In the topic "Technology in the Educational Industry," I have generally learned about education and
modern education, the advantages and disadvantages of technology in education, ERP systems and non-
ERP tools, and the major ERP modules for the educational industry. I chose this topic to discuss because
it was the most interesting module to read and it was the one that truly spoke out to me, considering
our circumstances for the year of 2020 where everything, especially school, is now online.

Firstly, I never knew about the term of modern education before. I thought the integration of technology
in schools was just part of our progress as a society and that at the end of the day, it is still called
"education." Education is what it is --- the process of imparting and acquiring knowledge, developing the
power of reasoning and judgement, and preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life and as
for a profession. Modern education is still education, but it uses the aid of modern technology. Now, I am
glad to know that the presence of technology in this industry has its own name/term and that I now
know the difference between the two.

Then, I learned that there are more private schools in the Philippines than state schools and that our
quality of primary educations ranks 66th amongst 137 countries. The education sector in the Philippines
is, thus, promising.

Next, I learned about the advantages and disadvantages of technology in education. Technology
prepares students for technologically-advanced industries when we finally graduate and start working,
provides a dynamic learning and teaching environment, provides us with access to information from
anywhere in the world, creates a new era of learning, supports distance learning, etc. I was surprised to
know that technology diminishes our social skills because even though we are far away from each other,
we still communicate with tons of people from our devices. I suppose it makes us used to doing
everything online that our brains act differently when we face other people in real life. Although, I am
not fazed by the fact that we can easily get distracted and be prone to bullying because they have
already been prevalent for years. It makes me curious for advances and protections that can be
developed someday to secure everyone online.

Also, I learned about different ERP systems and non-ERP tools. Before, I only knew of Microsoft 365 and
Canvas but it is nice to learn more about other options that exist such as Sage Intacct, SAP Business All-
in-One, Ellucian, ERPAG, McGraw-Hill Connect, LanSchool, Nearpod, and ExamSoft. Lastly, I learned
about the major ERP modules for the industry namely, Admission management, Attendance
management, Alumni management, Curriculum management, Faculty management, Academic analytics,
Student portal, and Material supply management.

In summary of my learnings, I now know the different technological aids that we have available for the
progression of our education system. We are fortunate to have access to these tools which makes our
journey easier and better. Though there may be shortcomings, we cannot deny that technology has
boosted our means of growth and knowing. I look forward to what comes next.
