The Barangay Sebaca of Rizal Municipality, Province of Zamboanga del Norte and its neighbouring areas
are mostly agricultural and fishery countryside with “palay” or rice and coconut as the main cultivated
crops. As soil quality degrades through continuous usage, production of crops becomes short as
commercial fertilizers were available at expensive prices. In addition, commercial fertilizers lose its
valuable effect when continuously used because it raises the acidity and toxicity of soil. Meanwhile, fishery
is not solely a reliable way of generating income because of its limitations.
One initiative is to introduce the idea of Organic farming to the community to complement with the food
source and income of the people. It is a safe technique with no known ill effect to the environment. While
other agencies have started proliferating the idea to some places, it is appropriate to have a formal
lecture, seminar, workshop or even training for our students who may appreciate the outcome of this
means. A seminar- workshop for the students may help boost the momentum and continuity of teaching
this kind of farming to the countryside.
This activity seeks the expert skills of the Regional Agriculture Office personnel who will conduct the
seminar- workshop themselves. It is a timely project at a little cost that may benefit the entire community.
III. Project Objectives
Sebaca NHS, in its goal to provide a functional learning among students and teachers to be trained, aims
for them to:
1. Acquire the concepts of organic farming applied in animal raising and vegetable farming;
2. Construct a model garden and poultry house that utilizes the learned concepts;
3. Raise funds using the technology to support activities against malnutrition;
4. Impart what they learn to the community.
IV. Desired Impact and Outcome of Project
Sebaca National High School has offered Agri- Fishery Arts as part of its technical- vocational track offering
in Senior High School. The inclusion of Organic farming shall add dynamism to the course because of its practical
applications. Success indicators may include production quality and volume, income generated and assessment
ratings. The student’s success in the project implementation shall invite more learners for the expansion of the senior
high school program at Sebaca NHS.
The only considerable risk to realizing this project is incompetence and mismanagement. Meanwhile,
the school administration shall see to it that the maximum number of teachers shall participate and get
involved in the conduct of activity for the project implementation to be well coordinated. Committees may
be created in order that each step of the way will be properly supervised.
