Name - Nikhil Kumar Singh

Subject - Mine Planning

Q1. Explain in detail how to prepare a feasibility report for a 50 MTe

mineable coal. Consider all the parameters.

Ans. In order to prepare a feasibility report for a 50MTe Coal Project, we

need to assume a large amount of data,
Below is a basic model of a feasibility report prepared on basis of reserve.

1) Title Page: The title page will contain the name of the project,
the location of the project, capacity, project area, proposed mining
lease area. Date of submission, Name and address of submitting
organisation and name of the organisation that prepared the FR.
2) Contents and List of Tables: this page will contain the contents
of the FR.
3) Introduction: This section will contain the
- aim of the project,
- details of the project proponent,
- brief description of nature of project,
- need for the project and its importance to the country or region,
- Demand-supply gap
- Imports ,exports and indigenous production,
- Employement generation(Direct and Indirect).
4) Project Description : This section will include:
- the type of project(ie Coal Mining) including the interlinked and
interdependent projects,
- Location with co-ordinates,
- Project description with process details
- Mining method to be used(ie UG or OC)
- Raw material required along with estimated quantity, likely
source, marketing area of final product’s mode of transport of
raw material and finished product
- Resource optimization/ recycling and reuse,
- Availability of water its source and Energy/Power requirement
source,
- Quantity of wastes to be generated (liquid and solid) and
scheme for their management /disposal,

5) Site Analysis: this section will contain details of:

- Connectivity
- Land form, land use and land ownership,
- Topography,
- Proposed Infrastructure,
- Soil classification,
- Climatic data (Rainfall and Climate) from secondary sources,
- Social infrastructure available
6) Planning brief
- Planning concept
- Project Duration(Mine Life) : Since the project is of 50Mte
Coal reserve , so the duration of the project will depend upon
the method used (ug/oc) and extent of mechanisation For the
initial years the production will be slow(ie during development
stage), but eventually the production will increase as the
mine will get exploited and may reach upto a few million
tonnes per yr
- Population projection
- Land use planning (break up along with green belt etc.)
- Assessment of infrastructure demand (physical and social)
- Amenities / facilities
7) Proposed Infrastructure: This section will contain details of :
- Industrial area (processing area)
- Residential area (non processing area)
- Green belt
- Social infrastructure
- Connectivity
- Drinking water management (source and supply of water)
- Sewerage system and Industrial waste management
- Solid waste management
- Power requirement and supply / source
8) Rehabilation and resettlement plan
9) Project schedule and cost estimates
10) Analysis of Proposal and final recommendations
