The experiment aimed to determine the flow rate and speed of water from a fountain. For a 250mL bottle, the average flow rate was 8.41x10-5m3/s and average speed was 0.27m/s. For a 500mL bottle, the average flow rate was 9.20x10-5m3/s and average speed was 0.130m/s. Faster filling times resulted in higher flow rates. The experiment showed that a larger fountain diameter produced a slightly faster filling time for the 500mL bottle compared to the 250mL bottle.

EXPERIMENT ON FLOW RATE

Objective: Determine the flow rate and speed of the water coming out from a water fountain.

Data & Results:

The amount of water (in terms of volume) that comes out a

water outlet per unit of time is known as volumetric flow rate. In
equation:

V
J=
t

The speed of the water that flow out the faucet is determined by
the formula:

J
v=
A

OBSERVATIONS:

The faucet was opened exceedingly and the water flows fast through it, and fills the bottle quickly. The
diameter of the faucet mouth was 0.02m. The time took less than 4 seconds to fill the 250 milliliters
bottle with water. In the 500ml the diameter of the faucet is larger that is why the time need to fill the
500ml was a bit close to the time of 250ml.

CONCLUSION:

The flow rate is the measurement of the volume of fluid that passes per elapsed time. The water fills the
bottle quickly because the faucet used originally produced water when it was opened to its maximum
and it affects the data and result from this experiment. In the 250ml, the first trial has the flow rate of
8.12x10-5m3/s with 0.26 m/s speed, the second trial has 9.43x10 -5m3/s with 0.30m/s speed, and the third
trial has 7.69x10-5m3/s with 0.25m/s speed. It appears that the fastest the time elapsed is, the higher the
flow rate.
