location as you will need this later.

• When the ZIP file is extracted, the following files appear:

• Zimulator

• ReadMe.txt

• Zimulator.bat

3. Continue with Deploying Zimulator on page 4.

Deploying Zimulator
Use the following procedure to deploy Zimulator in your environment.

To deploy Zimulator:
1. Navigate to the folder where you downloaded Zimulator.zip, and double click the file Zimulator.bat.

This opens a command prompt window briefly, followed by the Zimulator Menu.

2. If you are prompted by Windows User Access Control (UAC) to allow PowerShell to run, select Yes for
the deployment to proceed.

3. To Start Zimulator, enter the number 1 in the command line Please Make a Selection.

The deployment begins. This will take about 5 – 7 minutes to complete.

4. If an error appears during the deployment process, select 5 from the Zimulator menu to unblock the
files.

• Once the unblock is complete, select 1 to re-run the Start Zimulator process.

5. If you receive notifications requesting that you approve access for a ZVM, VRA, and VBA simulator,
select OK to proceed.

6. When the process is complete three Zerto UI’s open automatically on your computer. One UI for each
ZVM interface, and an additional UI for the Azure ZCA. The address of each UI is as follows:

These URLs will lead you directly to the ZVM / ZCA login screens for each demo site.

7. To access the ZVM and ZCA UI, enter the username zerto\Build, and password ZertoBuild.

After login is complete, the Zerto environment appears with 6 pre-created VPGs, which protect a total
of 23 VMs.

The ZVM environments will also have 2 pre-deployed VRAs.

Stopping the Zimulator


To stop the Zimulator:
1. Navigate back to the Zimulator Menu.

2. Enter 3 to Stop Zimulator.

Any progress or changes you have made to the environment is saved, and can be redeployed at a later
time.

Redeploying Zimulator
To redeploy Zimulator to the most recent in point in time before you last stopped it, restart the tool.

To redeploy with the previous configuration:


1. Double click Zimulator.bat.

2. Enter 2, to Re-Start Zimulator using last config.

3. When the process is complete, log back into the Zerto UIs.

The environment will be at the same point in time before you last stopped Zimulator.

Note: Zerto’s Long Term Retention and Search and Index functionalities are not supported with
this version.

All other functionality within the Zerto user interface is supported within the demo utility.

Troubleshooting Zimulator Deployment


For technical issues with Zimulator, gather a set of diagnostic logs from the Zimulator utility before
contacting Zerto.

To initiate the collection, select 6 from the Zimulator Menu.

When the log collection completes, it will provide the full file path to the diagnostic log bundle,
CollectDebugData.zip, which is required by Zerto.
