Academic Writing Outline

Words count start from the Introduction to the last word of conclusion

At least 3 Sentences per paragraph and should be 10 to 35 words long

1. Introduction (10%)
a. Overview of problem / background information
b. Thesis Statement: Claim
2. Body: Lay down the claims and examples to your thesis statement (80%) (200 words max per
paragraph)
a. Each paragraph one idea / topic sentence
b. Topic Sentence 1st Paragraph: Support claim with evidence
c. Topic Sentence 2nd Paragraph: Add Statistics to your argument
d. Topic Sentence 3rd Paragraph: Use example to support reasoning
3. Conclusion (10%)
a. Restate Thesis Statement
b. Summarize key points of body
