Answer the following questions.

Q.No.1: Suppose you are being hired as a senior network engineer in an enterprise level software
company named XYZ Pvt. Limited. XYZ Company has different departments like Digital Forensic Lab,
Computer Lab, and Electronics Lab etc. Now, top management of company wants to establish a link
between Digital Forensic lab and Computer lab so that they can access PC’s, share information and
resources with each other. (8 Marks)

 List down all necessary network software or network hardware equipment required?
Answer:

Necessary network software or network hardware equipment are:

The hardware basics that you need for a simple network include a network adapter card or
PC card, a network router or switch, and cabling. If each of your PCs will be running any
version of Windows 98 or later, you have all the operating system software you need for a
home network.

Network Cables
Network cables are the transmission media to transfer data from one device to another. A
commonly used network cable is category 5 cable with RJ – 45 connector
Routers
A router is a connecting device that transfers data packets between different computer networks.
Repeaters, Hubs, and Switches
A repeater receives a signal and regenerates it before re-transmitting so that it can travel longer
distances.
A hub is a multiport repeater having several input/output ports, so that input at any port is available
at every other port.
A switch receives data from a port, uses packet switching to resolve the destination device and then
forwards the data to the particular destination, rather than broadcasting it as a hub.

Bridges
A bridge connects two separate Ethernet network segments. It forwards packets from the source
network to the destined network.

Gateways
A gateway connects entirely different networks that work upon different protocols. It is the entry
and the exit point of a network and controls access to other networks.

 Suggest the prefer network structure with respect to resources sharing?

Answer:

Star topology
In Start Topology, all the computers are connected to the central located device called as hub. All
the devices on the network are connected with a hub device through a communication link. Each
computer requires a single wire for the connection to the hub.

 Which network protocols are preferred for communication?

Answer:

TCP and UDP

The main difference between the two protocols is that TCP uses a connection-oriented transport,
while UDP uses a connectionless type of communication.

Q.No.2. Identify the topology used in the diagram given below. What are the salient features of this
topology? Also mention its advantages and disadvantages. Also Compare coaxial cable and fiber
optic cable according to speed, security and size? (10 Marks)

Answer:

Star topology
In Start Topology, all the computers are connected to the central located device called as hub. All
the devices on the network are connected with a hub device through a communication link. Each
computer requires a single wire for the connection to the hub.

Salient Features:

 High Speed
 Very Flexible
 High Reliability
 High Maintainability

Advantages:

1. Easy to manage and maintain the network because each node require separate cable.
2. Easy to locate problems because cable failure only affect a single user.
3. Easy to extend the network without disturbing to the entire network
4. Due to Hub device network control and management is much easier.
5. Fault identification and removing nodes in a network is easy.
6. It provides very high speed of data transfer.

Disadvantages:

1. Entire performance of the network depends on the single device hub.

2. If the hub device goes down, the entire network will be dead.
3. Star topology requires more wires compared to the ring and bus topology.

Difference between Coaxial and fiber optics

affect the fiber optics

 External magnetic field affects the coaxial cable

Size:
 Fiber optics composed of Glass and plastics

 Coaxial cable composed of Plastic, metal foil and metal wire (usually copper).

 Fiber optics light in weight

 Coaxial cable is comparatively heavier

Q.No.3. Write formulas for the operations based on the spreadsheet given below along with the
relevant cell address: (Marks 10)

a. Calculate the total no of teams participated in Asian games and display it in cell B8?

Answer:
Click the Cell (B8) and write the formula there
=count(A2:A7)
b. Calculate the lowest score from round 1 then display it in cell B9 and highest score from
round 2 in cell C9?

Answer:
Click on Cell (B9) and write the formula
=min(B2:B7)
Click on Cell (C9) and write the formula
=max(C2:C7)

c. Calculate the total sum of round 1 then display it in cell D8 and sum of round 2 in cell D9 and
find the average of both cells in D7 & D6?

Answer:
Click on Cell (D8) and write the formula
=Sum(B2:B7)
Click on Cell (D9) and write the formula
=Sum(C2:C7)
Click on Cell (D7) and write the formula
=average(D8:D9)
Click on Cell (D6) and write the formula
=average(D8:D9)

d. How many data formats are available in Excel? Name of them.

Answer:
There are 11 types of Data Formats available in Excel
 Number
 Currency
 Accounting
 Date
 Time
 Percentage
 Fraction
 Scientific
 Text
 Special
 Custom

e. What is the benefit of using formula in Excel sheet?

Answer:
Excel's main function is to interlink cells, through the use of formulas, so that the formula cell
changes when data is inputted into linked cells. The best way to store information in spreadsheets
is through the use of formulas.
