Ix. Computation For Seismic Method: C I RT W I R W

This document discusses the computation for seismic design method. It provides formulas to calculate the base shear (V) based on factors like importance (I), total seismic dead load (W), seismic coefficient (Cv), numerical coefficient (R), seismic coefficient (Ca), fundamental period of vibration (T), soil type (Sc), near source factor (Nv), seismic source factor (Z) and height of building (hn). It then calculates the base shear, overturning moment and design of the base plate for a given structure example.

COMPUTATION FOR SEISMIC METHOD

DESIGN OF BASE SHEAR:

Where:
V = Base Shear
I = Importance Factor
W = The Total Seismic Dead Load
Cv = Seismic Coefficient
R = Numerical Coefficient representative of the inherent over strength and global ductility
capacity of lateral force – resisting system
Ca = Seismic Coefficient
T = Elastic fundamental period of vibration in seconds of the structure in the direction
under consideration
Sc = Type of Soil
Nv = Near Source Factor
Z = Seismic source factor
hn = total height of the building
OCCUPANCY CATEGORY: III (SPECIAL OCCUPANCY STRUCTURES)

Given Values:
Z = 0.4 Ct = 0.0853

Wt. of Purlins = 9.81(18.18)(4)(40) = 28.5353 kN

Assume weight of beam, 0.5 kN/m
Wt. of Beams = 0.5(19.5)(5) = 48.75 kN

Assume weight of column = 1000 N/m

Wt. of Column = 1.00(5)(12) = 60 kN

SOLVING FOR TOTAL WEIGHT:

W T =4.6271 ( 6 )+28.5353+ 48.75+60=165.0479 kN

SOLVING FOR BASE SHEAR:
