READING IN A TECHNOLOGY ERA
VIDEO SCRIPT
Video introduction (Picture of a school library)
VOICEOVER:
As a new educator, I am currently charged
with a task that many parents and teachers
have faced for centuries. *Suspenseful
music* Teaching students how to read. A
task, that like many other things, has
been replaced by the technology takeover.
Visual (Pictures of a cell phone, computer, laptop, and
gaming system)
VOICEOVER:
Can you remember as a child, getting a
library book or attending your school
bookfair? What about memories of reading
your favorite book or even the author you
could not wait to release another novel?
Visual (Clip of a book signing)
VOICEOVER:
While these past times engaged previous
generations of readers, in today’s
education society, we as educators must
embrace the technological advancements
that have been developed to enhance the
learning experience while being very
careful to add some differentiation in the
ways it is used.
Pause for transition (Insert medium speed music)
VOICEOVER:
When thinking of reading in a technology
era, many minds may go to popular devices
and applications such as Kindle (insert
picture of Amazon Kindle), Google Play
Books for android users (insert photo of
google play books) or any other e-book
application.

VOICEOVER:
But there are many other, classroom
friendly, sites and applications that can
be used to engage young readers, track
their progress, and allow them to explore
topics of their interest while staying on
their reading level.
Move to video of Epic Books
VOICEOVER:
While bookfairs and library trips may not be what we
remember, websites such as Epic Books, Storyline Online, and
the infamous Scholastic Books (show picture of a scholastic
book fair) have allowed for teachers to teach reading (a
multifaceted task) and engage learners.

platforms.)
