Question No (1)
Explain the waste management system of your area with the following guidelines:
 Types of waste collected in your area
 System of waste collection
 Areas of improvement

Answer:
In my area, the waste is collected by donkey carts. The trash-collectors reach at the door step of
each house and collect the waste material. In the meantime, they extract the waste and save the
recyclable material in a different special plastic bag.
Approximately 75 percent to 80 percent of waste composed of: household waste such as kitchen
waste, vegetables & fruit, remaining cocked food etc.
The waste is disposed of at a nearby dumping site in our area *Ghazali Park* then the waste is
again separated at the dumping site. The trash-collectors save the recyclable waste and the extra
waste is delivered to the main dumping sit or we can say that *main landfill site* then this extra
waste is burnt out at the landfill site.
The recycle-able waste is sold to scrap-dealers by the trash-collectors. In Lahore, there are many
facilities for these scrap-dealers that have done great business.
I would like to provide a waste management system with some ideas about how they can
strengthen their system. As we understand that the dumping sites are open to air and are a
significant risk to the residence of the surrounding residential areas, I think we should cover
those dumping sites that also cover trash collection bags and create more landfills.
