1. Introduction
Southeast University (SEU) is a non-profit private higher education institution located in Banani,
Dhaka, Bangladesh. [See Appendix A*] It is one of the renowned university in Bangladesh. The

permanent campus of the university is in 251/A & 252, Tejgaon Industrial Area, Dhaka-1208,
Bangladesh. SEU has been ranked 11th among the private universities based on Perceptual score
in Dhaka Tribune's 2017 Private University Ranking.

The duty of SEU is to provide higher education to students of Bangladesh at a reasonable cost,
keeping in view the challenges of the coming future. And this assignment could be achieved by
imparting world class education and providing research facilities so that the students can get
their full intellectual, social and personal abilities. The university is dedicated to develop human
capital by educating creative thinking in individuals and the university also offers education
through both campus and ICT-based online modes of teaching.

To provide higher education at an affordable cost, keeping in view the economic conditions of
the middle and lower middle income families in Bangladesh. Toward impart world class
education. Provide research facilities so that the students can develop their full intellectual,
social and personal potentials. Knowledge, skills and abilities to transform human resource into
human capital. Inculcate moral and ethical values among students & prepare students to meet the
challenges of the future.

1.1. Administration & History

The president of Bangladesh is the honorable chancellor of the university. The university is run
by a number of legal bodies as required under the requirements of the Private University Act,
1992 known as Southeast University Trust. Southeast University (SEU) was established in June
2002 as a private university under the Private University Act 1992.

1.2.4. School of Science & Engineering

The diversity of Electrical and Electronic Engineering education is also increasing underscoring
its multi-disciplinary nature. In this aspect, Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE)
education has entered a transitional phase because the technology is changing every day. All the
areas of the electrical and electronic engineering are growing very fast and new fascinating
disciplines of this subject are being created. Thus role of and Electrical and Electronic Engineer
has changed significantly. Engineer with excellent communication skills along with skills of
multi-disciplinary engineering now a day’s employer’s demand. The curriculum of the EEE
Department has been designed as such way. The main focus of the EEE Department curriculum

is on four major areas- power and energy, electronics, communication and computer in the
undergraduate curricula.

Student is expected to specialize in one of these groups without compromising the fundamental
knowledge in EEE. Courses in basic science, mathematics, relevant branch of Engineering
including laboratory experience in the use of modern equipment for measurement and design.
Education is the humanities, social sciences, ethical principles and management, with special
attention to the development of effective written and oral communication skills. Technical
Elective coursework that encourages individual interests and provides the opportunity to gain
further knowledge in multiple disciplines facilitates the development of problem solving,
teamwork, and engineering design skills with the aid of tools, such as, the computer.

Southeast University has targeted curriculum will prepare graduates to compete in the high-tech
job market on a global scale. In addition to the foreign job opportunities, graduates can avail job
opportunities at home, both in public and private sector in the diversified areas, such as,
Electrical Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Sub-Station Design Firms,
Telecommunication
Industry, Wireless and Mobile Telecommunication Companies, Satellite Communication
Systems, Integrated Circuit (IC) Design, Satellite Television
Channels, Telecommunication Switching Systems, Wired and Wireless
Networking, Consumer Electronics Appliance Manufacturer, Process Industries, Textile
Industries, Computer Industry, Electrical and Electronic Design Firms, Microprocessor and
Microcontroller Based Systems, Real Estate Sectors, etc.

1.2.5. School of Business Studies

Southeast University started journey with only one department under its authority namely, the
Department of Business Administration. The business studies academic activities since the
inception of Southeast University. The Southeast Business School is the prime academic unit
where student enrollment began in this university. Business education goes a long way in
preparing generations of youths to face the challenges of time and to build up a happy and
prosperous nation.

The necessity of and the ever-increasing demand for updated specialized education have made
philosophers, social scientists, educationists and entrepreneurs think of doing something positive
in this regard. To ensure that future generations of students assimilate the advancements in every

field of knowledge especially, the business education and are able to utilize it for the betterment
of the country.

