SECTION I
PIANNING INFCRMATIGN

A. Effectivity:

Shaft Power Gas Turbine E n g i ~ Part No. 380084-1 (Model No. GTP30'5~), all
units prior to SarialNo. 23524, used on Fairchild F-27 aircraft.

B. Reason:

Modified combustion system to improve engine starting.

C. Description:

This bulletin provides the necessary information to modify the existing


units by replacement of component parts. Service Bulletin No. 49-1170, Fuel
Control Rework~ m~st be incorporated prior to or simultaneously with this
change.

D. Com~llauce:

Recommended.

E. Approval:

An estimated one man-hour is required to accomplish this change.

G. Material - Cost and Availability:

New parts required to accomplish this change by the customer will be


furnished by The Garrett Corporation, AIResearch Manufacturing Division,
PhoeniX, Arizona upon receipt of customer's no-charge purchase order.
QuantltSes supplied will be limited to customer's inventory of subject
units on ~ssue date of this bulletin. Removed parts shall be returned to
The Garrett Corporation, AiResearch Manufacturing Division, Phoenix,
Arizona°

Units returned to contractor's facility for repair aud/or overhaul will


receive the incorporation of this change without add/tional charge.

A. Partially disassemble engine as follows. (See figure i. )

(i) Disconnect fUel inlet lime (I) at atomizer assembly.

(2) Disconnect and remove Lead Assembly Part No. 76078-27 from igniter
plug and from ignition unit.

Remove and discard two Bolts Part No. AN~CSA, two Washers Part No.
AN960C416, and two Nuts Part No. M~20364-428C. Remove Igniter Plug
Part No. 75153 and Gasket Part No. 75099. Discard gasket.

(4) Remove fuel check valve (4, figure I) and packing (5) from atomizer
assembly. Discard packing.

(5) Remove coupling (6), then carefully ~-itharaw assembled atomizer assem~
bly, cap assembly, and liner assembly. Remove and discard Packing
Part No. $8171AV36.

(6) Remove three Bolts Part No. AN3CHSA and three Washers Part No.
AN960-1OL, Separate Atomizer Assembly Part No. 75076-33, Packing Part
No. S8057A20, Cap Assembly Part No. 373824, and Liner Assembly Part
No. 373606-1. Discard packing.

B. Reassemble parts on engine as follows. (See figure i. )


(1) Assemble new liner assembly ~(13), new cap assembly (12), new gasket
(11), aml new atomizer assembly (i0). Coat threads of bolts (8) with
Compound Part No. 219-090-9001. Check to make sure parts are oriented
correctly and secure with new washers (9) and new bolts (8). Tighten
bolts to a torque of 60 to 70 inch-pounds above friction torque.

(2) Obtain new packing (7) from stock and place on flange of cap assembly
(2).

(3) Install assembled parts in turbine plenum and secure with coupling (6).
Tighten coupling znAt to a torque of i0 to 20 inch-poum~s above friction
torque.

(4) Obtain new packing (5) from stock and install with fuel check valve
(4) in atomizer assembly.

Coat threads of new igniter plug (3) with Compound Part No. 219-090-
9001 aria install igniter plug in cap assembly (!2). Tighten igniter
plug~to a torque of lO0 to 120 inch-pounds above friction torque.

(6) Install new lead assembly (2) and connect to ignition unit and igniter
plug.

(7) Reconnect fuel inlet line (i).

C. Set acceleration llmiter cracking pressure as follows.

(1) Make sure control air line is connected to fUel control assembly.

(2) Disconnect fUel line (1, figure l) from atomizer assembly and connect a
pressure gage to open en~ of lime.

(3) Make sure fUel is supplied to fuel control.

(4) Use starter to rotate engine and record pressure reading of gage ino
stalled ca fUel line.

(5) Determine the percent of engine rotation in revolutions per minute.

(6) Compare recorded pressure with pressure corresponding to percent of


engine revolutions per minnte in figure 2.

(7) Adjust fUel control limiter valve if necessary. Turn llmiter valve
adjustment screw clockwise to increase and counterclockwise to decrease
cracking pressure.

(8) Remove pressure gage from fUel line and reconnect fUel line to atomizer
assembly.

D. Upon completion of this change, stamp ".6" adjacent to "MOD RECORD" on


engine ~dentification plate.
