Software Update Procedure for S40

--Based on version 3083


Update the touch panel:
1. The USB port on the side of touch panel is only for the update for the touch panel.
2. Copy the touch panel software to the root directory of an empty USB disk (no folder)
3. Insert the USB disk to the USB port on the side of touch panel.

4. Press the “Keyboard” key and hold it, wait the “System Update” appears.

5. Choose the “System Update” and wait it finish , then shut down the S40, remove the USB disk.
6. Reboot. The update for touch panel is finished.

Update the S40

Before Update:
Costumer should provide SonoScape Service Engineer the SN of the S40,

if the S40 can boot up, then the costumer should also provide SonoScape Service
Engineer the CN (Control Number), the CN could be checked in the “system information”

After you send the information to the engineers of SonoScape , they will give the link to
download the software you need.
Software upgrade procedure

Costumer should also make sure that the date, the year set on the S40 is correct, if not,
costumer should change the date and the year in the Bios setting, then save the setting
(Reference the Bios Setting chapter in the “kernel update” part).

After the preparation work, below are the steps of updating the S40:
There are two ways that costumer can update the S40:
1. Normal Update without kernel 2. Update with kernel

Normal Update without kernel: Kernel version won’t change, don’t need a bootable USB
storage, the patient data won’t deleted.

Update with kernel: Kernel version will change, totally reinstall the software, the HDD will
be formatted.

Caution: Back up the data before update.

Normal Update
1. Format your USB storage on a windows based PC, and copy the upgrade software like
asecureXXXXXX_3.0.8.3.tgz and adata_3.0.8.3.tgz to the USB storage.
Note: It is important to make sure that the USB storage only has one
asecureXXXXXX_3.0.8.3.tgz file.
If the USB storage has other files, the upgrade may fail.

2. Power up the system, plug the USB disk with software to S40 ; while in exam screen,
press shift, then e, then menu key one by one, the screen will display:

3. Input the yearly password :MH127(for 2017)


4. After input the password, Press Enter to confirm.
Note: The password is not case sensitive. If wrong password inputted, the s ystem will
display “invalid password”, reenter the correct password;

5. The screen will show:

7. Press “SET”.
8. The system will show: “Files successfully copied. Please exit and reboot system to
complete update”

9. Reboot the system, and remove the USB storage, wait for the install complete (There
will be a blue screen appears, don’t worry, it’s the system installing the software.)

10. After the exam interface appears, copy the “aconfigXXXXXX” to the root directory of
an empty USB disk.
11. Insert the USB disk in the USB ports on the side of the S40.
12. press shift, then e, then menu key one by one, the screen will display:

13. Input the yearly password :MH127(for 2017),and enter.

14. Choose “Software Update” and press set key

(The configuration already installed, costumer can remove the USB disk now)
15. Reboot the system.
16. Copy the keypass file to the root directory of an empty USB disk.
17. Insert the USB disk in the USB ports on the side panel of the S40.
18. press shift, then e, then menu key one by one, the screen will display:
19. Input the Monthly password :JM912 (Dec., 2017) and choose “Probe Table In”

20. The Keypass already imported to the S40, then we need to active it.
21. Get into the engineer mode(Press “Menu” button in the EXAM interface then input
the yearly password, press enter)

PS: For this step no dialog box shows on the screen, just input the yearly password.
22. Choose “dealer config ”

23. Press “I” button on the keyboard once to active it.

Kernel Update:
Essentials:
Bootable USB drive (Appendix A)
Update files(adata_3.0.8.3.tgz, asecureXXXXXX_3.0.8.3.tgz, aconfigXXXXXX, Keypass)
External USB keyboard
Below are the steps:
1. Format your USB storage on windows based PC, and copy the upgrade software like
asecureXXXXXX_3.0.8.3.tgz and adata_3.0.8.3.tgz to “Update” folder of the USB drive.
2. Insert the USB drive into the USB port on the left side of the S40 after step1.
3. Connect the external USB keyboard to the USB port on the left side of the S40.
4. Boot up the system and set the Bios(Keep pushing “Delete” key on the keyboard
many times when the system boot up)
5. Input the password for the BIOS setting: “service”

6. Get into the Bios, choose “Hard Drive BBS Priorities” then choose the Kingston USB
drive as the 1st drive like the picture below:

7. Check the boot priority of the boot device

8. Check the Bios time then Choose“Save changes and exit”

9. The system will reboot and boot from the Bootable USB drive.
10. Wait a while until a prompt message appears on the screen

11. Input the”forcekill” or “Y” command, (forcekill means that HDD will be formatted
on this step)
then press Enter.

12. When the system prompt: “Recovery Complete! Press any key to shut down” press
“Enter” key on the external keyboard.

13. After the system shut down, remove the bootable USB and the external keyboard,
boot the system and wait until the Exam screen appears (There will be a blue screen
appears, don’t worry, it’s the system installing the software.).

14. After the exam screen appears, that means the software has already install , the aconfig

file and keypass are not installed yet, there will be no inform about the license.

The software already installed, next we need to update the configuration and Keypass file.
15. Copy the “aconfigXXXXXX” to the root directory of an empty USB disk.
16. Insert the USB disk in the USB ports in the front of the S40.

17. press shift, then e, then menu key one by one, the screen will display:

18. Input the yearly password :MH127(for 2017)

19. Choose “Software Update” and press Set KEY

(The configuration already installed, costumer can remove the USB disk now)
20. Reboot the system.
21. Copy the keypass file to the root directory of an empty USB disk.
22. Insert the USB disk in the USB ports on the side panel of the S40.

23. press shift, then e, then menu key one by one, the screen will display:
24. Input the Monthly password :JM912(for Dec,2017) and choose “Probe Table In”

Reboot the system.

So far, we complete the update for S40.

Appendix A:
How to make a bootable USB disk for S40 via Linux live creator.
1. Get the 13.6 iso file of the kernel ;
2. Install “Linux live creator”, the exe file you can get on the internet;
3. Choose the language you need during the installation;
4. Choose the USB disk you will use for the bootable USB disk.

5. Choose the source of the iso file

6. Next we need to choose the step 4 in the software;

Choose the second option and leave another two empty.


7. Press the lighting to start the process

8. Wait about 10 minutes and you will inform the success.


You can check the size of the USB disk and folders in it.
The size of the USB disk should be 1.85GB

9. Copy the adata and asecure files into the folder “update”

10. Then the USB disk is a bootable USB now.
