Nicio The Teaching Profession

BSED – RE 2 Oct. 16, 2020

1. Explain your mission as a professional teacher by helping children become more human.
 My mission as a future professional teacher is to help children become more
humane. I can do this by not just teaching them the lessons in our subject, but also
the values they need to be more humane. Teaching is not just a job, it is a mission.
Our mission as future educators is to form our students to be more humane. The
letter of the student who was a victim of a concentration camp simply proves to us
that some teachers see teaching as a mere job and thus, they did not teach their
students to be more humane. According to the letter, learned engineers, educated
physicians, trained nurses and high school and college graduates have committed
acts of immorality which should not be the result of education. Education must
never produce immoral people like what the student wrote in the letter. Education
must produce good students who are humane and thus contribute something good
for the society. And this is only possible when we, teachers, see our teaching
profession not just as a job, but as a mission.
2. What mission has God given to teachers according to “The True Decalogue of Mabini”?
 According to the True Decalogue of Mabini, God has given to teachers the
following mission: to develop their special talents, to work and study according to
their capabilities, and to not stray from the path of good and justice. First, we must
develop our special talents. Teachers are unique from each other and each one have
different specialties. Thus, in order to be a better teacher, we must take time to
develop the talents God has given us for this will be useful for us to fulfill our
mission of teaching. Second, we must also work and study according to our
capabilities. We teachers should continuously work and study in order for us to
deliver the latest information to our students with regards to the subject matter.
Lastly, we must never go stray from the path of good and justice. As teachers, we
must always be in the right side always. Our students must never see any
wrongdoing of ours, although we have to admit that we are just humans who
commit mistakes. Nevertheless, it is a challenge for us teachers to be always in the
side of what is good and what is just. To conclude, we teachers must always live out
these three missions for us to be good and effective educators for our students.
3. Reflection: If you say “YES” to the call and mission to teach in this life, reflect on how
you are going to prepare yourself on becoming a TEACHER.
 Preparing to be a teacher in the future is not going to be easy for me. I still have a
lot of doubts about myself being a teacher in the future. Many insecurities arise
from within me. I always question myself if I will be an effective teacher or not in
the future. All these things scares and pressures me a lot. Nevertheless, I still
continue preparing myself as a future Christian Formation teacher by doing three
things: prayer, study, and perseverance. First is prayer. I always pray to God that He
will guide me in my journey of being an educator in the future. I always experience
His guidance every time I work on my academics. Second is study. I keep on
learning new things about being a teacher and also about the Christian Formation
subjects. In fact, I read eBooks and watch documentaries to enhance my learning
outside school. Third and last is perseverance. I always try my best to do anything
and not easily give up. The value of persevering is very essential for teachers since
they should not easily give up on their hard-headed students, rather they must
maximize their effort. These three things help me prepare myself in becoming a
teacher.
