Note: The parameter table for a number of filter responses is given in the Appendix
at the end of this question paper.

1. With the aid of schematic diagram, give brief comparisons between a two pole
cascaded active filter and passive filter.

2. With the aid of schematic diagram, explain briefly to differentiate TWO (2) pole
cascaded low pass filter and high pass filter.

3. For the filter circuit shown in Figure 3;

a) Determine the type of filter and find its cutoff frequency, fc if the component
values are as follows;

R  1.2 k , RA  12.7 k , RB  11.4 k and C  0.02 F

Assume that the op-amp is ideal and consider Butterworth filter response.

b) Sketch and label the frequency response curve.

5. By referring to Figure 5, determine all the required values to produce a 4th order
Butterworth response with a critical frequency, fc of 10 kHz if all capacitors in RC high
pass circuit is 10 nF and resistor ratio m1 = 2 , m2 = 2.5. Assume R2 = R4 = 1kΩ.

6. Figure 6 shows a multiple band-pass filter. Determine:

a) the center frequency, maximum gain and bandwidth for the filter when the circuit
has the following specifications:

R1 = 68 kΩ, R2 = 180 kΩ, R3 = 2.7 kΩ,

C1 = C2 = 0.01 µF.

b) the value for each resistor; R1, R2 and R3 for the given parameter values:
