TASK 32-51-00-720-003-A
Functional Test of the Nose Wheel Steering with the Handwheel
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES ARE
CLEAR BEFORE YOU PRESSURIZE/DEPRESSURIZE A HYDRAULIC SYSTEM.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING
GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS
POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES ARE
CLEAR BEFORE YOU PRESSURIZE/DEPRESSURIZE A HYDRAULIC SYSTEM.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL
MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU START THE NOSE WHEEL STEERING TEST, MAKE SURE THAT NO BOARD-
ING BRIDGES ARE CONNECTED TO THE PASSENGER/CREW DOORS. IF A BOARDING
BRIDGE IS CONNECTED, DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE AIRCRAFT.

B. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons that both thrust reverser control levers are
not operational.
(2) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position in the cockpit to tell persons that circuit breakers 2EN1 and
2EN2 are open.
NOTE: The open status of circuit breakers 2EN1 and 2EN2 makes the engine thrust reversers unser-
viceable.

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002) .
(2) If the test is to be done with the nose wheels on the ground, do these steps:
NOTE: You will need two PLATE 1.2 M (4 FT) - STEEL, SQUARED.
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/
O 12-22-00-00) .
(c) Put the other steel plate on the top of the greased steel plate.
(d) Make sure that the nose wheels are in the center of the top test plate.
(e) Move the aircraft and position the nose wheels on the greased steel plates (Ref. AMM TASK 09-
10-00-584-002) .
(3) If the test is to be done with the nose wheels clear of the ground do this:
(a) Lift the nose gear (Ref. AMM TASK 07-12-00-582-001) .
NOTE: Use only a compact axle jack to lift the nose gear.
(4) On the nose gear leg, on the electrical box, make sure that the towing lever is in the normal position
(engaged position).
(5) On the panel 400VU, make sure that the landing gear control lever is in the DOWN position.
(6) On the panel 402VU, make sure that the ANTI SKID NOSE WHEEL switch is in the ON position.
(7) Do the EIS start procedure (Upper ECAM DU and lower ECAM DU only)
(Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001) .
(8) On the ECAM control panel, push the WHEEL pushbutton switch.
(9) Make sure that the rudder pedals and the two nose-wheel steering handwheels are in the neutral
position.
