Basic Serves
LESSON PROPER:
Let’s Begin!
Service – putting the ball into play by placing on the palm, then releasing it on the air before striking it.
Forehand serve
The forehand serve is usually the first type of serve you will learn, and it is the most common. Basically, you
just have to hold your arm so the underside of it is facing the other player. Then, you simply hit the ball with
the back side of the paddle. This is the serve that most beginners are taught first, and it is likely one of the
serves you will use the most.

Backhand serve
The backhand serve involves using pretty much the same motion as the forehand serve. There is only one
major difference, and that is that the back of the hand is facing the other player. You hit the ball in the same
manner as you would with the forehand serve.

The top spin serve can be difficult to return if they are very fast and long, which happens most of the time.
You should be careful and not be caught off balance.
The no-spin serve balls would be easy to return, but it is easily possible to confuse these services with any
of the others above.
Backspin serve
This style will confuse your opponent. Place your body in such a position so that you are facing pretty much
ninety-degree away from the table. Bend your knee and spread apart naturally. The primary technique is to
cut underneath the ball. Come with your racket underneath the ball and brush it slightly at the right time.

Sidespin serve
Side underspin serves demand to set your paddle head to be pointed down to generate side spin force. Add
a tilt to your paddle. Move it slightly to the right side. While hitting the ball move your wrist forward and then
towards the table.
