CONNECTING TO ZOOM

BREAKOUT ROOMS
-We will use these during class in order to practice in pairs or small groups;
you’ll receive an invitation asking to “join the breakout room.’

-Your instructor may “pop in” to your breakout room to listen in, just like
we “listen in” during class when rotating the room; just keep practicing Option+Y: Raise hand/lower hand
and don’t let us interrupt you ;)
Command(⌘)+Shift+V: Start/stop video
-When your instructor is ready to close the breakout rooms, you’ll get a 1-
minute warning; no need to rush back, but start wrapping up your Space: Push to talk (when muted)
conversations. After 1 minute, you’ll automatically be sent back to the main
session; you can also click ‘leave breakout room’ to go back. Command(⌘)+J: Join Meeting
NOTE: Chat does not work during breakout rooms. If your teacher needs
to communicate with you, they will “broadcast” a message, which will pop
up on your screen briefly while in a breakout room.
Try turning your video on and off; if you don’t see the meeting ID at the top of the screen (206-775-
VIDEO NOT WORKING 3050) but rather it just says ‘connecting’, you might be having connectivity issues; try leaving the
meeting and connecting again.
Make sure your device’s sound is turned up, and not on mute. If you are using headphones, try
AUDIO NOT WORKING disconnecting them and see if the audio works; if it does, you’ll need to go into settings are switch
the input audio.
CANT Select “side by side view” (as explained in ‘view options’) and click ‘gallery mode’ so that you have
SEE the packet on one side of your screen and the gallery of students on the other side.
PACKET
Make sure you are not in full screen mode, then click ’participants’ at the bottom of

NON-VERBAL FEEDBACK you will see several of the buttons there. There is also a button that says more (or
BUTTONS three dots) where you can find additional feedback options.
When all else fails, try disconnecting from the meeting, and entering again. You could also try entering with a different
device, i.e. mobile phone instead of computer. As a last resort, feel free to call me (Amanda) if you are in class with a
different instructor and I will try to help troubleshoot. (206) 818-3256.
Please remember that as you are learning how to use this platform, so are your instructors ;)
if something isn’t working right, try not to take your frustration out on your teacher; if that
doesn’t help, do your best to get through class, and see if you and your teacher can solve