1.2.6. School of Arts and Social Science

In continuous quest for quality human resources Southeast University has go on board on
launching its Arts and Social Science program. The program aims to enhance the skills,
competence, confidence and vision of the graduates as development practitioners. The program
is thus designed with a multidisciplinary curriculum to meet the needs of the development
practitioners and the corporate executives to improve and enrich their knowledge base.
Dissimilar several other private universities, SEU has kept the fees at significantly lower levels
in order to keep the program within the reach of the most mid-level officials of development
organizations of the country. The program envisages graduates who will have the following
competencies after completion of the program:

 Conceiving, writing, and presenting research proposals and apply for grants.
 Ability to understand, explain, and make real contribution to development projects as a
team player
 Ability to take on administrative responsibility in a development organization.

2.1. Admission

The candidate must have some specific criteria comply to admit into the university. There are
undergraduate programs, Masters, Foreign student and all the relevant information available in
the admission office.

Foreign Students particularly who come from other systems the admission eligibility for specific
criteria.

An equivalence committee will assess and recommend for satisfactory grade for the applicants
who seek admission in SEU for foreign students and the students from other systems.

2.2. Research & Training

For develop, maintain, and sustain an overall knowledge of the university’s core research areas
of attention and competence. Over a period time, these core areas should be expanded to include
new areas reflecting the nature of growth of the university.

Conduct regular periodic meetings with ambitious faculty members & researchers of all
academic areas and maintain regular interaction with them to assist them in developing their own
research programs.

Supervise a reviewing committee trusted with annually or semi-annually reviewing research


proposals submitted for funding from university fund allocated exclusively for research. This
task will focus intensely on identifying valuable, knowledge enhancing projects which will most
likely make a significant contribution in the specific area of interest.

2.3. Library

Southeast University have central library as well as individual program/division have cluster
library. The library equipped with books on the academic programs offered as well as on
research and extracurricular activities. The total collection of books and journals at is about
15000. The space area of the library is 6,500 square feet. It is a central library of the university
representation services to the students and faculty. [See Appendix C for library logo]

2.4. Term and Grading

Southeast University is follow on the North American Open Credit system. It maintains tri-
semester (term) year with the exception of the Department of Pharmacy which maintains a bi-
semester year. Southeast University semester timeline is as follow:

Spring: January - April (starting on the second Sunday of January)


Summer: May - August (starting on the second Sunday of May)
Fall: September - December (starting on the second Sunday of September)

Letter grades indicating the quality of course work completed are interpreted as follows:

2.5. Scholarship

Southeast University offers partial to full tuition fee waiver based on exceptional HSC or A-
Level result. The result based waiver is not applicable if break of study of the student. Each
semester the most top graded students from every department based on semester GPA gets
partial financial assistance. Limited need based financial assistance program is available for
students with more than 3.00 semester GPA. Children of Freedom Fighters are eligible for full
tuition waiver & it remains valid in the subsequent semesters if the semester result is within the
mentioned requirement.

2.6. Associations and membership

Southeast University has international relations and affiliations with other associations and
universities around the world. SEU has international collaboration & signed with these
universities:

2.7. Code of Contact

This Code of Conduct is formulated to provide a guideline to the students regarding their
behavior and personal conduct. Students are expected to comply with the requirements set in this
Code of Conduct. Violation of this conduct shall invoke disciplinary process as outlined of Code
of Conduct publish document from Southeast University.

With a view to ensuring the general ethical responsibilities and obligations of all the students
towards their class-mates, friends, teachers, officers, seniors, juniors & staff of the
University the following have been adopted as the prescribed Code of Conduct for the students.

2.8. Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)

Southeast University has recently launched Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), a strong
body formulated to maintain and supervise the quality parameters in the University. To ensure
continuous improvement in the entire operations of the University.

To ensure continuous improvement in the entire operations of the University in general and
quality of teaching in particular and to ensure stakeholders connected with higher education

namely parents, teachers, staff, would be employers, funding agencies and society in general, of
its own quality and probity.

To a heightened level of clarity and focus in institutional functioning towards quality


enhancement and integration of the quality culture for quality and excellence in higher
education. The enhancement and integration among the various activities of the institution many
good practices. To provide a sound basis for decision making to improve institutional
functioning act as a change agent in the university & better internal communication.

3.1. Recommendations

To ensure quality of education as well as continuous improvement ensuring timely, efficient and
progressive performance of academic tasks. The relevance and quality of academic and research
programs, equitable access to and affordability of academic programs for various sections of
society.

Optimization and integration of modern methods of teaching and learning the credibility of
evaluation procedures ensuring the adequacy, maintenance and functioning of the support
structure and services research sharing and networking with other institutions in Bangladesh and
abroad.
