Introduction
Background of the Study
According to Potter (2001), events leading to influenza pandemics are recurring
biological phenomena and cannot realistically be prevented. Pandemics seem to occur at 10-15-
year intervals as a result of the emergence of new virus subtypes from virus re-assortment. Truly,
this pandemic has brought big changes in our daily lives. It brought limitations in doing indoor
and outdoor activities. It closed the door to some small business owners due to financial
insufficiency. In Philippines, it has shown that COVID-19 had shocked the economic state of the
country. It does not only brought problems to individuals, businesses, public health but it
encompasses to the entire economy. Owners needed to take a step to layside and save its
companies and businesses. Asian Development Bank provided data that shows employment
adjustments, 41.4% of the full-time regular employees had their working hours cut and 32% of
its number had their salary and benefits reduced. In line with this, we are facing this pandemic
for almost a year now, therefore, we need to cope up with the new normal. Some of the
businesses are implementing work-from-home setup but apparently, 57.0% of the population,
provided by Asian Development Bank through their survey, are not feasible and possible for this
set up This data has given us knowledge that this COVID-19 has affected everyone's daily living.
We, the researchers, will be conducting a research in our barangay regarding on how this
pandemic affected the sales of micro businesses and we will be giving recommendations and
solutions in which could help in some ways for our small business owner. Notably, the data
provided above has helped the present study to widen the scope of the said analysis through
surveys, collecting answers from questionnaire, and manipulating statistical data.
