Part A
(Answer any two questions: 9 x 2 = 18 Marks)
No Marks
1. I/O parallelism is one of the techniques used in Parallel Database Systems and 3
partitioning of data is the primary method to implement it. Discuss various
partitioning techniques and compare them. Also discuss the techniques to handle 6
skew which appears as a consequence of partitioning data.

2. Advanced data types and information retrieval techniques are essential to satisfy 9
today’s computing needs. Are currently available databases ready for that? Give your
answer

3. Briefly explain different methods of concurrency control in distributed database 9

systems
Part B
(Answer any two questions: 9 x 2 = 18 Marks)
4. a) Object oriented programming languages work well with object oriented 4
databases. Express your views on this statement
b) List the object relational features implemented in SQL/ Oracle 5

5. a. Discuss the different ways through which we can incorporate Object Oriented 9
concepts into RDBMS
b. Write short notes on the following
i. Object Structure
ii. Object identity and pointers

6 Explain the methods used in advanced databases to store and retrieve audios
effectively 9

Part C
(Answer any two questions: 12x 2 = 24 Marks)
7. Explain with neat diagram
a) How a call is processed in mobile communication 6
b) How the system performs the location management 6

8. Location dependent data is the prime factor that must be considered while processing 12
data in mobile communication. State the reasons of the above statement and how this
matter is effectively managed in mobile communication

9. List and explain transaction commit protocols in mobile database systems 12
