IA is looking to expand its international routes to cities like Istanbul and London to boost profits from its current 15% of international capacity. It plans to switch from the Airbus A320 to the more fuel efficient and higher capacity A321neo, which can accommodate 244 seats compared to the A320's 165. This switch would reduce fuel consumption by 15% per aircraft and decrease operating costs by 8% by allowing longer haul flights with fewer take-offs and landings.

CURRENT SCENARIO
Some of the recent decisions taken by IA are as follows:
1) International Presence: operates daily flights to Dubai, Singapore and Katmandu. However, the airlines operate about 15% of its capacity internationally. By launching more international flights in European cities, it strives to boost its net profit margin. Airlines plans on adding international routes to Istanbul, London and other major cities. 2) Switch from A320 to A321neo ● Achieve Fuel Efficiency: By switching from A320 to A321neo, airline can operate long haul flights. Moreover, A321neo are more fuel efficient, thus helping to reduce the fuel consumption by 15% per aircraft. ● Achieve Higher seating capacity: A321neo is broader than A320. The seating capacity of A321neo is 244 seats in comparison to A320 which had a seat capacity of 165. This increase in seating capacity would make this aircraft perfect for routes that have a lot of traffic and demand. ● Decrease in operating costs: By operating more long-haul flights, expects its operating costs to go down by 8%. This can be attributed to the decrease in fuel expenses, lower airport take-off and landing fees due to operation of fewer flights with higher seating capacity etc.
