OBJECTIVE:
To understand the use of different types of timers available in PLCs.

Hardware Requirement
 Personal Computer with PLC software
 PLC trainer with I/O modules

Theory
1.1 Introduction:
Timers are used to operate an output for a certain time or wait a certain time before
operating an output

FunctionBlock Operand
Tn: Timer Number.
PV: Preset value of the timer.

2 TASKS
2.1 TASK 1: A motor (M) must be operated after 30 sec when a Start
Push-button (PB1) is pressed.

Ladder Logic

2.2 TASK 2: A motor (M1) must be operated after 30 sec when a Start
Push-button (PB1) is pressed. Another motor (M2) must be operated
30sec after the first motor (M1) is started. 30sec after motor (M2) is
started, motor (M1) must be stopped and 30sec after motor (M1) is
stopped, motor (M2) must be stopped.

I. Open-Ended Task
2.3 The microwave is to be set for high for 1:30 (one minute, thirty
seconds) to cook my oat meal. The oat meal sometimes boils and
bubbles out of the bowl if left on continuously for 1:30 but the time is
to be held at 1:30. Design a control circuit to guarantee 1:30
cooking time with no over-flow mess. Use sensors as needed and a
start button and ready light to complete the control scheme. Design
a function/state – signal assignment table to accompany your
program.
