PRAYER
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Lord, we offer You our class today. We pray that through Your Divine Guidance,
we would learn how to listen attentively to the inputs of our teacher. May we appreciate
his/her efforts in impairing his/her knowledge to us. May we participate actively in the
discussions and activities, so we could learn more while having fun. May we value each
other’s contributions as a building block towards harmony and peace. Grant that as we
interact with one another, we recognize the fact that all our learning activities should be
accomplished for Your greater glory. Grant that we recognize You in each of our classmates
and teachers. As we leave for home, we pray that you keep us safe from harm and illnesses.
And we would be able to apply correctly what we have learned from school.
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE
The subject teacher will check the attendance on their meeting day through the
DWCC Learning Management System (Moodle/Gsuit). The students who chose
online/blended learning are encouraged to be online.

B. DISCUSSION
OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:
Identify the subjects of inquiry and goals of Anthropology, Political Science, and
Sociology.
WHAT IS ANTHROPOLOGY?
Another key element that makes Anthropology holistic is its research time frame, which
ranges from the evolution of humans as a species to our current development. It also studies
humans from various ethnic groupings and geographic locations.
The science that studies human culture.
It is a discipline that deals with the origins and development of human societies and the
differences between them.
Holistic “science of man” a science of totality of existence.
The word Anthropology is derived from two Greek words: anthropos meaning “man” or
“human”; and logos, meaning “study”.
“The study of people – their origins, their development, and contemporary variations,
wherever and whenever they have been found on the face of the earth” (EMBER,
EMBER, AND PEREGRINE, 2010)
THE SPHERES OF ANTHROPOLOGY
The science of anthropology is divided into two major disciplines, physical anthropology and
cultural anthropology.
PHYSICAL ANTHROPOLOGY
PHYSICAL ANTHROPOLOGY is generally classified as a natural science or
sometimes called as biological anthropology, mainly concerns about how humans emerged
and evolved through time. This is under the study human paleontology.
the second concern of Physical Anthropology is how human beings differ biologically –
this is under the human variation
CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY
Concerned with the differences and similarities of various cultures and how they
correlate with each other from time to time.
ARCHAEOLOGY
ARCHAEOLOGY – is basically the study of the cultural heritage of the past through
examination of the physical remains and ruins of past cultures. It also involves the studies
regarding Ancient Civilizations. Anthropologists study cultures and civilizations even though
some of them are so ancient that they did not leave any writing about their cultural heritage.
ANTHROPOLOGICAL LINGUISTICS
ANTHROPOLOGICAL LINGUISTICS – It deals with the influences of language and
symbols to human culture. Without language, there could be no culture to speak since culture
can only be transmitted through symbols of communication. Hence, communication is an
essential tool for passing culture from generation to generation.
ETHNOLOGY
ETHNOLOGY – Is the study of recent or present cultures.
Try to explain difference of cultures before and the recent through vigorous research.
WHAT IS SOCIOLOGY?
SOCIOLOGY
Socius – group/partners
The actions of animals are based mainly on instinct. Human behaviour, by contrast, seems to
be shaped and conditioned by interactions among persons and groups.

Sociology therefore includes the study of customs, traditions, patterns of historical
development, and institutions that have emerged within specific societies.

be shaped and conditioned by interactions among persons and groups.
Whatever the unit, a study seeks to describe and explain the behaviour of people within
the group on the basis of their distinctive customs and their interactions.
Sociology looks at how groups of people are similar and how they differ from each
other.
In order to fully understand society, a perspective called the Sociological Imagination,
an idea of C. Wright Mills in “The Promise,” should be used. According to Mills (1959),
“the sociological imagination enables us to grasp the connection between “history and
biography within society.”
The actions of animals are based mainly on instinct. Human behaviour, by contrast, seems to

biography is the personal experience of individuals.
Both can influence one another. History or the events happening can influence the
biography or personal experiences and vice versa. This just means that C. Wright Mills
gave a perspective that would explain human behavior without rigorous research and tests.
With Sociological Imagination, one can explain individual and societal phenomena.
