Concept Test On Geometric Optics

This document contains an exam on concepts of geometric optics, including 6 multiple choice questions about flat mirrors, spherical mirrors, image formation, and image characteristics. An extra question asks the student to explain why the image formed by a second mirror of an image formed by a first mirror falls on the same point as the image formed directly by the second mirror.

Exam on concepts of Geometric Optics

Subject: Optics
Group: IE 3º01
Teacher : Rocio Magne Acosta Vázquez

Answer the following questions based on your knowledge of the concepts of geometric optics
(seen in class). Each question has a value (1.6 points)
1.- The image of an object that is reflected in a flat mirror will be and describes the most important
characteristics of a flat mirror

2.-Describe the most important characteristics of a spherical mirror and what type of images it forms

3.- With respect to the situation illustrated in the figure, is the image distance positive or negative? Is the
image real or virtual? Explain your answers.

4.- The image formed by a mirror is inverse; the image of a

right hand is a left hand, and so on (the hand rests on a
horizontal mirror). Are the images of the letters H and A
reversed?

5.- Is it possible to project the image of a real object onto a screen by means of a flat mirror? With a
concave mirror? With a convex mirror?

6.- What is the focal length of a spherical mirror of radius r?

Extra question
Explain the following question adequately, with a value of 1 extra point on the grade.
An important property of all images formed by reflective or refractive surfaces is that an image formed
by one optical surface or device can serve as the object of a second surface or device. The figure shows
a simple example. Mirror 1 forms an image P1´ of the object point P, and mirror 2 forms another image
P2´. Furthermore, the image P1 'formed by mirror 1 serves as an object for mirror 2, which then forms
an image of this point at point P3', as shown. Finally, mirror 1 takes the image formed by P2 'formed by
mirror 2 as an object and forms an image of it (which is also in P3'). Explain why the image P2 'taken by
mirror 1, formed by mirror 2 as an object, also falls on P3'.
