Theme 4 Week 1 Day 2

Morning Meeting- In the Gym

Greet the students and engage in conversation. Monitor, model, and redirect behaviors for the pledge,
activity, and Good Morning Chant.

The students stand outside of the class in “star”. Once released, the students will walk in, move their
name from home to school, pull out their folders, and place their back packs on their hook. The students
will then sit down for breakfast.

Breakfast in Class: The breakfast helper passes out breakfast to the students. The students should
engage in quiet appropriate conversation. Use this time to make learning applicable.

Morning Circle: 8:15


Morning Song to transition to Circle (Rise and Shine)

Unite: “Muffin Man” (p.189)

Tell the children that we will continue to learn about nutritious choices we can make. Today we will be
learning about nutritious choices.

Disengage: Pretzel Breathing. Explain that pretzels are made of flour and dough and grain. Ask the Star
Helper Student to choose a breathing method- STAR, Drain, Balloon, Bunny, or Pretzel. The students
always breathe 3 times.

Good Morning PreK-C Ritual- The students sing Good Morning PreK-C to each other, Ms.
Brown, and Ms. W.
Connect: We wish you well

“Hot Cross Buns”(P.189) Ask the children if they have ever touched bread fresh out of the oven. Teach
the children the hand pattern and then the rhyme.

Morning Message- Bread and tortillas are fine with butter.

Say the sentence. Right the first word explaining why it begins with an uppercase letter. Say the
word butter, emphasizing the beginning sound /B/. Identify the S and its sound. Have a
volunteer circle the letters f and b. Letter focus: f,B,b.

Sing the ABC chart.

Moving and Learning: 8:40


Discuss the Ingredients in cake.

play “Pat-a-Cake”. (P.197)


Listen to Rock-and Roll Pat-A-Cake (p.183) Have the children try new ways to pat-a-cake.

Commit: We say our commitments:

“Today, I will keep my eyes on the teacher.

Today, I will listen to my teacher and friends.

Today, I will use gentle touches.

Today, I will use walking feet in the classroom and in the school building.”

Schedule helper folds down breakfast, and circle time. The Greeter makes his/her commitment, puts
his/her center card in the center of choice, and stands just outside the carpet to greet the other
students. As students are called they put their commitment on the board quickly, high five the
greeter, and stand on a dot with a bubble in mouth.

Centers: 8:45
Tell the students; “In centers you need to use a quiet indoor voice. You do not leave a center or take
things out of the center. If you want to go to a new center, what do you need to do?” Students respond:
clean your center. “Remember your commitments boys and girls. Have a safe fun time, go in and enjoy
centers.”

Read Aloud 9:45


The Country Mouse and The City Mouse (P.203)
Tell children the title of the story and read the first paragraph. Ask: “what did the city mouse
see in the country?” “What did the mice eat in the country?” Continue reading. “What did
the mice eat in the city?” In the story, the mice have an abundant feast. What does this
mean? 

Schedule Helper changes the schedule.

Recess 10:00
Lunch: 10:30
During lunch promote healthy conversations with the students. Remind them to talk quietly
and be sure that they are eating. When they are finished they are to remain seated until Ms.
Brown says to line up.
Afternoon Circle: 11:00
Use the wiki stix to tell the story of Tillie the Triangle. Allow the children to fill the different
forms of Tillie in with pattern blocks. Discuss that when you add another side to make a
square there is room for more triangles. Pass out a slice of bread to each child and ask the
children what shape the bread is. Ask: “how we could cut the bread to make triangles”
discuss that we made a diagonal cut. Ask: “how can we cut the bread to make rectangles?”
Discuss that we made a horizontal cut.

Journal 11:20
The students will then transition to their sign in tables. The students will sign in and then
journal over what they have learned about nutritious choices. Journal: something nutritious.

Specials 11:45
“Today we are going to music with Ms. Grogan” Have students repeat her name. “In
Specials we use walking feet and quiet bodies to sit down, and we listen to the teacher” Review
lining up and walking in the halls. Have students relay steps back to you and ask responsive
questions. “How can we act in specials?” “etc?”
Walk students to specials, and remind them throughout how we are to act in specials

Remember we never call out a student negatively in public! Whisper it to the


individual child and publicly praise the behaviors that you want to see.

Display the story props. Tell the children that the hen works very hard throughout this story.
Encourage them to listen for words that tell what kind of work she does. Read the story,
encouraging children to chime in with the predictable answers from the characters. When
you finish the story, ask children about the work the little red hen did to get her grain
turned into bread. (Vocabulary words) ask a volunteer to share where their family gets bread
(grocery store, bakery, bake at home). Discuss the different forms of breads (buns, biscuits,
pita bread, tortillas) display the photo activity card #108.

Centers: 1:00
Tell the students; “In centers you need to use a quiet indoor voice. You do not leave a center or take
things out of the center. If you want to go to a new center, what do you need to do?” Students respond:
clean your center. “Remember your commitments boys and girls. Have a safe fun time, go in and enjoy
centers.”

Clean Up: 1:35

Play the clean-up song for the students. The students should stay in their center as they clean, keep a
quiet voice and use working hands. I will check the center monitor’s center first, and the center monitor
will help to check the remaining centers.
