Oil Pressure Is Low


SMCS - 1348-035-PX

Use this procedure to troubleshoot low engine oil pressure. Also, use this procedure if one of the following
event codes is active or logged.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results

1. Check for Codes Codes Result: An associated code is


active.
A. Connect Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) to
the service tool connector. Repair: Troubleshoot any
associated codes before continuing
B. Look for active codes that are associated with this test.

Proceed to Test Step 2.

If the problem is not resolved,


proceed to Test Step 9.

Result: A valve was not stuck.

Proceed to Test Step 10.


9. Inspect the Valves
Result: A valve was stuck.
A. Inspect the following:

Repair: Repair or replace the

If the problem is not resolved,
proceed to Test Step 10.

Result: There was no debris in or


damage to the oil filter.

Proceed to Test Step 11.


10. Check the oil filter condition
Result: There was debris in or

If the problem is not resolved,


proceed to Test Step 11.

11. Check for Worn Engine Components Damaged or Result: Excessive clearance was

A. Check for excessive clearance for the Components
following: Repair: Replace the worn engine
components.
- Oil pump gears
- Camshaft bearings
- Crankshaft bearings
- Rocker arm to rocker arm shaft

If the procedure did not correct the issue, contact your Cat dealer Technical Communicator (TC). For
further assistance, your TC can confer with the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN).
