Wright Book Cards
Wright Book Cards
This book is a children's picture book that is repetitive in language as a great beginning reading book.
The narrator ask the author what animal sees throughout the story passing it to each animal as the story
continues. Great for teaching colors, animals, and basic reading.
Have students make a classbook of what they see in the classroom to practice tier 1
vocabulary and their sight words
Wonder
This book is about a child with a facial abnormality who leaves homeschooling for regular school. This
book teaches students about acceptance and compassion for people who are different than themselves.
This book is about kindness towards others. I think as a class we should have
meaningful discussion on what it means to be kind and lead a school campaign to
choose kindness. I want the students to self reflect and generate a way that they have
chosen kindness over the course of the school year.
Wonder
This is a book about a boy named Jordan Banks from Washington Heights who experienced culture shock
when he attends a private school in riverdale new york. This book is a coming of age story that also
grapels with racism, economic class, and acceptance.
Have students create a graphic organizator with a shape of them to color in the middle
and surround it with what makes up their identity
Wonder
This is a classic story about 3 little pigs who build 3 homes when they left their childhood home. They
each build a straw house, wood house, and brick house. Their happy homes are quickly under attack by
the big bad wolf who is hungry for comes for a pig snack. Will all the houses be able to stand up to the
wolf's powerful blow?
Cause and effect, chronological order, Setting
This book is great for teaching chronological order. I would have students order the
events in a flow chart and present their flow chart using transition words in small
groups.
Thank you, Mr. Falker
The story of a little girl whose life is changed due to a wonderful teacher. After years of not
understanding how to read and flying under teachers radar Mr. Falker recognizes the little girl's struggle
reading and finally gives the her the help and attention she needs changing her life forever.
I would use this for an sel lesson to build growth mindset. I would have a discussion
with my students on was their ever a time they felt dumb or lost. I would then transition
after the class disscussion to goal setting to generate the idea that is not about being the
best its about getting better ourselves. They would set a goal for their next unit on what
they will achieve and how they plan to achieve it
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning

lifetime. He must he must prevent a feud among the Olympians from erupting into a devastating war on Earth, and rescue his
mother from the clutches of Hades, god of the underworld.
Allusions are woven through the book in relation to greek mythology. I want students to
close read a chapter and identity what allusions they find to greek mythology. They will
then mark with post its next to the highlighted portion what that conveys about the
story. Then as a class discuss what allusions add to the chapter.
The Diary of Anne Frank*
Novel, Autobiography
Isolation, World War II
The real diary of a jewish teenage girl named Anne Frank who was in hiding with her family when the
Nazi's occupied Holland. This diary serves as a primary source unfiltered look at the obstacles and life of
jewish people during world war 2.
I would have students practice writing their own diary entries for a week to practice
imagery, creating a setting and writing stories from a first person POV.
ROAR! Big Cats
nonfiction
ROAR! Big Cats explores the lives of wild lions, tigers, jaguars, and more geared towards early readers

given additional resources on the specific big cat, and will complete a graphic organizer.
I Have Two Homes
A picture book from a child's perspective on what it’s like to grow up with divorced parents.
I want to have a discussion with my students about their home life for SEL lesson, but
after i want to use this to generate an inclusive classroom community. I will have
students do a project of creating their family tree and presenting it to their class. This
will help me get to know my students and well as help them get to know each other.
Vote For Our Future!
A picture book that tells the story of children from Stanton Elementary School who come up with ways to
participate and help with election day. This story goes through what election day is, why it is important,
reasons why people do not vote and what happens after election day.
There is a lot of persuasion in this piece. I would want students to practice writing
persuasive pieces on why voting is important to share with their family.
Perimeter, Area, and Volume: A Monster Book of
Dimensions
A picture book about monsters who go to the movies who use their math knowledge to calculate area,
perimeter and volume of different object in their movie theatre.
I would have students generate definitions for the math vocabulary in the book. I would
also have students solve the math problems the books presents as a way of engaging
with the math material with real life examples.
5 Wild Creature Adventures! (Wild Kratts) (Step into
Reading)
The wild Kratt Brothers have created and executive produced more than 200 episodes of 4 successful television
series: Kratts' Creatures, Zoboomafoo with the Kratt Brothers, Kratt Brothers: Be The Creature, and Wild Kratts. This
book centers around them as characters on adventures to learning about many different kinds of animals. This book is
an easier reader aimed at children 4-6 to engage them in story as a way of science education.
chapters, illustrations, dialogue
I would have students create a class animal books. Since the book is broken up into
chapters each group can pick a chapter to choose from and each take animal to share
what they learned about. Each page will have the same frame work of "This is a
_______. I learned that".
What is a Refugee
This is a social justice issue so it must talk about opinions on refugees. Students will
engage in a dialogue of if we feel we should welcome refugees into the United States
why or why not. They will also talk in small groups and present ways we can help
refugees.

setting, illustrations
This book tells the story of the american revolution during the time period of the
american revolution. Students will begin to study different points of view around this
time period by writing from the perspective of a character that isn’t Felicity.
Same, Same but Different
Pen pals Elliot from America and Kailash from India begin to discover their similarities and differences.
I think this is an option for reading buddies to get to know each other. I will pair my
students up with each other to write letters back and forth to exchange each friday. i
would also teach them how to properly write a letter for this assignment. This will be a
class pen pal system to build a positive classroom community and well as practice
practical writing skills.
Wanted!*
Alice Robie's father has been murdered, and the police have an e-mail message in which Alice confesses to
the crime. When her own mother suspects her, Alice has no choice... see all. When her own mother suspects
her, Alice has no choice but to flee in the hope of proving her innocence and clearing her name
This book is very engaging due to the ongoing mystery throughout. I suggest having this
in a middle school classroom for book club since it is so engaging and puzzling. After
each chapter students can begin to posite theories and generate using evidence from the
text to defend their arguments. This will allow for practice of accountable debate talk
and generating arguments based on the text.
Pete the Cat 12-Book Phonics Fun!: Includes 12
Mini-Books Featuring Short and Long Vowel Sounds
(My First I Can Read)
Picture book, 12 book series
Phonics
Phonics teaches children the relationship between letters and the sounds they make. A child who has
mastered these relationships has an excellent foundation for learning to read and spell.
This book would be great for kindergarten as they first learn sight words and reading.
Read this as a class Having students identify sight words and they go and practice their
powers (sound power picture power etc.) to practice and teach these reading skills. This
is especially important to teach decoding and helping find meaning to unfamiliar words
Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History
Based on her popular Instagram posts, debut author/illustrator Vashti Harrison shares the stories of 40 bold
African American women who shaped history.
I think this is a great opportunity for students to research a person of importance to them
and write an essay (similar to how the book did) about that person, their biography.
