1 Course Objectives:
The purpose of this course is to equip the students with a broad spectrum of legal and judicial
systems in the fast globalizing world and give them brief knowledge about the various systems
of governance and to draw a comparison between them.
2 Prerequisites: Nil
3 Course Learning Outcomes:
The student will be able to -
1. Understand the Principles, objects and forms of Governance
2. Focus on the application of system of governance to various constitutions.
3. Analyse the various systems of Governance – Unitary, federal, Presidential &
Parliamentary.
4. Evaluate the system of Constitutional Governance and various legal systems.
Common law, civil law, socialist law, faith-based laws; salient features of all
these systems; major countries belonging to various systems; India as a common
law country; civil law belts in India; elements of socialist and religious laws in
Indian legal system
Meaning & theories of governance; federal & unitary systems; parliamentary &
presidential systems; monarchy, constitutional monarchy; theocracy & state
secularity; oligarchy & presidium system; examples, merits and demerits of each
of these forms in various parts of the world; mixture of various form of
governance in the Indian Constitution.
The course will be delivered through Lecture, using examples and case laws.
