LESSON 1
ACTIVITY

Na-guidance ka na ba?

Students will be asked to share their respective experiences during their

elementary or high school years as to why they were sent to the guidance office.

Remembering way back 7th grade, I was at a contention with my batchmate, we vary in
section, it was a negligible reason and numerous individuals have seen it. We were told
to go to the principal’s office to settle the issue, we were inquired to go to the guidance
office to have a counselling.

What are the reasons why the referral was made by their teachers or other
school authorities?

The teachers who handled us were the ones who sent us to the guidance office
together with some people who have seen the argument. Our teacher have contacted
our parents and they immediately went to the school so they can also figure out how to
resolve the issue.

What perceptions were developed in their consciousness as to the meaning of

being brought to the guidance office.

A feeling of fear and embarrassment, thinking that, of all people, why does it have to
happen with me? I got afraid because many people will see what is going to happen
and maybe our parents will scold me.

(Written output will be placed in their respective notebook/personal journal)

The activity above made me remember

That not everything I do is appropriate and it made me realize that I have to think before
I speak because it may cause me to offend someone with my words and actions. Being
responsible with all your actions can help you avoid such situations that can ruin your
image.

It made me think and realize that

If you are going through something, talk about it and do not go into something
scandalous, it might ruin your record as well as the image you are trying to build up.
And think twice before committing into a situation where you cannot handle properly and
might put you in jeopardy.

I therefore commit to

Be responsible with my actions and will be accountable if I have done something wrong.
I will also go directly to the guidance counselor to have a counselling if I can handle the
situation well.

APPLICATION

When one is to be referred because of a school violation, is it appropriate to bring

him at once to the guidance office? Why?

List your reasons for answering yes or no.

Of course, yes. It is indeed appropriate to bring someone if he has done a violation

inside the school. There are plenty of reasons why it must be done:
1. To conduct a counselling is vital in order to know someone’s feeling or the
reason why he/she have done that.
2. To give an advice or warning if he/she is going to take offense in school rules.
3. Counselling helps students on how to discipline students by providing such
action that will serve as a sanction to their behavior.

Assess what you have learned. (Post – Test will be administered on a later date)

done so much to come this far. As a final requirement, I want you to write a short essay

would like you to reflect on what you have done and experienced in your recent activity
because that is the key to moving forward. You can do that by completing each clause
below.

The activity above made me remember

There are times that superstitious beliefs happen and sometimes it does not happen.
The only way we could get rid of this is to pray and trust to the Lord who has better
plans for us. Sometimes these beliefs are not true and it sometimes happen to be real
and I consider it coincidental.

It made me think and realize that

Not every belief that you have grown believing were true. Our ancestors used to believe
all of this without scientific basis. Over the years, it has been inherited to us and
included in our traditions and cultures. Before, I was skeptical to do an action because I
believe that once I encountered things I believe especially those beliefs that have been
imparted to me, something might happen. On the other hand, following these beliefs
would cost nothing and certainly nothing will be lost if you follow it.

I therefore commit to

In order to be safe, it must start on me, superstitious beliefs happen at a very minimal
time, sometimes coincidence. Not every superstitious belief must be followed, although
nothing is wrong following it. I need to be careful in everything that I do and be cautious
to avoid such things that might have happened to me similar to effects of the belief we
are following.

By this time, you are very much prepared to learn more about pseudo-scientific,
scientific study and history of Guidance.

ACTIVITY
Kalito Talaga…

Give a particular situation/incidence where you have found it difficult to decide to

whom you would be asking for assistance. (Example: A bullying classmate of yours….
Where will you go to…. Teacher, Counselor, Psychologist, or Social Worker?)

There was time in high school where I had a classmate with disability and since we are
all boys in the class, he was bullied many times. I tried asking my teacher for assistance
but there was still no effect and my classmates still kept on bullying him. As a concern
classmate, I reached out our guidance councilor as well as our principal and told them
regarding the ordeal my classmate was facing on. Immediate action has been done to
both the bullies and the bullied. Thank God because it was given an aid and if there was
no thorough action pulled then, my classmate would’ve suffered much from my
classmates’ actions and way of giving him remarks.

Where are you able to find the right person to go to? Explain your choice.
I did. Fortunately, an action has been done with the bullies and after the counselling, the
bullies have learned their lessons and was given a sanction as to where their way of
atoning themselves with what they have done.

Are you satisfied with your choice? Give your reasons.

Of course. Since we are in a public school then, the only way we could ask for
assistance was through either our teacher or the guidance counselor. Without them,
bullying will continue to flourish and a lot of students will be put at risk and has the
possibility to have a mental breakdown that may lead to low self-esteem, or worst,
suicide.

You finally did it, you already completed the first two tasks. Before you begin I
would like you to reflect on what you have done and experienced in your recent activity
because that is the key to moving forward. You can do that by completing each clause
below.

The activities above made me remember

To be responsible and help someone who needs it especially if he/she thinks that the
world is against him/her. Made that person realize he/she is special and be his/her
crying shoulder. Also, if you have seen someone being hurt by other people, you should
think for the right way to do to stop someone’s suffering. Approach the right person to
help the person who suffered so he/she can be helped and be provided the right
counselling on how to avoid all of this.

It made me think and realize that

Helping people is a win-win situation, helping one another even in a simple gesture
benefits you also. The essence of guidance is a very essential way to let students learn
and reflect from their mistakes and how their mistakes affect another people. Guidance
is a helpful way especially to victims of bullying, it helps them reinforce their confidence
and self-esteem and also giving them advices is a key to a healthy system.

I therefore commit to

Once I encountered a scene where someone is being hurt, I will immediately call
someone who has the authority to help that person who is hurting.

ABSTRACTION

Give instances or situations wherein one of the words you have learned today
was applied to assist a person in need.

Guidance where it can be applied to any individuals who experience emotional

problems that was caused by other people. Through guidance, these people who are
having a hard time dealing with this will be given an aid or somehow reinforcement so
that all the worse things that they feel may turn into something that is beautiful and
helpful to them.
