LITERATURE REVIEW

Information Technology (IT) Sector:

The industry consists of two major components namely IT service and Business Process
Outsourcing (BPO). The contribution originating from the sector to India’s GDP has vastly risen
from 1.2% in 1998 to 7.7 % in 2017. The sector currently employs $.36 million people. The IT
industry started in the year 1967 in Mumbai with Tata Consultancy services. Major contributions
to the current industry are led by Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies etc. Recent
data suggest the sector has aggregated revenues in total of $180 Billion in 2019 with India now
the largest exporter of IT services constituting around 79% of total revenues. The domestic
market has already been experiencing surge in progress and is expected to increase at a rapid
scale.

Mindfulness:

Mindfulness is bringing in awareness and attention to experiences at each moment with


acceptance and without judgement (Kabat-Zinn, 1994). This involves the person engaging in
daily activity and experiencing each moment actively to the fullest with acceptance and kindness
towards self and others. Although the roots of Mindfulness are associated with Buddhism, every
religion has some kind of meditation or prayer techniques which guides you from your
preoccupations and to focus on appreciating the present moment and understanding the larger
meaning of life.

Practicing mindfulness has proven benefits associated with both body and mind. It helps attain
appreciating changes to one’s attitude, behavior and personal well-being. Improving the capacity
of mindfulness can further lead to a more positive and satisfied life. It takes away the stress of
daily life and instead allows the person to focus on enjoying the current task at hand. It takes
away the anxiety from thinking about future or regrets over the past and brings about a change
for the better in the person to deal with the current situation with zeal and often brings out a
positive self at the work-place resulting in good understanding and bonding with colleagues.
Mindfulness has an overall impact on the physical, personal and mental life of a person and
makes him stronger to deal with the circumstances and come out with strong results.
